As for the overflow tube, it just runs down to the ground. so that the overflowing coolant will just go straight down to the road.

the reservoir gets the overflowed coolant back to the radiator, so no loss of coolant over time but if it overflowed to the road, not only dangerous for other road users but also your coolant will decrease overtime....

Dear Super Motard Bikers, I bought a 2nd hand DRZ 400 SM at bukit meriah today and it cost me $11k + 2nd Party Insurance + Admin Fee = around $12k (COE till Oct 2010). It's a FBD plate and 1st owner is Ang Mo, seldom ride, mileage 2100Km only. Stock condition.

I know the price is a bit high compared to the normal 2nd hand DRZ price but I love this bike and bought it anyway.

Tomorrow the bike shop will complete all service for the bike (plate change, battery, EO and lube the chain etc.) I am going to pick up the bike and may I know what should I take note of when I ride it for the first time since I am a newbie upgrading from riding honda wave bike? (I guess I should be OK but cannot help asking because not confident:))

I will join SBF Super Motar Riding out (according to biting_point it's on every Friday Night) and learn from all of you guys.

I hope I can manage to ride this wild machine back home tomorrow... a bit nervous indeed...

nvm the price as long as it's not greater than the new price. u liked it, period. for first time handling, u need to tame the beast n show u r the master. be wary of the pickup, it can surge n next thing u know is ur front tyre is lifting. it's a powerful yet light bike so u will know how it will behave. like bro john said, it can lock ur rear tyres while downshift so take care of that. and yes, look at what is really chged as promised by the shop n make sure the promise is delivered.........to see the power of the bike, join the night ride out, it's an eye opener.....last but not least, enjoy ur ride n ride safe....congrats on ur newfound ride....

$2k is way too expensive!! I was only quoted $1.5k for bigbore kit with new valves, valve springs and gasket. including workmanship..

what racing gasket?? all gaskets are the same..

dun mind PM me which shop for reference?

you can use stock cams, it's just that you are not unleashing the potential of the big bore that's all.

was told that if you are touching engine internal modifications, it's best to do it one shot: cams, valves, valves springs, big bore..

as some cams may not be angled to your big bore, or valves are not sitted properly, valve springs are too hard/soft.. etc etc etc..

it's a lot to digest for engine mods..

when not paired properly, may cause premature failures to your stock parts like valves, cams, cam chain, etc..

john, he said he was quoted 2k after opening the bike la...open alrdy, how to move?

just to add abt engine mods..

with all the things you've done to the engine, it needs a bigger exhaust to breathe..

our street legal exhausts will not unleash the potential of the mods..

the only few exhausts to pair with a 440 BB or 470 BB is either a MRD or Yoshi TRC..

the header makes a difference..

TRC FS laaa.....mai tu liao......:cheeky:

i also dunno.. overhaul to me is a major issue.. best to check prices first before committing.. even price is good, but it's some ulu shop, i wun do it also..

but the price really 1 heaven and earth..

the $2k dunno got include labour and other replacement parts or not..

anyway, try using multi-quote?? :cheeky:

Wow. It looks expensive uh. I wonder what makes overhauling and how to prevent it.:cheeky:

Brother2 of DRZ, im an interested in DRZ and would like to get one. Would you guys recommend me wheter i should buy first hand or 2nd? And the price and the downpayment, shop. I would really appreciate if u guys could help me out.. Thanks alot..

For a start, go to the shop early to watch them change out the listed items..

as a new 2A rider, never throttle the bike hard until you learn how to tame it..

same goes for downshifting.. rear wheel locks easily for DRZ..

anyway, this friday outing is not in SG.. we'll be hitting Msia..

I suggest you join us next time as you are still not familiar with your new bike..

anyone interested in going for the ride out tmr, PM me..

from abt 7pm till late night..

Thanks biting_point and konspire....your suggestions are indeed valuable to newbies like me.

Today I managed to ride this beautiful bike safely back to my place and I really want to say: it's a totally different feeling when ride on it....

BTW, I will go to Cameron Highland in the coming Sep with this bike with couple of friends. We start from 5am and reach there at 4pm. I know DRZ400 is not suitable for long distance journey but what the heck, for the 600km trip I can get 3 to 4 times stopover and rest, then riding at 120km/h to 130km/h, it should be OK if I ride with a careful mind. In a short, plan well and ride at own pace is the key for such tour, right?

Of course my butt and ball may be NOT happy about this though, so should I wear some comfortable underwear?...

Anyone had go to Cameron Highland on a DRZ400 before? want to share your opinions?

I will keep reading all threads on the necessary preparation for the long trip at SBF and learn from you guys...

how long u plan to ride this bike?

how much u be willing t spend?

how much u willing to fork out to do the basic mods?

if u riding it for more than 3yrs, i recommend u getting a new bike.

if u wan a bike tat is done up nicely, can look up in bike garage sales to recce for those who selling their drz.

Hi guys, have a qn here. Hopefully the gurus and masters can help me out, just did a top overhaul on my Z. Is it normal to have a kinda rough sound coming from somewhere near the engine after being overhauled? If it is, roughly when will the sound be back to normal; After running in is done or something? Thanks alot..

that's a huge distance to cover..

you may wanna try to swap to a smaller rear spocket like 39T for cruising at 120kph.. stock gear ratio can cruise at 100kph with ease, but 120kh a bit stressful..

your bike should be able to take 200KMs without switching into reserve.. but your balls wouldnt be able to take it.. the standard stopovers are Machap, Pagoh or Ayer Keroh, Seremban, Rawang then Tapah to exit to Cameron Highlands..

You can try padded tights like those for long distance cycling..

Just return from Kulai, butt numbed from riding 80KM from home to Kulai..

there are many things you needa look out for, like emergencies.. spare clutch cable, EO plug, spark plug, tyre tube, tyre repair kit and tools..

may need to know how to fix a flat (tubeless), or change a tyre tube, else bring along the tube and pay for someone that knows how to fix it as Msia hard to find such big tubes..

Do a inspection for brake pads, sparkplug, all bolts and nuts prior to trip so that you dun need to bring spare brakepads, etc wear and tear items.. top up coolant or change it.. change your EO..

check tyre pressure and threads, never go touring with a almost botak tyre..!!

Put everything into a box if you planning to install one, or drop them into your friend's one.. try not to carry a backpack for long trips.. it'll add to the fatigue..!

No one plan to fail, but many fail to plan..

Plan ahead and have a nice trip..

Biting_Piont, thank you sooooooooooo much and I think I probably have to re-consider this long trip...

However tomorrow my friend and I will go to Melaka and he will ride his SP4 while I will ride DRZ-SM. I want to do a test water first and of course this 500KM ( round trip ) journey also need extra cautious and thorough preparation.

I will update my status when i am back from Melaka tomorrow evening, I probably will ride at 110km/h and stop for a rest every 100km and also make a petrol top up every 200km.

Thank you Biting_Point, I really appreciate your advice and I hope next time i can share my experience with other Zees....

Hi everyone, I noticed there is a electric fan underneath my oil tank which attach to the heat sink. I have never seen it work--rotating even when I can feel the heat come up from in between my thigh while I am riding on the high way.

Strange, the bike is so hot and the fan is not rotating (when I parked my DRZ, I changed to neutral gear and observe the fan). The water LED didn't light up though so I assume the coolant is OK.

I just upgraded to the 2A bike so not used to the heat that DRZ generates....

Enjoy your ride..

The furthest I attempted on my mine is Ayer Keroh, then back to Malacca..

Done it together with the rest of the DRZs..

For Malacca, stop at Machap, then Pagoh, then exit to Malacca..

Hi everyone, I am back from Melaka trip safely!!! a very meaningful trip indeed because it's my first time to ride a bike cover such long distance (500km round trip).

My speed is at about 110km/h and I topped up petrol every 120km.

We ate the famous Chicken Rice Ball at Melaca ! Parking is a bit toublesome as it's Sunday noon when we reach there. A lot of cubs parked in front of the 合计(He Ji) chicken rice ball restaurant.

I took biting_point's advice not bring my backpack and used a cargo net instead. It works well and saved a lot of hassle of carrying a bag on my back, it could be very uncomfortable.

Anyway thank you all for the advice and I hope I can join Friday gathering soon....

Hi,

Mine was spoilt too,

My friend passed me a stable horn, don't really know which model, its just plug and play, and also, i will need to re-route it to the front shroud area which is just infront of the rad.

If you are staying in the north area, you can drop me a pm, i might be able to help u with the fixing.

Good luck :)
