Hey L, if I recall, one of your bikes have its fork greased and wrapped with foam or a similar material, may I kindly get a picture of how it looks and the costs that comes along with it?

When the winds resist my impetus and sights become passing shadows. Every other sound is voided, all but the undeniable roar of my engine.

My physical vision recepts naught, but my mind is tranquil.

I see my inner soul.

Hey guys! I just saw lawrence's old post and thought since im really bored now, to make a post similar that new riders whom are interested in the rs125 can have simpler qns answered through.

1) What is an Aprilia Rs125?

It is a GP derived 125cc class sport production bike made by italian co. Aprilia, Quoted by motorcyclenews.com "It oozes big motorcycle style and handles like a dream" 'The Aprilia RS125 is probably one of the best handling bikes on the planet'

2) What's the maintenance like?

IMHO its a very general question, and generally it would cost more than the thai-jap bikes ie. KRR, SP, TZM mainly because the spare parts (piston, conrod etc) cost more and often do not have 'chiong parts' as alternatives, usage of fully synth 2t is highly recommended to keep the top at its best and reduce chances of seizures. Other than replacing of major parts which do not happen freq. if you ride on the street, it is not as bad as how your regular uncles at bike shops tell you it is. Often heard from others ' If you want a hot ass italian chick naturally youd have to pay more :)'

Against SP, KRR, TZM, honda wave, which is better?

I dont know why this qns come up(not including this one), what do you mean by better? smells better? fits better?

Put objectively and not insultingly my idea on why its better(also in my sense of the word),

-The krr, sp's (also the honda wave :D) come from thailand and were made for the thai market hence have a smaller cockpit , rs125s are made in italy.

-Rs125 Gp-derived. Aprilia won tons of 125gps with their 125cc racebike(RS125R,RSW125,RSA125) which is what the rs125 is derived from.

-Proper 40mm upside down forks, not telescopes.

-new ones come with radial disc mounts

-cast alluminium box frame not steel

-grimeca rear/front disc brake calipers + cylinders

-bigger 110/70 front 150/60 rear sized tyres

I could carry on but ya'll get the idea. And riders skills play such a big role im sure valentino or jorge could pwn me with a kr or sp anytime.

Hows the fuel consumption?

That varies immensely, from lawrence's >30km/l to me hearing of others having 12km/l, but being totally stock, correct me if im wrong, i'd say about 18-25km/l. The FC is affected by many factors including and not exclusively; carb tuning, wear of piston rings, barrel piston cond etc.

What its Top speed?

It can be anything but a properly tuned stock de-restricted rs125 should go above 160kmh on the meter. Mine highest ive seen is abt 180kmh(meter) with a 34 carb, px cone airfilter, de-cat exhaust.

Which Gen is this Rs125?

From current

2011-2006 - Sharp angular fairings similar to the RSV. Full Digital instrumentation Oz style rims

2005-1999 - Big round fairings five spoke rims, shape similar to 125gp bikes, slope down rear tail.

1998-1996 - Smaller head than gen after it, more squared fairing, has a lower lip below headlight, has a pillion seat grab, 3 spoke rims.

1995-1992 - Similar to 98-96 model, but more squared, noticeable difference is the squared headlight.

Is my bike restricted?

Generally older RS' are fully powered, but there are many ways to see if its restricted. Your speed should be able to tell(unless your bikes all beaten up). If it can go to to about 140 it should be de-restricted, if it struggles at about 120 it should be restricted. Things to derestrict : CDI, Rave/Rave2Pneumatic system, exhaust, carb(if you wanna run the 34mm) Read more here:http://www.125ccsportsbikes.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=31334

How much HP does an RS125 have?

A fully powered stock RS125 does not have a claimed 33hp. If its brand new and totally de-restricted with a 34mm carb and proper exhaust you might hit abt 28hp at the wheel. For a comparison, the 150sp seems to put out about 28-31hp at the wheel but over a broader powerband due to the bigger cc. This is all read from various sources and i might be wrong.

What kinda performance mods should i do?

You could do anything and everything if you had the moolah, But generally as a good start,

1) Exhaust System -after market systems usually make your bike more responsive and rev happy :) legal ones currently i think are arrow street, and gianelli. There are many other good ones out there like scalvini, tyga, jolly moto, jim lomas. Some are stainless steel and wont rust, look real good too! But remember they are not street legal and its your decision.ALSO GOT LAWRENCE'S special special exhaust ask him more about it, full stainless steel, sounds sweet and seems good at the mid and bottom too hehe :D Which is the best? opinions vary but this is a good source, must google translate. http://www.rs125.it/public/wiki/index.php?title=Categoria:Espansioni

2) Carburettor - Rs125 usually come stock with a 28mm vhst or 28phbh depending on model. A general upgrade would be to a VHSB34LD or VHSB34 Racing Carburettor (flatslide). Personally the change of carb makes a huge difference to the bikes character, from a prowling cat to a flying puma with a rainbow horn. Okay not like that but its worth to feel the difference in pull and top end if tuned well.

3) Reeds - Reeds are like plastic pieces that move when fuel+air mixture is 'thrown' from the carb. It is a transition from the carb to the cylinder. Stock ones are seem to be like plastic(not entirely sure) and though they do the job, after market ones help make the bike feel more responsive, as they are more sensitive to the air being sucked in(i hope you guys can visualize lol!) Some brands include boyesen carbon reeds (direct replacement), Vforce 2/3 (slight change of intake tract), carbono reeds etc.

Suspension - Though its not a must, i do think having a good rear/front suspension set up will help you enjoy your ride more. Stock rear shocks die after awhile and are not rebuildable, some after market shocks that are more budget friendly are like bi-tubo which is Spring Pre-load adjustable, or top of the range ohlins which are fully adjustable, compression, rebound, length, and pre-load which are even more adjustable than many litre bikes shocks out there. Other brands include WP, hyperpro, sachs adjustable, wilbur. There are many others. Front fork can also be changed or like getting it done by maxton(fork rebuilds for aprilia superteens) would cost alot, normally changing the fork oil to maybe 15W should make the fork stiff enough and maintaining the cond of the front fork will have you enjoy your ride.

There are many other mods you can do, ie SP 3 spoke rims diff carbs, master cylinder and all that but by then you should know enough. I hope that this simple guide will help those that might have questions like this :D And thanks to those lao jiao for always being patient with me :D

PS:correct me if any info ive written down!!

with grp pipe, carbon fibre look-alike fairings and a logo that looks like "R6" for sure, no RS 125 can stand a chance against the R15.

I believe the word you're looking for is tentative? Hypothesis refers to a proposed explaination or educated guess, usually used in science. :)

It is actually an educated guess on my part that the orders will be ard 550gbp. Coz im also making an assumption, based on my knowledge on his bike, that someone will order something though he hasnt verbally confirmed with me yet =D

So an update : Tentative orders - 500gbp

Hypthetical order - 200gbp =D

Seriously? Once an r15 raced me on the expressway and I merely open slight throttle and I can hear the r15 engine crying for help at just 130km/hr. I was only at gear 4.

My balls r tingling after reading ur statement.

Yes the r15 is faster as it's a 1500cc bike. Understood.

Teck Thye is for those who have the money. Those on a lower budget can go to ah seng.

i dun live in semi d, bungalow, nor condo.. i work for $6/hr job and most importantly i'm not rich and dont have loaded pockets but i know one thing for sure, when i leave my bike at teck thye david hands, they will get the best treatment they can + i'm satisfied with the end result. i used to own a lemon and i guess some forumers knows my pathetic sad story but now i'm proud to say its no longer a lemon anymore under the good hands of my mechanic. tested by other mechanic and proven. Every mechanic have different style and there is this personal and particular reason u will patronise again n again and be a regular. in my opinion you will feel safe leaving ur bike at someone u trust and reliable.

ya and anyway the valve n stainless steel belly are products of teck thye if u ppl arnt aware of. cheers to all.

the first valve and the 2nd SS belly went into my bike.

Pass on the german valve. They are made of cheese. breaks easily. better off getting the valve from Lawrence or get a 2nd hand OEM valve.

The valve that I am selling is made from the same material as the stock valves. I am currently using it on both my Replica and Y2K model RS125.

Seriously, thanks for the links Sub. I had trouble finding the solenoid. The German eBay seller does a good kit of powervalve, housing, fastenings and cable, but no solenoid. Has anyone here bought powervalves from that German seller?

As liquidy has said, the German CNC valves are really soft and malleable. But I bought the valve housing, spring, seals set sans the valve from them. A work of art, and still going strong.

I think the CNC valves are ok. Why people tend to have problems is because the seat for the valve in their block has become too big which causes the valve to rattle around inside and break off eventually due to constant opening and closing. OEM valve only costs about $110 online but Ah seng sold one recently for $230. He claims its OEM, not too sure, didnt see it. I asked him about Law's valve and he said "no power". His words not mine. Hehe.

Maybe we should conduct a test with Law's valve. :)

I've conducted many tests and found the real problem. The dimensions are precise except for the curved section of the valve. This can be easily rectified by using 3 gaskets instead of one.

I know, I know!!! Can be quite a hassle for some which is why I am not selling the valves locally anymore unless someone doesn't mind putting 3 gaskets for the valve housing, which I will provide if you purchase the valves from me.

Grrr... Very irritating when the machinist over promises and under delivers. End up I have to pay the price.

Hey L, if I recall, one of your bikes have its fork greased and wrapped with foam or a similar material, may I kindly get a picture of how it looks and the costs that comes along with it?

It's wrapped in a neoprene fork boot which keeps out the dirt that may scratch the stanchion tubes. More importantly, it prevents stones, gravel, etc from hitting the stanchion tubes and chipping them. Our front mudguards serve absolutely no function in preventing that, hence I put those boots on to protect my new Marzocchi forks.

RS125 can never outrun KRR & the new R15. Period.

Yes, naturally. The R15 is 150cc. The RS125 is 125cc. There is no replacement for displacement. Would love to have a little race with you on PG to prove that you are right though. Invite all your friends too.

ya and anyway the valve n stainless steel belly are products of teck thye if u ppl arnt aware of. cheers to all.

the first valve and the 2nd SS belly went into my bike.

It was my valve that the measurements of the new machined valves were made from. And also my request for the exhaust to be made in titanium, but in the end stainless steel was chosen to keep costs down. David has to protect his interests as a retailer and so do I as a reseller.

Chill la bro.. I live on the streets and beg to earn a living so i can support my bike.. I'm a POOR MAN you know. :) I agree with you on 1 thing. Go to a mech you feel your bike will be in good hands. If the cost is high, but you walk away satisfied, why bother? You pay for the quality.

OEM Aprilia Valves, $150 each.

Currently there's 2 confirmed order. Ordering when it hits 5.

PM me.

Cheers

Hope people can support Koon, he's getting the valves at a good price. I assume they'll be arriving in the original Aprilia packaging? :)

This is interesting... I was under the impression you used your JL to be sent to thailand to be replicated and improved upon via TT's contacts. I thought YOU were selling the exhaust to TT, and 37 Motoring. Not the other way round. :)

When you say your valve was used, are you talking about your original valve or the replicated one you got manufactured with the tests you did to find out the type of material etc. (STM test or something??))

Retailer, reseller... Lol, lots of interesting terms.. So Law, can we now established the fact you're a RESELLER?? Would like to join my enterprise, SubZero Motorsports??? SZM specialises in bringing in parts and accessories for only a MARGINAL profit which will be made transparent to the consumers?

What say you? :)
