the kids are great, thanx. time to leave them behind and make a trip.

tour on my previous gs is comfortable, but on drz, the vibration may b abit too much.

thanx for the input guys. safari is quite ex. ims cost much less.

will head down adventure on wheels and take a look at the safari tank.

any ims user here?

yup, best to head down and see see look look, touch here touch there, compare a bit, then make some decision.

any reviews you manage to find off these tanks on the internet or over at TT?

I am racing at PG with 15/39... with a top speed of 170 KMH down the back straight.

wow.... 170kmph... mine tank slaps as usual at 130kmph.. so with higher top speed, do you have to drop more gears b4 corners due to lack of torque? at turn 1, stock sprocks i use gear 3, do you have to drop to gear 2 to get power in?

oh ya... do i have get ohlins like you to get 170kmph or just change sprocks? still unable to sovle tank slap.................................................

i'm on slightly bigger rear spockets 43T.. got no prob getting it to 150kph..

no tank slapping too..

but turn 1 using gear 4.. only time that use gear 3 is BM turn..

you might wanna check your wheel bearings and tyre alignment for your tank slap issues..

I downshift to 4th coz I will hit 160 KMH just before Turn One. Turn 2 is taken on 5th, throttle wide open. Turn 3 on 4th, Turn 4 on 4th slowly feeding in the power till you exit with throttle wide open, Turn 5 on 4th but downshift to 3rd in mid-turn to get the drive up the hill. Turn 6 is on 5th gear, feeding in the throttle till wide open on the exit towards Turn 7, downshift to 4th on Turn 7, throttle wide open to for Turn 8 to get a good drive up the slope to BMW. Downshift to 3rd for BMW, out of BMW, upshift to 4th pull to 130 KMH then downshift to 3rd for Turn 12 (last corner) and the whole cycle repeats.

Tank slap can be caused by too hard front suspension, too soft rear suspension, worn front tyre, low tyre pressures, worn steering cone bearings and dunno what else.

it's sometimes luck when you are using 160 rear..

some ppl still have good clearance when using 160, some dun..

even they are on the same wheels and same agent/PI bikes..

i'm guessing it maybe the wheel spacers wear and tear, and how tight your previous mech had torqued your rear axle..

to play safe use 150 rear..

for now, there's nothing you can do..

wait for it to wear and it'll stop..

your tyre will not be affect much, it's the chain that's taking the damage..

yup thats what i found out too.

but safari cost a bomb as it is brought in by someone whom i had very very bad experience with..

now that got me thinking, maybe i can get a cheaper deal if i bring in myself! :cheeky:

I have fix a new rear tyre (160/70 R17)...

its 160/60 is it?:sian:

its like tat, the chain will hit the tire, then u will see the markings, i used rear 160/60 previously, now using back 150/60.

your tyre will not be affect much, it's the chain that's taking the damage..

yeap, the chain will be dirty due to the process
