Hi guys, newbie here, got my TA200 around half a month already.

and i just cant stop thinking of 1 thing that always happens after i stopped my bike after a 10 minute or 30 minute or 2 hour rides. bike engine going = no sound. once off engine, can hear visible tick tick tick tick sounds from underneath like a ticking bomb. may i ask all seniors in phantom whether izzit normal ? dont have the pleasure to have another phantom stop beside me within these times.

and it kept me pondering with exitements.

Thanks Kalyan, glad to know that. its only when engine off then the bomb starts ticking.

Phantoms sure is 1 nice rides. although imma new rider and my friend scold me for getting one after i passed my licence. because of example smaller turning radius, harder to u-turn properly, turnings ned make sharper turns, etc that i dun understand. but my feeling , juz ride it and see how far we can together ^^

yet, when i went to bike shop, when i ride on it, we somehow linked spiritually and i unconsciously telling myself, this is it.(when im starting class 2B, i sworn Phantom's the last bike i wanna get - due to loud sounds for cruiser class)

had a new experience of almost falling from bike yesterday. following a car into parking with those manual cash carh in gantry, dropped my cash card slightly right side of my leg.

i went down right to grab it and next thing u know, bike is forcing down , whole palm and leg like yoga , pressing to floor to sustain the weights haahaa, used my pinky to little by little push the card back closer for easier collecting, n@beh, 1 thing i learnt is do not drop ur belongings, ANYWHERE.

sent to Doctor to have it checked dude.. ;-)

ya i shall do it tmr, just found out my rear light oso spoilt =S must be from the fall in mscp last week.

eo filled to required level???

anyway the timing chain might be gone due to low EO as that is actually to lubricate and protect the chain also, hence ur chain might have worn as a result...

haha i damn suaku, i dipped my stick, and it was damn clean. den i poured the whole bottle in (1litre). went over my fren's place den found out i pour until my bike has like 1.5 litre inside. now to slowly wait for the eo level to go down. or to drain it tmr =x

Posted

i did straighten it! i just forgot that there might still be some EO inside leftover. den i was thinking 'forum say 1 litre EO best. swee lar, this bottle of EO oso 1 litre. dun need measure liao just lup!' too excited to give my darling more juice.

1.5L is runnable but the engine will be slower to pick up and rather jerky due to high engine pressure. She will be hesitant to cruise at high speed too.

Recommend to drain a bit because the proper oil level does result in vastly improved performance from my short Phantom experience.

Hamster - the ticking is audible just about anytime the engine is running. It is most audible standing near the cylinder, or from the exhaust muzzle. Of course, all the roaring drowns most of it out. Timing chain/tensioner is probably the issue, I hope.

It does seem strange that the sound appeared when I reduced EO level to recommended 1L with dipstick level checks, and not before when it was 1.5 litres as put in by shop.

ok wat i can recommend is to get those EO thickener like STP dunno wat thing, looks like a soft drink can, pour 1/3 and keep the rest for the next EO change...as changing to a thicker viscosity EO helps to slow down the EO dripping rate on the parts they come into contact with...bikes running after 50k km are recommended to change to a thicker viscosity oil because of worn out parts....

its your exhaust pipe cooling down, dun believe try pour water onto the pipe and it'll tick even faster...

pouring 1.5L is the lazy way so that the EO will remain above the minimum level when u change EO, best is to pour 1.2L max and observe the EO level every 500km after crossing the 1000km mark...

the side effect of having more EO in the block is that as wat Kalyan mention, higher oil pressure buildups in block, hence the pressure will try to find a way out of the weakest or tiniest gap which is normally found at the gasket area between the top block and lower block assembly, if u notice there will be black stains, which means to say oil pressure has been leaking out from there in minuscule amounts...if u were to see black and SHINY stains, that means the gasket has given way and its time to change the gasket, but then again if u dun mind the dirty look and topping up of EO every now and then, its negligeble to ignore it, change it only when your doing top overhaul together as its pointless to fix a $20 thing which include labour fee will jump into $100+, as they need to down your block, hence the expensive labour fee

Hope this is clear enuff

seems that many newbies get more eo in their bike..

whether by con mech or sheer ignorance..

if you find that the the eo level is way above the requirements...

i will use a" shampoo"' PUMP TO REMOVE THE EXCESS...

that can be use for future top ups...

hope this helps u solve one simple problem especially with new bikers.

one note..if the eo suddenly starts to increase by itself...watchout TA150 owners or water cooled bikes..water/moisture somehow has entered your sump..

the other method is kopi or teh colored EO...

You didn't accidentally push the kill switch while cleaning your handlebars, did you?

I know it sounds stupid but if you normally don't use the kill switch it is easy to overlook...

Ah Koon was telling me one guy had his Phantom towed back once, only to find out a kid had played with the kill switch ...

Well since I'm new to owning a bike I mostly try not to auto-prank myself by forgetting to on the killswitch or forgetting to turn the fuel line back on :)

Apparently you can ride with the fuel line off... until the fuel in the plastic container thing runs out and you can only move at 10kph :)

Btw the plastic thing is a good way to tell if the idle setting is too high.

plastic container thing...?
