Once the above are cared for, old age will take over. My 5th genner is now 9.5 yrs old and has one change of rectifier with battery due to not changing the battery earlier. Since implementing the regime, (touch wood) - no prob.

Hope that helps.

My 5th Gen isn't coping as well. Some unknown wiring issue forced me to bypass the headlight circuit completely (weird things happen when I switch on the headlights for too long). Now, sometimes the FI lights up and stay on but disappears when I switch off and restart the bike. Have some problem starting up too despite changing to a new battery....sigh...

But then if such problems don't exist the bike will be too perfect.

Hi snow

According to the factory manual and based on yr description, of lit F1 light and engine starting normally, it says the probable causes may be Quote" Short circuit in the malfunction indicator wire; Short circuit in service check connector wire ; or Faulty ECM."

Or as was previously the case in a previous owners' case herein, the wiring loom was snagged between the head stock and the steering head.

electrical problem is such a ***** innit?

Yup I read that, kinda concluded it's a wiring problem so continue riding. Will do a wiring harness change in June (got a 2nd hand one from eBay, hopefully it's good...). Changing the left and right switches as well cos they're kind of old and weathered.

I hate wiring problems!

Thanks for your patience boss...

I see a clearer picture now...

Btw, just called up FJT for a quote for original Rectifier and Battery for 6th Gen.

Rectifier : $170

Battery : $165

i bought a spare rectifier @ FJT or Ever Success ( the one at Rowell Road )

@ $150.

Have some problem starting up too despite changing to a new battery....sigh...

you might want to check the carbon starter.

it did happen to me before. just 1 wire connector melt. took the mech almost a month to find it. damm suay. didn't know what cos it so end up replacing the whole wiring harness cum ecu (2.2k spent) and took another 1 month to find and import both from japan. took out all extra item like steble horns, GPS cable and my alarm system.

the connector melt again after 2 months of riding, so i finally took out the last extra item (HID) out. And yessss! found out that its was the HID cosing all problem. a good friend told me that its was the HID balast. and i should get from a well known brand like philp or hella.

sourcing a brand new wire harness is really hard for the 5th gen. so please take great care.

ps. my rear brake pump have die and i'm in need to change. does another brother know where and which brake pump from other bike is suitable. as i'm kinda of budget so trying to source out for a 2nd second hand.

many thanks

Roger

I think its most likely only the rear master cylinder piston that needs replacing. You can get that from FJT 0r Boon Siew. I got mine for $35 from Boon Siew in May 07. Did the replacement myself. 10~20 mins job - the bulk of time is for bleeding. Prepare some brake fluid for bleeding too.

Update from AhBoy.

YTZ12S out of stock, he said not many ppl using, so not going to order in near future unless there is demand.

Only have YTZ10S and YTZ14S in stock.

If wan YTZ12S, he gotta take from other source, and price would be 100+.

Was about to grab the YTZ14S until AhBoy mentioned that size different, sure can fit?

But read ard and details show that its the same size?

Not the same as far as I can recall. Slightly bigger, and the +ve and -ve terminal is opposite as well.

I'm experiencing the same problem too. Read up on VFRD, it maybe due to the earth block connector(if i'm not wrong bout the name). Not so sure bout it but when the FI lights up i played around with it and the FI lights off. But it came back eventually. Checked the connector it was a bit burned. Hmmm...o_O

Sorry...for the late reply...Not sure for Gen 5,but Gen 6..we can use YTZ14S.The +ve and -ve terminal are ok,not oppsite.

I haven change mine yet.

If it cant fit, then how come so many VRFD guys using the YTZ14S....

Past rides are already history....

Current ride: FW VFR 800 ABS

Stated by vfrd guys that the size are same, but AhBoy and bro snowparang mentioned that its of a bigger size?

I took a look at our 6th gen battery compartment, not much space left with my original battery (YTZ12S) in there. So wondering if a Bigger size YTX14S can fit in anot?

like tat ar,cause I haven trial fit yet.So cant confirm with you..Think the best is for you to take out yr batt at LAB there and compare..YTZ12S vs YTZ14S..

I just realise something...my 5th gen uses YTZ12-BS (or is it YTX12-BS? drats...getting old...).

To make it simple, is the positive terminal on the left or right hand side (when you sit on bike). For the 5th Gen, the +ve terminal is on the left.

The positive terminal (cable) is on the left side. For a moment,i thought gen 5 is diff..thats why cant use YTZ14S...

Was at LAB and requested for a Yuasa YTZ14S.

He gave me a Yuasa TTZ14S instead. Didnt take the offer.

So for now, no stock for YTZ12S and YTZ14S from LAB.

TTZ14S is made in Yuasa Taiwan..Same spec as YTZ14S.

I actually took out my battery YTZ12S to compare the dimension with this TTZ14S. They are actually identical in size.

Also notice that the packaging is different from Yuasa Japan. Just a plain white colored box.

Was adviced from a friend that it might be a "chiong" battery.

So this TTZ14S is also safe to use on our vfr?

Thanks for comparing the 2 diff batteries,at least we have confirmation that both YTZ12S,YTZ14S (TTZ14S) can be fit in to the bike.

TTZ14S just made in cheaper manufacturer owned by Yuasa(Cheaper labour,etc)..will you call a toyota car a "chiong" car if it's made in Thailand, instead of Japan?..

The most important is to charge up the batt on a batt charger before install on bike to use.Change a new batt every 1.5 to 2 years.

Thanks for the info.

I did a search for this TTZ14S, and yes, its listed under Yuasa Taiwan.

The one LAB gave me was exactly the one in the below link.

Time for a trip to LAB again.
