thanks for the tips ! will do so if i do buy the bike, however not sure of the price yet.

im not good with bike electrics though, what is a signal generator? i googled but could not really find pictures to tell, cos i may go hunting at scrapyards to get a cheaper one, and visual identification is best i think.

is it another name for the magneto coil or plug ignition coil?

i know the function of the spark ignition coil is to transform volts to a higher voltage value to fire the plugs, so does not sound similar to what you're saying... i think. and its not located in the engine right? usually mounted below the fuel tank (at least for my hornet 250)

and a magneto produces electrical power by a magnetic field - creating alternating high voltage pulses to power the bike, sounds similar to a signal generator you are talking about... i think..

is it this?

Picture of the pulse signal generator, its not same as the magneto coil or the ignitor coil. This actually trigger a pulse to the CDI to tell either piston 1&4 or 2&3 is at the TDC (top dead center) and your CDI will command your ignitor coil to fire the spark plug

sigh..doubt ill be getting that impulse now, something seems odd from the way Go Pa is handling the sale, i asked him to give me owner's number so i can contact him on buying the impulse personally, and he refused with a strange statement "i don't have the ability to give you his number."

huh?

in addition, he said the owner would only accept 2.4k, which i think is steep, because im not sure how much i have to pay to restore the bike, i estimate near 700 for tyres batteries oil, filters, coolant, plugs, chain sprocket, fork seals and oil (i noticed one was leaking), and etc, but this is not inclusive of the fix of the electrical problem..which he says is probably another 200 for the part.

i dont know if it can even run, i cant even hear the engine to judge its condition.

i offered at the most 2k, which i think is a good price for a bike - that has been left unattended for more than a year, that cannot be started.

But which he said he doubted the owner would settle for such a price ,but how does he know that??.

also, he then told me that if i bought it, he would not have time to work on it for me, that i have to tow it to another shop, now THAT makes me even more worried, what if he knows that its not a simple problem and wants to avoid responsibility? is the bike is instead a ticking time bomb, contrary his claims that its is an easy fix?

this is just the "feeling" i get from him, it may not be true, but it seems fishy to me.

sigh maybe its a super 4 for me..

Hey fellas! Its been a long while since I poked my nose in here.

Looks like we have a lot of new owners of the impulse. I'd say lets meet up for dinner or just a drink. I'm sure there would be plenty to talk about.

Ill post up more details for consideration of location/date/time.

Ive a story to tell about the rectifier on my impulse - got it repaired for free. :cheeky:

Any owners here selling yr impulse??? me wanna get this bike after reading all e reviews..... going to get my

2a in may....

Heya.. Hope you got your 2A already. Have you gotten yourself a bike yet?

how is the maintenance of the impulse 400? easy to get parts? i understand the last model came out in 2001.

The last may have been a 2001 model but that doesnt mean Sg have them. The youngest impulse ive seen on the road is a FQ plate. That would be a 1997 model (red and black paint job). However, the bike is reliable nonetheless. Try to read the past 4-5 pages and you will see how easy a fellow impulse rider managed to DIY his bike.

hmmm abit scary though since im still a noob in bikes. it be reassuring to know if workshops still provide maintenance support for the impulse :)

Yeah of course. Suzuki parts are still avail. Can still choose between original and alternative brands.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

I have a Impulse 400 right side engine cover (small one) for sale at $20. In good condition, good for replacement if your is scratch or damage due to skid or fall.

Easy to replace just unscrew and bolt on the cover will do.

Just done the valve clearance and carburetor servicing by S750WP yesterday and I'm very satisfied with his workmanship.

I asked for similar services from Planet Motor before, but Ah Chong quite reluctant to service my old bike, as he worried for the problem to replace parts. Guan Hoe at autobay works until 5pm and the location is so remote.

So I decided to give it a try with S750WP.

The services started at his carpark from 10am until 8pm.

The previous owner seemed to never service the carburetors before, the nuts were damn tight and couldn't be unscrewed by all normal screwdrivers.

Nonetheless S750WP took extra miles by taking it to the bikeshop and managed to open the carburetors successfully.

The carburetor bowls which contained a lot of metallic rusty sediment were then fully cleaned with carburetor cleaner.

The float needles which sometimes choke the carburetors with petrol were all replaced too.

The clearance of 16 valves are checked and tuned according to the manufacturer's recommendation.

The problematic carburetor screws were all replaced with new one too.

He even explained to me the functions of various mechanical parts in carburetors and valves, and demonstrated to me how to maintain them myself.

At the end of day he charged much lesser for the services compared to bikeshops, for e.g. check with the Uxxxxx Motor valve service charge in the advertiser board.

I strongly recommend the impulse owners to pm S750WP for servicing the carburetors and valves.

His knowledge and skill for suzuki impulse will make the riders more confident on the road.
