Guys,

Agenda : Day Trip to Cherating via Mersing (Road No. 3).

Date : 14 Aug 04

Meetup Place : Woodlands Esso (near American School)

Meetup Time : 0630hrs

Confirmed participants

1) CasperXXX

2) SilverGhost

3) OMD

4) jleo

5) Casio

I have consulted some friends who have done Cherating ride/drives and they say that it is a relatively long ride which can be taxing for a day trip. They did say that it gets very nice and scenic after Mersing when the road will be next to the beaches. FYI, Cherating is near the Pahang and Trengganu border.

So, the the upcoming ride, where should we ride up to before making the turn to ride back. As for myself.............it is all about riding!!!!

From,

OMD

P.S. My ZX11 friend has to work on that day, so he's out.

So Many Roads

Hey Euro

What you mean in the pass you used to get 20km/L now only about 19km/L you really save alot of petrol..! You need to recalibrate you carberrattor or what, or you change your riding style too...mind maybe my riding habit...17km/L used to ride fast...and always warm up for 5mins before any trip...

Hi OMD

Silverghost,

Thanks Bro. I'll try to make it if i don't have to travel that weekend. It's good to know that i'm always welcome to join in any ride even if i am not riding the same bike. Thanks. Seldom see you at Esso nowadays?

OMD,

Your friends were spot on regarding the distances. We would be pushing it for a day ride. If not wrong on a 4 wheel, the drive from Cherating to JB would take about 5 - 6 hrs non stop. Also, there's quite a bit of speed trap on the coastal route. My friend who has driven there before kena many tickets. I think the speed limit there is 90km/h tops on the nice stretch and i can guarantee that we would be doing more than the limit. It's not because we like speeding but it's just too tempting the curves and bends. Furthermore there won't be many cars travelling on that road.

Would overnight be a good suggestion?

Well, that's just my thoughts. I'll just let the boss decide and i'll just follow. Too many indian chief not good. If we are set for a day trip, bring it on! :cheer: :cheer:

Totally agreeable with Silverghost. Got a point there. Perhaps i should put myself under the pending list because i still cannot confirm if i'm needed for business traveling or not that weekend. I did state down that i may have to travel that weekend.

Sorry guys!

Hey guys, now very interested in a diversion. But the problem is, i have a dilelma. ST11 or Diversion?

This is what i heard

ST11

. Out of production

. But spare parts readily available.

. 2nd hand quite affordable around 9 - 12k

. HONDA engine, never die

BUT

. Bigger cc, road tax more.

. Radiator, troublesome.

. Not much top end, but torquey.

Diversion 900

. Out of production also.

. If not good, why gahment using it?

. Spare parts, should be easy to find cos TP using the bike.

. First hand, quite cheap.

. no radiator, no rpoblem.

Now the main thing i need to know is, how's the realibility of the engine? Can it compare with a honda? And can it sustain me and my girl, with total combined weight of 190kg? How much is a 2nd selling for?

Sigh, so many bikes, so little time, and cash.

Your inputs and advice would really be appreciated and althogh at in the end, which bike i buy will be my choice, I am open for as many suggestions as possible.

Thanks alot guys, hope to join y'll in one of your rides soon, although i am now currently riding a super 4, which is struggling very hard to defy the law of physics and propel me and my girl at rather comfortable speeds.

Hiya,

You should read thru the Diversion thread and it should answer most, if not, all you queries or doubts about the bike. It is a bike you'll either love or hate.

Many will say why settle for old technology in a bike when there new bikes decked with the latest in race tech fresh from the MotoGp? That you'll have to look into yourself and answer it.

Most of the Diversion owners here have been riding for many years and have gone thru many different models or brands of bikes. At the end of the day, what the Diversion rider wants in his bike are reliability, ease of use, no nonsense maintenance and comfort.

Getting yourself a used Diversion can be a challenge coz not many are selling their prized machine. Good luck on your journey to find yourself the "perfect" ride.

Thanks again for the advice.

hello William

You may also want to consider the road you frequently travel. If it matters to you of course. For example, how many times do you tour in a year...5%? ... Do you have to fight with heavy traffic everyday?

I use to own a ST11 and an @. In my opinion, the divvy is almost as agile as a @ and, as fast and comfortable as a ST... both bikes served their purpose very well to me... for now this combination is what i like on my divvy! On top of all that, it has a worry-free engine and looks great even without the panniers! :cheeky:

You mentioned combine weight of 190KG.. If you are tall, I think your knee may touch the fairing of the ST11.

Touring on a Divvy in the EU is popular... here is a little link to get you started.

http://groups.msn.com/YamahaDiversions/new...oto&PhotoID=271

(Those with the smaller cowling are the 600.. which are as popular as the 900s.)

Have fun!

William Tan,

Hi there!....Ask yourself what you want out from the bike, just use it as a transport or wanted to explore(like to tour)?

For ST11 and XJ9 they have alot of good and not so much bad sides...both consider as a sport tourers for ST11 my advise check it out at their thread I know Simon Soh will help you in any queries...

For XJ9 a bike with an old technologies yes but it never gives a problem out of a sudden it had been through refinement (improvement) all the years so far nothing major all are minor refinements...from 1994 to 2003 Dec...

A basic engine with a forward incline & in line-four no problem it is one of the simplest engine...there are few bikes out there with this type of technologies for e.g. the former TP's CB750 honda, bike now still used by millitary police/cisco it is 20yrs old another bike is XJ750 yamaha chain driven still in the usage very basic engine last longer and no complications...

For your information XJ9s this bike are fully utilized on the road most of the time speeding chasing around so you should know their(TP) demands...its a proven technology.

But the problem is to get hold of this bike is not easy... YES! it's not much bikes out there..true! maybe it is less then 40 pieces in singapore but people always realized it very late...:lovestruck: about the advantages.. those who already owned it, I don't think they would be selling it or trading it for now. If you can get hold of ONE ... good luck to you.

:goodluck: :goodluck: :goodluck: ..hope to see you...safe riding!!!

Silverghost, when you mentioned that it is hard to get, you mean even from hong leong, a brand new one?

Hiya,

I am afraid the Diversion is no longer in production. Due to the strict emission rules in th EU (main market for the Diversion), Yamaha has decided that it is not economically viable to revamp the Diversion's engine to meet the emission guidelines.

I bought one of the last brand new Diversion in Singapore. You can try to look for used ones, but as mentioned before, it can be a daunting task.

Guys,

For the 14th day ride, since Cherating is quite far for a day ride, anyone has any better ideas? My suggestion is to ride the Trunk Road No. 3 (leading to Mersing) and then we just head up as far north as we comfortably can, before turning back for home. Since the ride will be quite scenic, we shall do it at a more leisurely pace as compared to the PD/Sepang ride.

What say you guys? As for me, it is all about riding......................

Good day to you guys,

I am quite curious? who have changed the clutch cable soo farr...I just want to know about how many kilometer/usage -to take the cable to give way...(wear n tear/snap).

Or anybody does lubricate their cables moving parts e.g. centre/side stand, suspensions...!

Any of you interested in getting the TDM's mirrors they look good, the mirror cover(casing) itself are convex to let the wind, flow off and reducing the pressure on the rear view mirror casing... if it were to compare to divvy flat sided casing ...during fast rides the wind pressures on the casing would push off the mirror from the prefixed viewing angle....so always must adjust :nono: need to check with H L about the $$$$$...

Hi,

Do these TDM mirrors fit onto the Diversion? I would not mind changing if there is no modifications needed to be done.

In the meantime.................get ready for the 14th.............Wooohoooo!!!!!
