i used to wear Oxford cotton/cloth type balaclava.

untill recently, i got my self a silk one (Rjays).

i supposed the brands doesn't matter much, it contributes to the price!

anyway, wat i observe from my usage from the cotton.

it sits onto my head & face nicely, tends to absorb more sweat but hotter.

after a period of usage (ard 6mth of daily usage), it become loose.

result: gotta spend $$ on the 2nd one.

so on the silk one (3rd one), tighter than the cotton type.

it still absorb most of the sweat, yet cooling.

but the thing i dislike, it doesn't cover part or even any part of my neck.

so if any of u guys happen to own a silk balaclava & it covers part of most of yr neck, pls let mi koe.

other than allowing you to wear and remove your helmet with ease, are there any other benefits of wearing a balaclava? other than the obvious, where you can pretend to be a ninja... :D

if you need to cover your neck, why not buy a scarf? tuck it into your jacket when you want to go fast, and if you want to pretend to be masked rider, maybe you can leave the ends of the scarf dangling out.

Er... it keeps your helmet from stinking...

A balaclava covers your chin area. That is very important because our chin will perspire and the perspiration gets onto the helmet strap... And thereafter, the funky smell kicks in...

So, that's the benefit that makes me wanna wear a balaclava everyday. It's not as hot and uncomfortable as you think. It's very comfy actually! :thumb:

It can prevent u from breathing too much dust & keep ur helmet interior clean.

1st fews use u may feel uncomfort & breathless but after sometime u'll get use to it.

It'll be best to get those silk/thin cloth, cotton too thick & hot for me.

wat u thinking abt?!!!

 sorry, tooo many happy hours spent there

balas are great, i use them when touring.

keeps the helmet dry and tightens the feel in the helmet and makes it just abit quieter when cruising above 180.

Komine & HJC

Motorworld selling @ $25 & $18 respectively if Im not wrong.

Am using the Komine GP balaclava mask when with my FF, which covers the neck area nicely.

Am using a CoolMax balaclava I bought from Motorworld for $25. It's made from dri-fit material so its thin, cooling and doesnt stretch out of shape.

It also covers the neck area.

Balaclavas are great because they:

1) keep your helmet from smelling bad. It's not your perspiration that causes the stink but the DEAD SKIN CELLS that rub off the cheek pads when you put on and take off your helmet. Even constant washing, drying, and sunning of your cushions wont get rid of the smell because the dead skin cells are too deeply seated below the fabric and inside the cushion. It is a lot easier to wash and dry a thin balaclava than thick cheek pad cushions.

Same goes for the helmet chin strap.

2) cut down the inhalation of some dust particles in the air. The smaller particles may still get through but some protection is still better than none at all.

3) cut down on particles coming in contact with your face and ruining your complexion. :cheeky:
