After 2 pairs of Z6, 1 pair of Conti Sports Attack, I notice that there is distinct tire cupping on my rear tire.

Any VFR riders having this tire symptom on their VFRs? :sian:

Any VFR riders having this tire symptom on their VFRs? :sian:

I had this on my front when I used the old series BT020 and 010 (2003) but the current 020 seems to resist this well.

I found this on Goggle:

"CUPPING:

Cupping, which is more accurately described as scalloping, is a natural wear pattern on motorcycle tires and it will always follow the tread pattern. It is not a sign that you have bad suspension parts. It merely shows that your tire is indeed gripping the road when you make turns. This scalloping takes place within the side wear bands of a leaned motorcycle. The extreme forces that come in to play when the bike is leaned in a turn are what produce the effect and when the wear becomes sufficient, one will experience vibration and noise when one banks into a turn on a scalloped tire. The leading edge of the tread grips the road and the rubber is scuffed off the tire in that area causing a depression. As the tire rotates, the pressure moves to the trailing edge of the tread pattern and the tire flexes there which causes less scuffing so less material is ground off the tire. The more complex the tread pattern, the more complex the scalloping pattern will be. The softer the compound of the tire, the sooner this scalloping will become evident. Radial tires are more prone to cupping than are bias ply because the compound of radials is more often softer. Improper balance has nothing to do with "cupping" on a motorcycle tire. Improper balance will merely cause your bike to vibrate at speed. Low tire pressure will exacerbate this wear pattern and you will lose many servicable miles by running low. Check pressure often."

I had read this article somewhere between the transition between the 2 pairs of Z6.

I had check and keep the tire pressure at recommended specs every 2 weeks for the 2nd Z6 and Sports attack, somehow cupping still occurs for them.

I am thinking of letting my stallion wear Dunlop Qualifier for his next pair of shoes. Anyone tried these tyres???

Going track with your V4? Are they cheaper than Racetecs and Diablo Corsa SC3 and the Michelins equivalent?

Maybe going PG year end...No Khakis now...But my current pair of PPs giving me the creeps when the floor is wet...And I cannot carry too much speed with them in the bends...So am thinking of trying something else since Michelin can't do well in Motogp this year...:cheeky:

Cheers.

Advice not to change to M3 .. try power pilot road 2

Can you share your reasons?

I have use m3 for 2 time . Will that be enuff to qualify on my recommendation?

The 2nd pair of m3 is still on my bike which already reach 10k which has been confirm that it reach 8-9k in btw that it start to lost grip and the stablity of the overall. First 5k was the best of all. THe grip was unbelievable to be .

the rest is history .

I brought 2nd time due to Michelle was having recall on tyres therefore i left with no choice but to use again FYI.

Hi,

Can I ask what is the tire pressure? I did not feel my vfr dived into corners after changing tires, and then remembered I have not pump my tires. Noticed it was only about 170pa, then pump up to 250pa (or 36psi), and now bike handles great. However, better check with you what is the correct tire pressure.

Please advise. Thanks.

i guess the most preferred tires are Michellin Road2.

http://www.michelin.com.sg/motorcycle/mot_cat_road_pilot2.jsp

market price now is $400 for both front / rear + balancing.

front 250

rear 290

Roger{;4850499']front 250

rear 290

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

And yes,I too changed to Michellin Road P2. Looks like I have to put in heavier tire pressure on my back to 290kpa.

Be great to find out how the bike will handle. Finally understood why so many people find the handling of VFR so good, haha.. all I needed was to pump up my tires and now bike handles great.

Don't make my mistake.

For the first few weeks of riding the viffer, I pumped in 290 (42 psi) at the front wheel. It was wobbly whenever I braked hard. However, I'm more comfortable with 260 cos I put in a lot more weight at the front wheel & like the lighter front end feel...

frt or back tire pressure wil have to refer to the tyre manufacturer recommendation. BUt Honda recommend is always 36psi (frt) n 42psi (rear) for VFR new bike.

Pirelli Diablo SuperCorsa very gd as i used it regardless wet/dry but the mileage is abt 22-25k, it wil deteriorate very fast but worth tryingit.

Currently use Dunlop Alpha-10 Sportmax, not as gd as Diablo SC, but bo pian la.

changing new tire NO NEED to remove the abs, but make sure the mechanic dun slam the rim ard like no other business. Last of all after new tires are fixed, DO BALANCING......cheers...

speaking about balancing ,

i just got my tyres change at Unique.

unfortunately they dont have the additional special tools for the rear tyres.

i called Boon Siew and they quote me $35 for the rear balancing.Motoword $45.

whats ur say ?

what special tools? is there special tools for the rear tyres?

for that kind of price, i stick to dynamic balancing. tires are forever balanced regardless of amount of wear and tear. best, no ugly looking weights sticking on the rims and not having to worry whether the weights drop off or not :p

what i mean is the balancing of the rear tyres.

as the bike is a pro arm single swing arm just like RVF ,

the shaft is bigger so they need a different add-on tools on the balancing machine.

This is something new to me. Perhaps I should check it out when doing the next tyre change...which is in another 3 months or so...

as Floppy said, most of the tires r balanced unless the rim manufacturer got mishandle it. Tats why need the small 5gm weight to balance it out.

Unless its a BRAND new bike, mostly 2nd-hand bike got weights sticking on the bike rims la.

mine has no weights sticking on it. that's becos it's damn freaking ugly. besides, they'll fall off or the dynamics of the tires (uneven wear and tear) will change over time and what used to be a balanced tires will become unbalanced anyway.

the solution? dynamic weight balancing whereby the weights are free to move to counter balance and in the tire rather than sticking on the rims. automatic balancing when you ride (every single time) :)

video on how it works:

does it works? yes.

nope. didn't get it thru a local source, although a local source may offer it soon. i got it shipped from the states because i was lazy (and it cost

depending on your definition of ceramic beads, these beads are likely to be zirconia/zirconium beads.

I'm using Bridgestones BT021. Have about 2000 km on them and no visible signs of wear. Quite good in wet weather and willing to corner.

Don't know about the Pilot Road 2, though. Anyone can enlighten Echelon?

don't have to think, go for pilot road 2.

the best road/sports touring tires for the vfr currently.

will cost you around $450+ -

Hi I am looking for new tyres for my Viffer, any recommendations?

Best tyre deals - in $ term LAB :giddy: is unbeatable. BUT you must make sure to keep both eyes on them all the way. Also must be patient. AND- no balancing, AND they scuff up yr rims a bit. BUT at pair of BT020 cost $290 incl installation. Overall tyre same same quality but the service ....

I agree they've the best deals but the workmanshop is utterly horrible! Ever since they've scuffed my rims, I've lost faith in their workshop. But then, I still love Ah Boy for his resourcefulness, good deals and trademark scruffy voice...

One way is to buy tyres from him and install/balance at another shop.

Thanks for the advise, I am on BT021 on the front and Metz M2 on the rear, basically stock, so looking at some new ones, the Pilot 2 is for both front and rear?

strange tire choice you have :p

pilot road 2 for front and rear is fine but i'm using pilot power 2ct for the front, and pilot road 2 for the rear :thumb:

Used b4

BT10 front BT20 rear - reasonable price and everlasting..... 1 thing funny about BridgesTone is even i skid still manage to control it back... lucky

Pirelli Diablo - abit Xpen$ive but quite grippy but mileage is...

Now using Continental ContiRoadAttack - price of BT10/20 grip of Pirelli Diablo hope it lasts. Quite like it

Used Pirelli Diablo Corsa - last for quite some time.

Then I switched to Michelin Race Tec - that's because I want to have good grip at the track.

Now, I'm using Pirelli Dragon Corsa - so far, the best grip of the 3 tires.

But you have to compromise mileage if you want grip. Or vice-versa. It depends how u use your bike.

I don't commute using my bike, just for the occasional track use and 2 to 3 trips to Malaysia. My mileage is about 3K per year.

Bought a set of Bridgestones BT021 Front/Rear plus installation and balancing for $410, is this price ok?

I stayed through out the removing/installing process to ensure the person was careful and not scarf my rims.

Quite happy with them, but getting use to the apex feeling of the tyres, and yes seems quite willing to corner.

I think the price abit on the high side for 021.

Have some bad reviews on the front of 021,always out of shape on one side. When new,the tires are good, after a few months....:faint:

I just change to michelin pliot power front and pliot road 2 rear for $410.

2 trips to Mersing and I know will some many pple love this michelin.:thumb:

Past rides are already history....

Current ride: FW VFR 800 ABS
