good idea, the impulse is a pretty cheap buy for me actually.

much more affordable than a S4. more money to spend on fixing and customising.

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

10w40 oil on the impulse degrades pretty fast.

i have managed about 2000 km before it has degraded and gearshift is clunky.

using chex 10w50 now to find out if it will last longer.

was hoping to stretch the 10w40 to about 3500 or 5000 km originally.

paid a visit to HLC to order my stainless steel brake hose since the current rubber ones are on their way out.

also paid a visit to Guan Hoe over there for a peek. Auntie and uncle there very friendly. told me the bike previous owner was byte77 and before him was another indian.

also told me the swingarm on the bike has been replaced before to the cost of about 1000 SGD. hmmm....

also left my details with them so if any impulse owners go to them, they can contact me so i can gather all the riders. they mention there is about 5 that goes to them for servicing. *crosses finger*

and before i left, spotted a Suzuki Katana there which is freaking rare and old school, although condition is kinda bad.

I am using 10w40 Mobil 1 fully syn EO from MXtrading on my current ride, engine and clutch feels smooth after 4000km, I pushed it till 5000km then change. Price is reasonable $18 per quart. Denso iridium spark plug cost $11ea, $3 more vs normal plug.

Guan Hoe remember every bike they service, they called me once to asked me the contact of the new owner, whom forget to leave his contact number after leaving the bike there for service.

just installed the stainless steel brake hose.

very good braking feel now. previously was slightly spongy because the hose are old already. changed to stainless steel and i can feel the difference immediately. no slack from hose, very firm braking.

money well spent. looks good too.

got my seat rewrapped today and added foam. previous owner shaved the foam because he was too tall?

anyway, added the foam back, rewrapped with new leather cover and added a leather strap so it resembles the original seat.

looks good and feels even better sitting on it now. yeah.

piece by piece the restoration is almost done.

Left paint job, grab rails and the problematic carbs only.

Actually the seat was added with thicker foam for the comfort of pillion.

Few days before it was sold, the seat was rewrapped with extra foam removed.

I FINALLY FOUND ANOTHER IMPULSE ON THE ROAD!!!!!!

FINALLY!!!! FINALLY!!!!!! BUT I LOST THE BIKE BEFORE I COULD CATCH UP WITH IT...............sigh....

Also a black bike and FP Plate. damn it. if you see me say hi leh.

forgot to mention, the 1 thing i really really love about the Impulse is it's storage space. Considering a bike of its class and size, it packs alot of storage space. Let's see....I can fit a full set of rain coat and paperwork documents, bungee cord under the rear seat panel.

I can fit a toolbag (consisting of spanners, hex keys, screwdrivers and sparkplug extractor) and my rain cover under the rider's seat compartment. And i can still squeeze in a pair of gloves if i really really want to.

no box cause i want the bike to look good and not ah pek.

Simply fantastic. i compared to a s4 and yeah, the difference is quite big.

I also met a vintage Kawasaki Zephyr 750 rider not too long ago. he told me his brother used to ride the impulse as well back then. it was a good bike and he said it was an S4 killer, which I doubt to an extent.

The potential is there but with S4's vtec.........hard fight. Though it would be cool to really extract the performance from the Impulse, it's a revver. The other day I decided to let loose some rpms and beyond 6k, the bike literally changes attitude. the exhaust, the acceleration. typical inline 4 behaviour. woo!

Hey guys,

Been awhile since i've logged in.

Its been almost 5yrs since we got an Impulse and its still its running strong & most importantly reliable... My wife uses it to commute to work and it has been a good workhorse with decent mileage(25-27km/L) locally and affordable running costs all these while. Once in awhile, i ride it up north with the big boys, capable enough to keep up with a strain. When it comes to canyon carving, its nimble and flickable.

We have an FP Black Impulse with gold rims, wonder if its us if u saw her... 8)

it could be.

the other impulse i saw are either scheduled for scrapped or cannot locate, like the one at Army Market and the one near Toh Guan.

let's meet up if you're free. I'm dying to meet another impulse.

serviced the impulse. 5k km since taking over in March.

This time i'm trying Rock Oil 15w50.

Apparently the Impulse prefers 50 weight rather than 40. so hopefully Rock Oil is promising. not cheap though, 26 bucks per litre.

Call Ah Ann 96256549, motorcycle scrap yard ownner

Hey SW750WP sorry to check this thread again after 2 long month. thanks can you help chnge the tank on this bike. I can pay you for your cost price and your margin for your efforts. I have another 1 year left for this bike but I am not comfortable to let it go as it has been such a great bike for me. I had got the tank repaired for a minor pin hole and it lasted another 2 month. BUt now minor leaks have appeared and I feel it is good to change the tank.

If anyone likes and admires this bike I am willing to let it go for a reasonable price, but you got to replace the tank for it to turn into a dream bike again. Please contact me Arun: 96169781 if any takers.

Cheers

hmmmm, sounds like an early model edition?

I've changed the sprockets and chain on the Impulse as it is wearing out, and i can hear the clak clak clak sound when clutching in.

After changing it from the 45 teeth to the original stock 48, the bike feels much better and "tighter". pickup is slightly increased due to the lower gear ratio.

previous sprocket was 45 mainly for more top speed, but since i don't go at high speeds often, i dont mind moving it back to 48 for more acceleration.

feels good. now whats left is the paintjob and changing the springs on rear suspension as they are too soft from old age.

Try caltex 95. Will give u another +1km/l.

fuel consumption went up.

from 24km/l it dropped to 23km/l.

expected with the increase in rear sprocket teeth back to 48. in exchange for the poorer fuel consumption, i get slightly better acceleration throughout the rev range.

went down to ah ahn to check out what they got.

pretty damn well stocked. all sorts of bike parts. but its very dirty, which is expected.

got myself the chrome air cleaner cover, since 1 of mine broke off. got the original squarish signal lights and the mainstand.

might be going to bike fabricator to get him to fix the mainstand since it doesnt fit even though its from an impulse as well......weird.

bike now returns 22km/l. drop of 2km/l since moving to the 48 tooth rear sprockets. mid range acceleration is much better. bottom end not much.

hit 140kph the other day on PIE. was never able to do it easily when i was on 45 tooth rear sprocket. with 48, it was much easier. hmmm.
