maintenance of disc locks is very important as the movable parts (including the lock pin) must be able to move freely. i always clean and oil my LAB unit generously after each use before putting it away for the next use; oily it may be, it is still working well after 2 years. sounds like clean carbon then oil thick thick before putting back to armory ya :p

one reminder, never use WD40 or similar product on the disc lock unless really bo-pian, e.g. when pin is already ceased up, key assembly stuck due to rust, etc. if need it to "bite" rust, i strongly recommend to have all residue thoroughly cleaned and then apply proper lub or grease over the parts. as much as the manufacturer claims otherwise, WD40 isn’t effective in rust prevention. ask around, and you’ll find many pp concurring. these juices work very well as degreasers, so well that they somewhat clean away the original coat of lubrication on the parts applied, leaving only a thin layer of light lub which tends to dry up in short time. once light lub is evaporated, whala… rust lai liow :faint:

from WD40.com

WD-40 is the ultimate multi-purpose problem solver. WD-40 cleans/degreases, penetrates to loosen up stuck parts, prevents corrosion and is a light lubricant.

from wikipedia

WD-40's main ingredients are:

50%: Stoddard solvent (similar to kerosene)

25%: Carbon dioxide (as propellant)

15+%: Mineral oil (light lubricating oil)

10-%: Inert ingredients

nowadays better quote with reference, wait later kenna for plagiarism

Common desirable features of a good bike alarm include:

+ long distance 2-way system

+ waterproof & shock resistant unit

+ immobilizer

+ visual & loud audio siren

+ shock sensor

+ tilt sensor

+ perimeter sensor (user can set sensitivity)

+ GPS tracking (available for cars but dunno about bikes)

What is a 2-way system? sorry for this question...never installed alarm before...

Posted

answers to your question...

what can a 2 way alarm do? and what are the different btw the normal n 2 ways alarm? and if me install the alarm at 06 runner under seat storage, can we still put a helmet?

Normal alarm will only sound when someone meddles with ur bike, however with 2 way alarm ur bike will sound and the remote control will sound too when someone meddles with ur bike.

1-way = controller sends signals to bike (arm or disarm alarm)

usually use simple controller with only buttons.

2-way = controller sends signals to bike (arm or disarm alarm) + bike sends signal to controller (e.g. when alarm activated)

usually use LCD controllers with many displays.

some make/models have many modes available; both bike & controller sound, bike silent & controller sound, bike sound & controller silent, both silent, etc.

some FM models can transmit very far.

ehh... you tried top down after removing the front cover (boomerang-shaped panel) or bottom up from the front wheel?

My best access area is from the right side compartment.

Same step as yours but with additional step of taking out the right side compartment for access. I only use the boomerang opening for viewing only.
