hi guys,

i call up Seng Kwang to ask for the price of engine guard, they asked for $220, some more not the original design.

Should i get the original yamaha engine guard? Anyone bought the original guard? how long you got to wait after ordering and how much will that be?

Thanks

Lucky my side not so bad....alot of big bikes and well, my block alot of govt sector employees leh...keke :D

But I can understand that pain.....shit man. Guess pple envy our bike lor...so unique and it has its good points like the seat material veri good leh, comfortable and non-slip...nv did have a backside-ache problem on long distance trip (so far fartherest wif XJR I went is Sepang).....simply love it.

I am proud to say, the only thing that lose out to Super 4 is the engine of XJR has no Vtec. If given vtec-similar technology, XJR will definitely be the better choice of most 2A nake-bike riders.

This Sat i will be going to Seng Kwang to fix the rear suspension guard ($60) and check out on the engine guard. Will decide after seeing it. they said it is make of stainless steel.

Is the original yamaha engine guard also stainless steel, or better material?

Hey Chaicka,

Gotta ask you something, any idea that I can do the installation right after

I purchase the cheetah alarm from MotorX? I am heading down this

saturday to make the purchase of the alarm... gotta protect my "wife".

Btw, about the K&N oil filter, does MotorX have it in stock? Feel like getting

one as well. Thanks for your help. :D

Yes, installer should be around but dun come too late...

As for the K&N oil filter, currently nope...still some issue to iron out wif the distributor. Maybe I may go for a different source to get it...

Wanting to switch to fully syn after this. I have clocked 2500km

Changing on 3000km. Thanks! :D

hihi,

i have installed engine guard and rear suspension guard at Seng Kwang liao. They did a nice job.

:cheer: :cheer:

The engine guard is made of stainless steel, unlike Y's gear engine guard which is made of chromel steel. If we cause a dent or scratch the chromel steel, it may start to rust, but not for stainless steel.

Seng Kwang's design provide better protection. Couldn't get a discount on the engine guard. But the boss charge me 10 bucks less for the rear suspension guard. Make no differences to me what he charge less, as long as less. :p

Take some pics of your engine guard and post here leh.

Let us see see and compare. Might want to get one also.

If nice, can consider buying it.

Cheers! :D

So far I have tried these brands:

Motul, Elf, RockOil, Fuchs Silkolene

And have tried these voscocity:

20W50 (run in), 10W40, 10W50, 15W50

Personally, I feel that 15W50 is more suitable for our XJR, despite the fact that the manual recommend 10W40. 10W40 really not suitable for our climate. While 10W50 gives u good speeding feel with high response, it is too lean and somehow, feel it's rougher and not sufficient protection. 15W50 is what I like but it is dependent on brand too. Motul's 300V 15W50 I hate...it's somehow thicker than other brand's 15W50, and the mileage suxs...at 500-700km, I feel the oil becoming too dirty, response sluggished, and at abt 800km I cannot stand that feel and flush out the oil.

So far, Rock Oil seems ok, but mileage last a mere 1000km before I dun like it anymore (same lah, I like my bike in tip-top condition, so once oil feel too sluggish and dirty, I will flush).

I am currently using Fuchs Silkolene Comp 4T Racing 15W50. It's a semi-syn oil and so far so good. Still in evaluation stage. Next I will be trying out Fuchs Silkolene Pro 4 15W50.

I really have no conclusion on which oil I will personally recommend yet, coz I am not done with my testing yet. But if u want, u can give RockOil 15W50 a try. See if it works better for u than me coz of my riding style. I like it if not for the mileage it can last.

You sure that the Y's Gear engine guard is made of chrome steel? Hmmm...

Btw, how is the engine guard installed. Meaning where is it secured to? XJR does not have the two screw like the Super4. Maybe we can meet up at MotorX to take a look at it?

Hey Chaick,

Like to find out from you, my XJR had just installed the Cheetah alarm.

Problem is that, not sensitive leh, I shook my bike from left to right,

hand drum around the bike, the alarm still wont go off. Sensitivity tuned

max liao. Did you experience this kinda problem? Maybe you could help

me out on this.

Btw, kinda interested to get the tilt sensor you had installed, where can

I find them, and is it costly? Thanks! :D

Hmmm,

Not like what I had in mind, maybe can come up with design and ask

them to make, may look kinda better. But thanks for the photos Lim.

Really appreciate it.

Looks like long time nv wash bike liao, heh heh :D :D :D

Actually his engine guards are the same shape n design for all models....Only difference is the way and the position of the mount.....

In fact it looks exactly the same mount for my yamaha but i forked out $240 for mine somehow....

Talk about perfect price descrimination.

If you guys would like to contribute into an effort to source out better priced but equal quality engine guards, I would need the dimensions and better still, technical drawings of each engine guard since the design is the same.

I believe I can find cheaper alterative than Seng Kwang as I find them over-priced for such lousy job (note: My definition of lousy job is they use 1 design for all bikes, juz alter the dimension abit here and there, F... man, who dunno how to do).

I expect to pay >$200 for a really customized engine guard, not one that is same design but juz change dimension slightly to fit other models of bikes.

Damn...it looks so much like those engine guard on Super4.....yucks. I bought XJR in order to be different from most, then end up wif same engine guard.....not my style nor my idea of being special....

I think I confirm getting the original Yamaha engine guard liaoz...

Found these custom made crash protectors selling on ebay. Selling for GBP50, which is around S$150, for a set. These are for the Suzuki Bandit 600, but it seems they also got custom made. Are these type of crash protector really safe - will they protect the engine from scratch when peng?

They are no different from frame sliders, just purely made of metal only.

Hong Leong have frame sliders, cost abt $270+ (now no stock, need to order). I knew cos I just receive a reply mail from them.
