Hi guys,

bought my bike XJR 400 about 6 months ago. good ride but have this weird problem, the engine will suddenly cut-off while riding (had to clutch-in, toggle the emergency switch and then either press start button or throw clutch & engine restart OK) this happened a couple of times but no apparent pattern. anyone ever encounter this? also need to replace my clutch housing, any lobang where to do this without getting chopped?

Thanks in advance, guys!

the ubi xjr initially quoted at $1800 online. I went to the shop, the boss said $2200 after painting, cleaning, servicing etc. And he promised to call me once it's done. then i saw $2800 online, and he never call.

Then i saw $850 online.

yesterday i went to the shop again, and the bike was sold at $2800.

the moral of the story:don't trust a businessman and online information.

if this happen in a rainy day, my guess is that water leaks into the start switch housing and coz the circuit connect/disconnect.

try toggle the start switch when it happens again or bypass the start switch.

Agree. very likely to be a electrical problem. You can ask the bike shop to check for exposed cable due to abrasion or corroded connectors etc. My XJR400 runs perfectly smooth even in the heaviest downpour.

I believe a careful responsible owner who really put his heart and soul in keep his beloved machine in tip top condition can never part with his bike at such trash price. So be aware of those so called killer deal - a few hundred bucks for a class 2A bike. Most likely the bike has been abused and is put on quick sale for there is too much repair to be done. An owner who have no emotional attachment to his machine will not bother to maintain it well. That is my theory.

XJR is an awesome bike. very linear power delivery. it loses to CB400 at low rev, but once rpm reaches 4500 and above, it is a different beast. engine sounds noisier than CB400 at idle due to the transmission chain inside - typical XJR sound, nothing wrong with it. Irresistible classic retro look. The engine is very reliable. maintenance is the lowest among all big bikes, frugal amount of EO and air cool. FC ard 22-23km/L for me - 30% city, 70% highway @ 100km.

upon collecting your bike, wash and balance the carb; check valve clearance if possible. you will then enjoy the silky smooth ride for years to come.

Hi bros, I just bought a 2006 XJR 400 with 38k mileage. Bike looks clean but oil cooler has been removed. Should i get it back on the bike? And what are the wear and tear components to look out for? Thanks!

I'm a smoker, by that i mean two stroker, someday I'd like to burn clean, but for now that power band is my nicotine.

Oil cooler removed??!!

This bike is running on Oil and air cooling, how does the engin work normally without oil cooling system. You'd better have a mechanic installing it back and checking it before you ride it away.

Collins already gave many suggestions in previous post, beside that check the gasket seal, steer cone bearing. If u get spare money to spend, replace new spark plug, air filter, engine oil and oil filter
