This model is highly underrated here in Singapore. As well treated wrongly by the dealership.

But treated very dearly by their owners once they got their hands on one

Anyway, my buddy was thinking of letting go of his K5 DL650. Well taken care of by him and partly by me cos I'm the sub-rider. Sad to see him let go but wife's pregnant n he's gotta switch to 4 wheels at the moment. He is looking at ard 11k. Drop me a pm if interested.

er mr.tay, why does that thread make the vstrom 'rock'... ? :cheeky:

sori, the link doesn't work well.

here is the story:

My primary ride is a 05 GL1800 Honda with a side of VMAX for adrenalin. I am very pleased with my choices.

About 3 months ago a friend that happens to own a 1000 Vstrom was talking about another trip into that was going to include . This got my attention as I have wanted to make this ride for over 40 years and due to one thing or another have been unable to. At this point time is precious and if I am to go it has to be very soon. We talked about my Wing and I said that I didn’t think that was anyplace I wanted to take it and the Vmax was just out of the question. So we began to talk about possibly buying a bike and outfitting it for this trip.

Since he has a Vstrom, he naturally suggested that I might consider one of them but he suggested only a 650 as it is very light and nimble. I have always been a member of the big is better club and really didn’t think much of little 650.

Now I have only owned my Wee Strom for a couple of months and have been working on it, outfitting it for the trip to . I have ridden it some and it seemed to have good power and was really easy to ride but it was still just a little 650.

Last weekend I rendezvoused with a group of friends, most of them riding Goldwings to ride to and the Talamina trail. (about 250 miles) I decided that this would be an excellent chance to try out the little 650 and find out just how bad it was going to hurt me riding at highway speeds and how it was going to react to the curves and switchbacks of Talamina.

After we entered the Talamina trail we stopped at a scenic overlook and the Ride Captain ask if anyone wanted to go ahead and ride a little more spirited ride and several of the Wings pulled out. The Ride Captain came over and ask me if I was going and if I was I had better get started. My opportunity to kick the Wee and really see what it was made out of had just happened. As I left the parking lot, I understand that eyebrows lifted because the little 650 came to life, growled in a most serious manner and off we went.

All of a sudden it became apparent to me that the little 650 didn’t realize it was a little 650 and had the heart of a lion. I began to blow thru curves faster than I ever dreamed that I could. I also noticed that I was closing on my younger brother on his Wing. I went blasting by him and started going after the lead wing. I realized that I not only could take the curves at a much faster speed than they could but I literally could out accelerate them at 80 and 90 MPH. I got to thinking, “maybe I’m not so old after all”. Then I got to thinking about my younger brother on his Wing and how he seemed to be riding at the peak of his ability and on the edge and maybe I should slow down. About that time I realized that he wasn’t behind me so I turned around and took off back in his direction and sure enough, 2 curves back, there he was in the ditch. He said that he just made a mistake and that was all it took. Well, he went to the hospital and his bike went back home on a trailer. He wasn’t hurt too bad (no broken bones) but if you try jumping on the ground at about 75 MPH, it is going to hurt for a while. I managed to ride his bike another 20 miles to the Lodge where we were staying and then went on to the emergency room with him.

One of my friends (a real rider) went after the Wee that was left out on the road. Later we talked about how the bike performed and I made the statement that it would only run about 115 and he said that he could testify that it will indicate more than that at top end.

The next day we headed home and when I got into my garage I walked around the little bike and made this assessment. I was told that the bike did nothing great but did everything well. My thoughts are that the bike will do more than my talent will ask for and more. I was also comfortable over the entire ride with no discomfort. I had cut the seat down to the pan and placed a ¾ inch piece of Gel on the pan and pulled the cover back over it. It worked perfectly. As far as performance WOW. This bike thinks it is a super bike the way it runs and will go around corners like it is on rails. OK, it is no longer referred to as little 650 and I have a feeling that this is a romance that has just began.

With just a little more modifications it will be ready to go to . Now I must get myself in a little better shape to make the trip.
