Just got myself an '03 XJR few weeks ago.used to ride a Version S but sold it off.since i tried both bike (no doubt not VTec) i still prefer a XJR.first of all,it's the shape tat i like.it's looks n actually bigger than S4,10kg more heavier, the sleek tail light tat looks exactly the same as the big bro,XJR1200,n definitely not tat common n u dun seems to see it in every corner.it's handling is so much better than S4 so need not worry bout vibration at higher speed.i'm using Pirelli Dragon tires and the cornering is superb.with 18 litres of petrol,i can hit 325km before reserve with average of 100km/h.engine sounds rougher than a S4 but the exhaust sytem sounds quiter than S4.as everyone knows,Honda's engine is the most quiet compare to other bikes but tat doesn't mean tat it's not as smooth.dun need coolant cos its oil cooled,2 litres of engine oil and definitely, the engine is not as hot as S4.i remember Super 4s engine r damn hot.just like BBQing your thigh.my bike is a year and 4 months old with 23000km on the mileage. In terms of insurance,it's 50% lesser premium than S4.tat's alot of differents.

As some of u bros are talking about the resale value, well, from the day u decided to buy a bike, tat's the day u r ready to lost $.so since u r losing $ regardless of wat bike u buy,why not lost it to something at least u know u like and not just because the trend now is going for S4.just my opinion.dun mean anything else.

i personally think tat riding a XJR,i dun have to worry so much abt the safety of my bike as in it's less common therefore,i doesn't attract the thief tat much.

So,S4 rider,no offence ok.Happy Riding! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

but thru the years 01-04 all the XJRs have only changed in terms of outlook? Any improvements done to the engine or other parts of the bike?

hi Blitzkrieg, great to hear another appreciator, but yur " 18L hitting reserve at 325km " sounds weird

xjr tank total including reserve is 21L, i hit reserve at around 370 region riding juz normally, which is supposedly after usage of 18L of petrol. so either way we dun seem to meet eye to eye in this aspect

You can prevent but you can never stop a determined thief. :sian:

according to someone i got some customised bike stuff from, its possible.

and i did tink so too myself after i realised that the less-commonly-seen tool to the weird looking nut can actually be found in commercial shops.

no one stupid to tell the whole world how to do it, but apparently seems likely to be possible

pple can steal an entire r1, wats more suspension, juz the amt of effort to be put in

Posted

thr is suspension protector 4 xjr.. lyks veri similar 2 s4..

might be the same, i duno.. coz i dun own one...

n its onli a deterent, not prevention..

u dun hav 2 tell the whole world

anione who has basic tool knowledge , juz by lookin at the parts, can decipher hw 2 get the s4 suspension in couple of min..

but 4 xjr, i haven seen the interior, so cant conclude..

this is wat i actually mean when i said 'doesn't attract thieves tat much'.less common bikes, means parts are harder to sell off.these f*#cking thieves just want $.they dun care wat bike is it.all they care is tat after stealing the stuff, they hv to get rid of it a.s.a.p to get the cash so the stuff they stole must be easy to get rid off.

hi furbykong,do u mind telling me where can i find an engine guard for xjr?and also,i tot of doing valve clearance for my bike,do u know roughly how much will it cost and after doing clareance any diff from the bike in terms of performance n engine?thanks in advance.

Posted

engine guard : my previous owner got it from ah boy, supposedly for a s4 though. HEARD there are specified ones for xjr, but i didnt bother looking for it.

need for valve clearance adjustment seems necessary and i dunnno why, cos the tappet or tick tick or watever sound seems to come on easily ard 20+k or so. and many says tats the sign to do something, cos its telling us tat the clearance is not right

did b4 and i PERSONALLY wun say it did affect performance, cos i did quite a few tasks one go. but common comments are that if we keep ignoring the signs we may need an overhaul ( affect engine ) at the end of the day.

after doing it it does gif me a peace of mind over the irritating sound

did mine for ard 140-200 region ( forgot ) at K & T at ubi, and its going to take at least a day. the bike needs to cool down, he nids to strip it, do the adjustment, put it back and wait for the gasket to dry.

hope tat helps

thanks alot bro.i think mine is due for gd servicing and valve clearance hv to be done liao.mileage is oredi 20+k.thanks alot.

If I remembered correctly, can order the engine guard from Motoworld.

The shop does the import from Japan. Cost around $200+

If not, give Chaicka a msg. He gotten a set imported from Japan before.

Find out from him where exactly can order, order from Hong Leong will rip you off, dun think they bother also.

OR.. look back the thread for clues. I can't trace back my conversation with Chaicka. BTW, I am looking forward to order one as well. Lost my money in Genting, have to wait till my pay day.

I love to ride my bicycle, I love to ride my bike.

How does the original engine guard for the XJR look like? Any pics? Izzit a 2pt guard or a 3 pt guard like wat is usually seen on the Super4? Saw some XJR with guards which are 2 segmented meaning protection from the front and bottom.

Instead of using 2 screws like the S4 guard, it uses 3 screw for the screwing point. In fact, from what I think, any guard that uses 3 screws and fits the frame can be call an engine guard specifically for xjr.

heard tt xjr parts hard to find coz rare in SG...is it true? n oso no value? but from wat i see,is a nice bike...hehe...

Hard to find, but still can find. XJR depreciate faster than S4, but both eventually will hit the rock bottom price (see who hit faster).
