Hi bro,

thanks for your detailed reply. Appreciate that.

For the Ram Mount, is it compatible with the Nuvi205?

Cos I am most likely going to get this model since it is the most affordable.

I asked a salesman about this 205, and he said the battery last 2-3 hours only.

So, I guess i got to plug it into my bike's battery? Is it a simple DIY job to fit in a power socket for the 205?

Lastly, the Ram Mount, where can I get it in Sg? Saw the price online, about $50 I guess.

Hi Bro,

Regarding Nuvi 205w. I am using now.

Ya. The battery life is short. The most at 2-3 hrs with 80% backlight.

I find the Nuvi screen is still sunlight readable backlight set at 80%, even under strong sunlight. The touchscreen is also ' glove' friendly. I operate it with gloves on.

For the ram mount, i got mine installed at jkcommercial. Ram mount is solid stuff.

follow the link http://www.jkcommercial.com.sg/index-2.html at about $150. Include base plus knob lock. Lazy to go thru the hassle of ordering online.

So far, i find the Nuvi 205w is realli value for money, except a short battery life.

Anyone knows where can install weatherproof cigarette lighter outlet with on/off switch? Price also.

Thanks.

Hi,

ya, the 205/w is definitely value for money.

But since getting drenched in a downpour and getting my handphone soaked in the process, I am having 2 thoughts of using the 205 as it is not waterproof.

But if I am able to put a power socket somewhere on my bike to power the GPS, will reconsider again.

Bcos at 2-3 hours with no power source, it is not feasible for me to bring it for any trips north.

Check this RAM mount together with the RAM Aqua box (waterproof)

I am actually planning to get this, together with a Garmin GPS that has bluetooth (ie not the 205) as well as a set of motorcycle-friendly cables to power it. IMHO a cheaper option than the motorcycle dedicated GPS like the Zumo; it can give you directions via bluetooth and can easily migrate to the car when necessary.

Hi guys,

I got a question to ask regarding the GPS.

Where do i buy a cable to connect the bike battery to power the GPS?

The GPS is powered via a USB port. I suppose the cable comes with a converter and a fuse?

Basically am looking for a quick 'plug and play' cable. Just fix it and and use, no need for further DIY.

Please advise.

Thanks!

Very famous in Singapore. Very reliable too. I used the map in Sg and Malaysia. As for thailand, it covers the southern only. Northern part still building in progress.

If your bike has a standard power socket, just get a power plug with USB port, plenty at SLS or Mustafa. It will automatically step down from 12v to 5v, and the power is regulated. Fuse is not necessary as I have been running mine for years without damaging my GPS.

There a few options here.

Best is to use the genuine garmin charging cable which comes standard with every nuvi. What happen to yours ?

Hack a generic usb cable so to prevent it from going into date mode

http://pinouts.ru/GPS/garmin_nuvi_power_pinout.shtml

If you use a generic usb cable, it will still charge your nuvi but it will automatically go into data mode ie, you can't use it for navigation. But there is a way to trick the gps

Went to sitex...surveying for GPS...Meant for Motorbikes is really way beyond my budget...

Looking for $300 and below...

Was recommended by the garmin salesmen to get the Nuvi 205...the cheapest somemore...

he told me that its the simplest of all garmin...as he believe for a rider u dont need a big screen and that junction view thingy...hmm...

I was tempted by the Holux smile 62...The graphic the multimedia thingy...and the large screen...

Still undecided...cause im not sure whether i can mount that holux on my bike...anyone can share pic of ur GPS mounting on ur bikes and the damage...really appreciated....

U can get actually the 205 and get the mounting and casing(for waterproofing) separately... works fine.

how much is garmin nuvi 500?

i just check from the papers, its $469 from navicom(sitex).

A man only needs so much money, the rest is just showing off

Even the 205W with zip-lock can bring u all the way to Phuket in torrential rain, dont worry.

Anyway, how does the Marbella compare to Garmin? I've PMed the fella.. asking if there is any waterproofed ones, yet to get a reply. The Marbella seems to have a more interactive screen.
