cybernation: whoa, ur wife rides or drive? glad she'sok and how come fine also? wat was the charges against that driver and got claim ghao ghao?

cpt.zr: yup, the 1 day jail is really fugged up. "I will donate 10k to charity". change it to 1 cent coins and shove it up ur s la!

She ride, the driver escaped with a stern warning from TP and a fine. What the driver did was signal and turn her car 'immediately' without even some slight checking of her surroundings. The claim part was minor (only 5k). My wife lost one of her front tooth and suffered multiple abrasions. I'm so damn sad when I saw her in the hospital. The driver later twisted her words during the insurance claiming process. Lucky we have a witness. Damn bustard! Gets me boiling when starts to talk abt it.

A flawed system that has made a "last minute" mistake, plus an extremely lenient penalty -- is the system making drivers more complacent road commuters? Also, added to the fact that most of them themselves think car insurance and the ability to make damage claims are sorry excuses to be bolder on the road?

I've read the posts on motorcycling safety and thank the efforts of all bikers who try to make our safety a priority.

However am i the only one who thinks this is all for nothing when the law does not protect motorcylists? I am referring to the infamous sin min editor who had her sentence reduced to 1 day's jail for killing a pillion rider and permanently maiming the rider. what kind of a message does that send out? that our lives are not worth protecting? if i did not read incorrectly it also does not mention if her 10 year ban from driving was upheld. so does this mean she's free to drive again? and is SPH still employing her, a dangerous and reckless driver?

I would like to write in to the media with some support from bikers here, for those who have lost friends and relatives to drivers like this and also to highlight the injustice in this case.i am sick and tired of being at the mercy of these road killers. kindly attached your names below. thank you.

Lo-on and Yongster and all who are affected by this incident,

I'm glad I managed to get some reactions from persons here.

I too have had frens chopped down in the prime of their lives and those who are still healing from the wounds.

As you guys had put it so eloquently. You want to express yourselves. By all means, please do. But dont put it under the guise of a petition that would not be forwarded to anyone who can actually make a difference.

All I'm asking is channel your angst and frustration to something quantifiable. If my words can invoke some reaction/sentiment from you chaps, imagine what your words can do to your MP, your company, your community. Everyone always (Singaporeans as well) have things to say. When it comes to getting it done, no one acts on it.

If I can have one person who comes up to me and says that he will go through the touble with me, I will do the following...
-I will draft out a petition to request for laws in protecting motocyclist
-I will get 500 signatures if this other person commits to getting 500 signatures.

This is not a challenge to anyone, but a call to action. If anyone else wants to do this with me, you are most welcome. If anyone has knowledge of Singapore law, that would help tremendously.

Lets not sit around and talk about it anymore. Lets do something about it.

Judging by your previous posts i take that you are genuine with concerns and i think we need someone like you on our side. I'll be glad to meet you up with you and some of the other forummers to see if we can take this up via the methods you have mentioned.

On the other hand i also agree with bro jackohjack that we should keep this thread going. as highlighted somewhere above this, someone has already taken noticed(in their blogs, car forums etc) and i'm sure many more will, isn't this the whole point of this section 'Rally Point'? if in the end it ends here then at least we didnt just sit around staring at our screens and wondering what if someone spoke up.

i do not want to another statistic in a government chart.

Hey Stommer and lo-on,

I'm kinda in a small PM session with JackOHJack trying to figure out how to best get this done.

I'm in no way a leader, nor do I want any recognition. I want to see some changes happen. If they dont, I hope that I can at least say I tried.

First call of action is to draft what we intend to achieve by the petition. Our "mission statement" if I may. The mission statement must be factual. There can be no emotional spilliage into this document.

For the petition to be taken seriously, I have always believed in visibility. If a group who is visible enough and carries a note-worthy message, you will be heard.

While the petition is forming, we should try and organise some "positive" visibility through the different forms of media. Do stuff such as Charity, Awareness Campaigns, and (I think this is very important) a pro-Singapore campaign.

Well... just my 2 cents worth. If we start this, and I mean if, it will be a long winding road...

easy mate. U draft it, publicise the date in a thread and venue and we all come down to sign it. I see quite a number of people carrying this thread's link in their signature already. If u publicise a call to arms (ah hem) to sign it, i will be there. I didn't bothered to sign my name in this thread because i know this thread will not go anywhere. What is needed is someone who will sit at a coffee shop, collect signatures with name and I/c, take charge of delegating the next person to sit and watch it be signed, and finally send to an MP, media.

You got a point stommer, I believe acquiring our signature wouldn't be a problem. I believe among us there's someone capable and able to help out. I believe many understand it well, our intention is to rise awareness before something big happen in the future. Its a small step we can take to make it happen. God Bless everyone.

We are just human beings with feelings and would like to know that a live is indeed not that cheap, and if anything were amiss throughout the case.

In the event that u r not a biker, or not associated with bikers, then why r u... ... ...? we can use ur help if u choose to, or would u rather just be cyclops and lend us ur eye-power?

My guess is that u will nv come back to this page/ this forum again after that comment designed to knock us off. We will take it positively as an encouragement to all fellow bikers who feel about this particular case.

If u guys know of anyone in the media/ grassroots leaders/ LTA etc and u think contacting them will not be too troublesome, perhaps we can send the representative petition letter to these leaders.

Justin what we need is someone who knows how to bring forth the message to the public and eventually to the local authorities by not challenging them.

I believe u know how to.

So besides getting all the names and so forth, do let us know the steps and actions that we need to so that its not a kind of "voicing-out-our-frustrations-in-a-forum-for-a-while-and-forget-about-it-after-some-time" kind of thing.

If there is a need to really sit down and discuss more about it, let us know.

A flawed system that has made a "last minute" mistake, plus an extremely lenient penalty -- is the system making drivers more complacent road commuters? Also, added to the fact that most of them themselves think car insurance and the ability to make damage claims are sorry excuses to be bolder on the road?

I've read the posts on motorcycling safety and thank the efforts of all bikers who try to make our safety a priority.

However am i the only one who thinks this is all for nothing when the law does not protect motorcylists? I am referring to the infamous sin min editor who had her sentence reduced to 1 day's jail for killing a pillion rider and permanently maiming the rider. what kind of a message does that send out? that our lives are not worth protecting? if i did not read incorrectly it also does not mention if her 10 year ban from driving was upheld. so does this mean she's free to drive again? and is SPH still employing her, a dangerous and reckless driver?

I would like to write in to the media with some support from bikers here, for those who have lost friends and relatives to drivers like this and also to highlight the injustice in this case.i am sick and tired of being at the mercy of these road killers. kindly attached your names below. thank you.

A flawed system that has made a "last minute" mistake, plus an extremely lenient penalty -- is the system making drivers more complacent road commuters? Also, added to the fact that most of them themselves think car insurance and the ability to make damage claims are sorry excuses to be bolder on the road?

She ride, the driver escaped with a stern warning from TP and a fine. What the driver did was signal and turn her car 'immediately' without even some slight checking of her surroundings. The claim part was minor (only 5k). My wife lost one of her front tooth and suffered multiple abrasions. I'm so damn sad when I saw her in the hospital. The driver later twisted her words during the insurance claiming process. Lucky we have a witness. Damn bustard! Gets me boiling when starts to talk abt it.

I'm glad I managed to get some reactions from persons here.

I too have had frens chopped down in the prime of their lives and those who are still healing from the wounds.

As you guys had put it so eloquently. You want to express yourselves. By all means, please do. But dont put it under the guise of a petition that would not be forwarded to anyone who can actually make a difference.

All I'm asking is channel your angst and frustration to something quantifiable. If my words can invoke some reaction/sentiment from you chaps, imagine what your words can do to your MP, your company, your community. Everyone always (Singaporeans as well) have things to say. When it comes to getting it done, no one acts on it.

If I can have one person who comes up to me and says that he will go through the touble with me, I will do the following...
-I will draft out a petition to request for laws in protecting motocyclist
-I will get 500 signatures if this other person commits to getting 500 signatures.

This is not a challenge to anyone, but a call to action. If anyone else wants to do this with me, you are most welcome. If anyone has knowledge of Singapore law, that would help tremendously.

Lets not sit around and talk about it anymore. Lets do something about it.

I'm kinda in a small PM session with JackOHJack trying to figure out how to best get this done.

I'm in no way a leader, nor do I want any recognition. I want to see some changes happen. If they dont, I hope that I can at least say I tried.

First call of action is to draft what we intend to achieve by the petition. Our "mission statement" if I may. The mission statement must be factual. There can be no emotional spilliage into this document.

For the petition to be taken seriously, I have always believed in visibility. If a group who is visible enough and carries a note-worthy message, you will be heard.

While the petition is forming, we should try and organise some "positive" visibility through the different forms of media. Do stuff such as Charity, Awareness Campaigns, and (I think this is very important) a pro-Singapore campaign.

Well... just my 2 cents worth. If we start this, and I mean if, it will be a long winding road...

i've not had time to read through his blog yet

I really RESPECT the spirit that the riders are showing and the camaderie

but has anyone contacted Mr. Parriselanno with regards to how he really feels about this, and if he would like to take any redressing actions, or is he sincerely happy to just get on with life.

we have to remember, that although we are fighting for the greater good of all riders, this case per se does involve the rider of this incident - Mr. Pattiselanno.

ultimately we have to respect whatever decision HE has.

Im a forumer from the Singapore Bikers Forum. Thank you for adding me as a friend. It has come to my concern about your case. We have all heard about the verdict and are all very furious about it. I personally see no justice at all. We have all signed off and am getting someone to send it up to further ask for an answer.

UPZ for u my fren!!

Dear frens, Mr Mr Pattiselanno fine reply. Im impress with his humble and loving personality.

Thank you, I appreciate very much for your concern. I recollect my biking days from 1959. My earlier bikes were British-made like Nortons, Triumph and BSA. Later ones were Japanese Suzukis and Hondas. Younger days were exciting we used to race at .......................

Hey all,

Good work with the contact and sending Mr. Pattiselanno our best regards.

To be honest (again... Im probably gonna tick someone off...), we would not be able to get a change in the verdict because it was already a conviction. Then, sentencing is controlled by judges; as long as the sentence falls within the provisions on the act the person was charged under, and adheres to legal precedent, we would not be able to change that either.

I guess what we're trying to achieve here is to two pronged:

-to make the community at large acknowledge bikers as an equal road user while recognising that bikers are far more susceptible to harm than others.

-to ensure that road negligence causing severe bodily harm or death is dealt a similarly severe penalty.

A couple of wise persons have advised me to not attempt to lobby for changes in legislation for the time being but to work on creating awareness for our cause. I was reminded that legal changes will be difficult for unknown causes...

So, here are my new recommendations:

1) Petition for more awareness campaigns by the authorities.

2) Organise an event/Tag along with events to bolster awareness

3) Memorial Day - A day every year where we show that we remember our lost brethren.

Can some of us come out this Saturday night to have a chat and some brainstorming? I normally head out for a meet up with a few bikers on Saturday nights. PM me if you would be able to make it. I'll let you know where and when to meet.

I sincerely hope this gets going...
