Would you? Nea descrapping old bikes before 2003

By now, many of us must have read of this news. Myself am perplex by this news. I have a 1998 Honda CB750 . I feel many people would be scratching their heads. Some would have spent dollars to beautify, repair, service and etc and yet suddenly NEA is suggesting $2000 + 1500 IF we decide to scrap our bike now. but if decide to scrap after renewing our 10 years coe, then scrapping before 2023, we would get $2000.

 

i think different owners would decide differently according to what they have done to their bikes but NEA reason/s about our old bikes giving more CO2 doesnt sound really incredible.

 

if so, how is it the bikes can pass our yearly stringent exhaust test? is there a better way to do it?

 

when will all this excuses be over? in 15 to 20 years time when coe price again increase exhorbitantly and many old bikes around , what will the government tell us next?

 

for now, i am still pondering if i should scrap my bike soon or renew my bike coe.hmmmm

doing that will forgo $1500 given. it all depends on how owners feel of their bikes. i recently saw a cb 750 owner who gave his bike for free (only kopi money)(cant remember when his coe expires).if his coe ends like june 2018 (which i notice many cbs are ) probably, he would be a lucky fellow

I think it's fair to tell us, we cannot ride the bike on the road. The road belongs to the country belongs to the public, so if they say cannot use, then I LLST just follow.

 

But what I cannot accept is them telling us what to do with our property. We are not even allowed to empty the gas tank, clean the bike, remove all the oil and fluids and store it in our own house as a keepsake. Instead we have no choice but to destroy or export the bike out of the country, cos this is how deregistration must be handled here. Some of these bikes got sentimental value if not historical value that can be handed to the next generation to appreciate, but no, ah gong say cannot.

Our bike is never ours, that why got COE. Same for cars & house.

 

Bike got vintage scheme, but doubt I would want to go into that direction though.

It's not the local motorcycle causing the pollution but the daily land travellers of 400,000 (estimate 10% is taking by motorbike approximate 40K of bikes). Those are not regulated and check on their exhaust system (sometimes too loud for comfort) and poor emission. Making matter worst, the foreign buses and lorries/trunk that driving on Singapore roads are also main culprit for air pollution. If government willing to impose emission control on local bike to confine to Euro4 standard, why double standard allowing so many foreign vehicles into local roads? Let not blame the local bikes that goes through regular LTA check during road tax renewal.

Sad news, makes me feel the NEA is targeting locals. We are here by birth, not by choice.

Here in Singapore, it is already regulation that we have to have our vehicles inspected annually.

And if I understand correctly (correct me if I am wrong), in Malaysia, there is no such inspection (for private vehicles).

 

I think LTA (or NEA) should implement vehicle inspection for foreigners working in Singapore and using their foreign registered vehicles. Not just to reduce the number of CO2 pollutive vehicles but those with really loud exhaust too. Those commercial vehicles (buses & lorries) that comes in regularly should also go thru' inspection.

 

If the vehicle pass our local inspection, issue them a vehicle permit (valid for 1 or 2 years) or don't flag the autopass. If fail, the person can still come in to work but use public transport.

A FEW YEARS ago in KL, they wanted to implement the restricted zone for entering KL, it was rejected by the people. recently , Malaysia goverment wanted to implement cars after 15 years must go inspection but also rejected by its people according to some relatives who stay there.

years back in some motorcycle magazine, it was stated that London wanted to implement by the restricted zone and the people refused . now not too sure. I went london 2 years ago, didnt see such implementation.

MY BAD, i just googled. London now has this enter city zone implemented in 2003. i guess they must have learned from singapore

i wonder what drastic actions they are going to implement after that .

 

jus a joke, some officals might be driving his open top car and be destroyed by the 2T smell , hence these actions
