I have found some XJR400R parts that I want from the Yamaha Japan website, things like sticker, metal logo, etc. Anybody want to order with me?

Part id, price, everything listed on their website, but probably with cost most to reached here, so need to check with Hong Leong before confirmation.

Hi guys i checked with u timing chain loose n clutch housing loose is this a common problem for old xjr 400?

Jus to confirm timing chain loose : when from idleing u throttle up to RPM 4-5 for a sec u hear rattling sound before its smooth n when u close throttle from RPM 4-5 in neutral gear also u hear a rattling sound for a sec b4 its smooth is tht timing chain loose which is creatin tht rattling sound for a sec?

Clutch housing loose wld be when u clutch in the engine sounds more pleasent n smooth when u clutch out the engine noisy n is irritating?

i got this clutch housing prob too on xj6..... but quite hard to hear the difference.... was told by yamaha mech that need to change clutch housing... anyone know roughly how much?? my engine oso got some tick tick tick sound when idle... timing chain???

how do you read the jap website???? :giddy:

I dun. First I look for bike section, then I find my bike model, then I choose the year of production, then I see a list of parts, then I use google or some other free website translator to translate, then I confirm it by looking at the picture, then I choose the part I want, then I see the price and part number.

Easy leh~~~:cheeky:

Yamaha XJR400 is a good bike but poor resale value. Super Four is a good bike with good resale value. That basically sums it all. If you only want a temp. 2A bike for 2-3 years, dun waste your money on XJR.

Yesterday just went to look at a 3 year old XJR400R. After examing the bike, can't help but began to wonder - do Yamaha uses less quality parts on their bikes? Here are my observations:

- the screws on the engine shows signs of rusting at the inner center - can't they use stainless steel screws?

- the words "XJR" on the side plates are peeling off at the edge - can't they just use the plastic imprint like the "Yamaha" on the tank?

- the colours of the control handles for switches doesn't seems to match with left and right side. Owner said it's original as it is.

- and the strangest part. went to website to heard the engine sound of xjr. I suspect their sound has been processed before - different from the usual sound I heard from CDC 2 years ago and the sound I heard yesterday - idling totally different. Also their sound is like start the bike and ram the throttle, then let the bike idle and ram again... I thought usually it should be start, idle then ram?

What do you guys think?

hi kaiq, below are my comments in blue

no idea about this, but i do haf some areas rusting too, as u said, its 3 yrs old.

i haf one side peeling off too, due to carelessness when mounting and dismounting, my guess is the peeling is on the right hand side? i suppose they cant pls every consumer, i myself find the wordings 3D and sleek, but too bad abt the peeling.

errrr. i dun get wat u mean by "control handles for switches"

this is indeed a flaw abt xjr which is pretty pissing, both the ignition and sound part. my mech cant seem to solve the ignition part by tuning or watever, so every ignition by me is accompanied by a fair amount of throttle. when its a hot start, and i mean very hot start when long dist riding, more throttle is needed. as for the sound part, it has to be 2 things. One is the loose clutch housing and one is the valve clearance crying for adjustment. both factors contribute to the weird sound we hear from xjr. to differentiate which is which, u need to identify whether the sound is a rough metal-metal knocking sound or a slight ticking sound. the former subsides when u clutch in (loose clutch housing) while the latter is more prominent when engine is cold (valve clearance) and slightly less noticeable when engine is hot, hope this helps a bit

as for less quality parts thing, no idea.... we have R1s ticking all the way from 98 model to 01 model, then we haf a big hoo haa in FJR on ticking yet again regarding inferior materials being used. but again ZX-10 has cases of cracked chasis and honda phantoms rusts from head to toe, A-plated yamaha RX series are still moving on the road after 10 over 20 years. so who uses what and how? i dun haf any special affinity towards any brand any way,

Oh, "control handles for switches" are the panels where the signal switch is (left) and the fuel on switch is (right), the one holding the mirrors one. Usually I expect smooth black surface, but what I saw is rough matt greyish surface. Kinda "or bit" leh...

Haha that sounds every bit like my XJR. And mine is not even 3 yrs old yet. But I am not bothered. See a few more XJRs n you will find all these to be pretty normal. But all these does not take anything away from the performanace of the bike. If outlook is that important, you can buy that bike n bring it back to HL n change whatever parts you want. I'm sure they have quite a bit of everything in stock.

I have not seen any XJRs with Yamaha RXZ headlights tho...since Honda's S4 are all taking Yammie headlites n putting it on their heads, why not Yammie's XJR4 herself?? Hmm..just a thought:confused: I dun do it cos it does not offer me dat much wind protection as I haff a Givi windshield. Not sure abt the brightness though.

hi skywalker, had exactly that RXZ sai tao when i took over the bike. it looks ok from certain angles and to certain pple, some find it ugly.

the brightness in my opinion is way too low for msia at nite, some suggest that changiing the bulb inside might help, but i didnt. in spore mayb ok since u haf street lamps all over. wind protection is practically non-existent
