Wah, quite fierce-looking leh, I like! I'll probably stick to my stock airbox though. I'm really enjoying the intake sound that is probably old news to so many of you running filterless - so much edgier, and I can actually feel the airbox resonating below the seat.

Oh ho ho! I'm really curious now what you're up to, heheh. I'm doing top overhaul soon actually, where are you getting it done?

I'm glad you're tired of nightlife, otherwise hard to hang out with you. I've partied enough for a lifetime, and drunk enough for two.

Chris,

You removed your filter from your airbox already? hehe, can i have it? As you know, my airbox is filterless..

Hah? Throw away already lah. It was a rotting mess, quite pointless. If you want an affordable filter, I suggest you get a new stock filter and put it in - both the owners' and service manuals don't recommend reusing filters anyway. A crumbling filter could cause a lot more trouble than no filter at all.

Any idea how much a filter would cost? haiz, so many things to do, so little money.

And bro, can you explain to me exactly what to do in the event your engine is COLD when you start your bike?

No idea about price, sorry. Yup, money always no enough, grrr.

Display reads COLD? If it's a hot day, take out your thermostat cable, clean it and the contact point, and try again. Still COLD, start it and let it warm up and see if it gets to normal temp. If it's COLD at night or on a cold day, it's not too surprising. Just start up and let it warm up. If it never reaches operating temperature, or keeps dropping to cold, my guess would be that there's something wrong with the coolant thermostat control and it's constantly circulating coolant - however, that's exactly what I'm going to mod my engine to do to keep it cool in traffic, especially since my engine's running hotter than average.

So what's average temp it should be when riding? My read at around 73 to 78. Is it normal? or high?

By the way can I check with anyone here. What 2T is good for our aprilia bike ha? Lim Ah boy recommend me Putoline fully syn 2T and said that it's even better than Castrol R2. Is it true? So is Putoline 2T good or other brand 2T better?

Thanks.

For riding during the daytime, anything ranging from 65 to 80 should be fine. When stuck in bad traffic, it's not unusual for temperature to hit the 90s until you move.

For 2T, some of us have had good results with Motul (600 and 800) and Maxima. One of us (kink) uses Castrol R2 and has no problems. I use Unil-Opal Titanium fully-synth 2T ($20), which Lawrence's (lacrimosae's) shop NTrust at AMK Autopoint carries. Keeps my valve clean, low smoke, and good performance. There's also Unil-Opal Racing fully-synth 2T ($13), which is almost as good. I'd say you can't go wrong with Unil-Opal oil. I've gone for 2 months without cleaning my valve and it never jammed.

Hi muser,

Thanks for you info. Is Unil-Opal Racing fully-synth 2T ($13) selling at NTrust also? The price sound good for a fully-synth 2T. If it at NTrust can I have the address cos I never go before. For Motul (600 and 800) may I know the difference between the 600 & 800 one? And what's the price? And where can I get them?

By the way you did not mention anything about the Putoline fully syn 2T, do you have any idea whether it is good or not? or maybe your freinds know?

Sorry ask you so many thing as I'm not very sure of all these info.

Thanks in advance.

What i was asking is what is the proper procedure to start up your engine when it is cold? like on a cold day? How do you choke the engine, for how long etc. Sorry if i wasnt clear enuff before.. i encountered this problem twice in the past few days as my bike was parked out in the open and it rained like hell at night for the past few days..

NTrust's address is 10 AMK Ind Pk 2A, AMK Autopoint #05-28. If you're going by CTE, take the AMK Ave 5 exit.

I've never used Putoline so I can't give you any feedback. As for Motul, you can get it at Racewerkz in Alexandria, among other places.

I don't think there are any strict rules about this. How your carb is tuned also affects how easy it is to start when cold. If I remember right, if you're running lean it's harder to start when cold. To be honest, I never bother with the choke - I just give it a bit of throttle. If you do want to use the choke, my recommendation is that you turn it to full, then crank your engine. After the engine's running, wait maybe 5 seconds, then turn it to the halfway setting. After another 5 seconds, turn it all the way off. Then you can ride.

If the engine dies while the choke is on, quickly turn it off, then start the engine with the choke off. Once the engine is running again, you can put it back on. My reasoning is this: If your engine dies while the choke is on, the carb can be quickly flooded, making it even harder to start. That's why you're better off starting it without the choke in those circumstances before reapplying it.

If at any time during this procedure you hear the engine sound start to get thick, low, muffled and bubbly, and seems about to die, quickly blip the throttle a few times cuz it's a sign of excessive richness and if the engine dies at that point, it can be hard to start back up.

Like I said, this isn't a textbook procedure, just my experience.
