for now la. it's a sooner or later thing. maybe i will break the news after i get a new job. am helping out with the family business now and a car is provided for me at all times but when i work elsewhere, i can use the excuse that i would need a vehicle of my own for transportation. it's not going to be easy for sure but at least i will have a valid reason then. i have absolutely no excuse now, except a passion, of which everyone in my family thinks is crazy. :cheeky:

fluff > me?riding for only 3 weeks!!!

can you imagine that??

so many things have happened since then...

enthusiastic about scoots, n even when it rains i ride...

just rode ard in the rain on saturday after sending my gf home...

gwee > yeah..when the weather clears up, i'll be riding ard...

for now it's quite a hassle to ride

haah 3 weeks!!! wow yeah lots have happened and you have learnt a lot in 3 weeks eh? haha anyway, be real careful while riding in the rain. lots of fallen tree branches on the road and puddles of water which we drivers inadvertently splash all over pedestrians and at times, motorists. a big splash over your face can give you a very rude shock so do go slow and be prepared for shocks like these. i'm hoping you don't ride in heavy rain though. it's really very dangerous. i drive in heavy rain pretty often and to be honest, even with my wiper, i sometimes can't really see what's in front and beside me. can't see the road markings either so keeping to the lane is sometimes a problem too. i do try to go slow and be real careful of cos, don't want to end up causing an accident. crazy weather we've had so far but good news - it's lookin good today!

yeap..3 weeks...n alot has happened..

alot of money has gone into the scoot...

i really need someone experienced to show me quite abit..

kos if i don't know what to ask, then i don't know if it needs to be fixed...

heavy rain??..hmmm..if too heavy of course i wont ride...

unless i'm riding then it rains heavily, which is of course a different story...

most probably i'll only do servicing next paycheck....

need to pay my brother $200....

Hey Fluffpuff, come along next Friday if you can... we can show you these things as Cephelix takes a crash course in

1) Spark plug removal (and how to do a plug chop to check carb jetting)

2) Flywheel removal (to check timing)

3) Carb setup (to make sure scoot doesn't run too lean (hot) and seize

4) See how the first three go and then decide if any other things can be taught.

Cephelix, I shall bring my tools and tell you what to do with them... I'd rather that you're the one who works on your scoot as you'll learn more that way... I'll supervise

Sharpey > thanx for all the help...need someone to help me badly...

aniways, will need the proper tools to get the job done...be sure you bring the jets....

gonna need to buy proper tools n keep a toolkin in my sidebox

and yeah...crash courseeee!!!! i love steep learning curves!

-= Unsure of what to get=-

Cool... I have a spare 130 jet.... which will be plenty rich for you..... but I'm betting you've got one already... we shall see....

Steep though the curve may be, once you know the basics, the rest comes naturally....

There are cetain things I'm sure I'll never learn... like how to do cylinder mods and port timing etc... things get a bit too mathematical for my tastes at that level!

hi sharpey, u mean this coming friday don't you? was thinking of bringing my bike down to ah joo's tomorrow to respray my sidebox, i don't know if my bike will be ready by friday. anyway thanks for your offer - i really have so much to learn! my bike died out on me once (brake lining was worn out and there was a strong burning smell), i was like ehh what's going on?? thank god i was with a bunch of the aj guys, otherwise i really would be stranded and lost, not knowing what went wrong and what to do at all.

and yes, it will be a steep learning curve for me too

Posted

 No worries... am sure we'll see you and Bianca at a meetup one of these days....

When you get a respray, bear in mind that they don't fully disassemble the scooter to do the spraying... this means that certain areas don't get either a) well prepared for painting, and then b) don't get painted at all...

Because they don't remove the front mudguard, the paint at the top (where it connects to the fork, won't be well painted...

Because they don't remove the engine, the area behind it will not get painted well either.... Seeing as you obviously want to get a good paintjob, ask how much it will cost to dissasemble (partially) the scoot before respray... I think this is what Gweester is doing, so check with him.

sharpey - i am only respraying my sidebox, where a chunk of paint got scraped off. it cost me $40 i think, the last time i resprayed my sidebox. and it took mere days for the respray to be completed. within four days, that i'm pretty sure.

wow you guys are early birds =(

fluff - if you just respray your sidebox, the paint isn't gonna match 100% right? since the rest of Bianca has been subjected to the weather etc.

Btw i have a small problem on my vespa, wondering if anyone can enlighten me on. sometimes my tail light's (the one that is on always) wiring somehow gets loose or shorts with the metal casing causing it to go off, together with my headlight as well. i've tried to use electrical tape to secure the wires in space and it has worked in the past. but recently my tail light doesnt work again and my headlight sometimes goes off suddenly. i've tried retaping but it doesnt work anymore. =(

any suggestions?

Chung...were you at Ah Joo's on Sat?

I was passing by...

and yes as Gweester mentioned...do check ur bulbs to see if its blown.

fluffpuff...dont gve up on Bianca. if you really do hve the passion for Vespa's, you'll find ways to overcome ur crisis. we all had to face similar issues like yours at the beginning(sumhow its an asian thing-backdated parents..hehe)

As well as verbal attacks from fellow scooterists(they think they know it all,tat kinda crap..haha!)

ride on scooterists babe

haha i'm not giving up on her just yet. will only give her up when i have absolutely no choice i guess. my parents are super traditional, my dad super fierce when he goes mad, my mother's a worry-wart, i'm a girl, i have a car provided for me to drive in everyday - all these are factors which work against me.

verbal attacks from fellow scooterists? hahahh does "oi you wobble your way down ar" count?

c00l..you'll find ways to overcome your Vespa issues(we all had too :cheeky: )

as for verbal comments from other riders...there's all kinds. sum discouraging words etc etc.

but mostly from riders, who think they know it all.

these are people who knows nuts about their own bikes(xcept when it's not working and run to the workshops) and pretend to offer advice, which they were told b4 hand or read and download from the net.

and even make comments that like A shop is lousy/chin chye and B shop is good..haha!

you'll find ur way round.

dont mind these people..sumtimes its all about the attention they try to seek.

to be fair, they are genuine people who knows their stuff...sharpey's pass comments shows he's in the know.

and hey, if you wobble, just rev-it up babe..hahaha!

till next...

ahaha yar everyone says i wobble and don't ride in a straight line. and when i pillion people (especially heavy guys), i scare them sh#$less all the time with my wobbling  anyway, it's probably not so bad now but yea everyone was teasing me when i first rode my bike around haha

have you been riding for a long time now? cos you sound like you have been riding for quite some time. anyway you go to AJ for servicing too?

vespasprint > really new!got my licence on the 7th of dec 06 n got my scoot on the 27th of dec o6...only other bikes i've ridden was the training bikes at the driving centre n a cub while i was in vietnam for 12 days....

sharpey >for the paint job, can ask to fully disassemble???how much does TA charge for full disassembly w/ good quality paintjob?

teach me about vespas!..

hopefully someday,i'll be able to service my own ride....

Whoa vespasprint... I was getting annoyed with you for a moment there till I saw my name mentioned favourably

Am definately a firm believer in not offering advice on how to do soemthing unless I know damn well its good advice. Half the crap I trawl though on the scooterbbs shows how some people are very free and easy with suggesting things to do.... I'll speak for Gweester as well, given than even though he's just getting into the swing of things again, his passion for Vespa's sees him offering good advice too....

But hey, everybody has to learn from somewhere... just perhaps that people should be more wary of what they try to teach/preach.....

I really don't know how much they'd charge to dissassemble... they may not want to do it for you (hassle).... go and have a talk with Ah Wee and see what he thinks... Alternative ask Gweester, I think he said he was having his scoot partially dismantled before spraying....

Somethings are easier to dissassemble than others...

The side boxes, and glove box are obviously easy.... as it the top of the handlebars (unless you've got one of those 1 piece old vespa ones)

Taking the front mudguard off requires the forks to be dropped (not too big a deal)

Taking the engine out to spray the body properly.... this is the hard part....

Most folks don't bother doing any disassembly before spraying... so I think shops don't tend to offer it (no interest from market)... the trouble is that the quality of your painjob will suffer....

When I began painting my second scoot (yes I'm still in the process), taking off the paint in places revealed very poor surface preparation as the painter was obviously unable to reach the area in question!!!

This is the main reason that I decided to paint my second scooter myself... but I wouldn't suggest anyone try and do this... it really is a big job (Rae07 will likely affirm this!)

sharpey > lunchbreak? next month's projects may have to be put on hold...

probably just ask for a through washing of my carbs, enging n exhaust...n rust removal...

i really need to go to the shops with someone experienced so i know what qns to ask n what to look out for.....

anyways the paintjob thing is at least 6 mnths away...

oh, the pinasco kit requires porting?anything else?

thinking of making my scoot into a 225cc whiz...

possible to do it without replacing my current block n head?
