Oil Change

i love to DIY:) it just a 5-10mins job.

 

I noticed as I get older, it will take longer

i got faster with more experience:p actually it just opening a nut, let the oil drain and locking the nut. the part that take up most time is draining and house keeping.

 

to be more realistic, i should say it take 10-15mins:cheeky:

 

a few points i learn:

1) don't have to wait a good 10mins to drain those little droplets of oil. most oil should be out in a min or 2 especially when its warm. it doesn't make much different so save your time.

2) have the correct tools and material at hand. basic is a correct size spanner, fresh EO, rag, any material that act as drain pan, a bottle for used oil and don't forget your funnel:sian:

3) keep the area as clean as possible. it save time on house keeping as well as doesn't cause problem for others.

4) you do not need jerk and knock the spanner while tightening the bolt risking rounding or damaging the thread. there should be o ring or some sort of gasket on the bolt so hand tighten will be more then enough.

5) dispose the used oil properly. remember to wrap it carefully as most engine oil bottle will leak. trust me, it not fun to have your box dirty by used engine oil:cry:

30 mins? Wah so long ar? Mine took only 15mins only cause mine is a Naked bike. No clothes to remove. Hehe. That is one thing I like abt Naked bikes but this is personal preference.

I got to remove the fairing to access the oil filter. No choice for me. Otherwise will be faster without the filter change. But it can faster lah. I just like to take my time, since no rush also.

Bring to most bike/car shops, they should be happy to get rid of it for you.

 

Spoke to the fella selling amsoil, mxtradings. the oil drum outside his shop, oil recycling company will pay HIM when it's full and they come to collect.

if the engine oil has been in the bike for more than 6months. but has only clocked 3.8k km. do you think its wise to wait till it hits 5k km or just change immediately?

recommendtion...eo should be changed at its mfg recccomendation...in km..or 6 months whichever is earlier...its your call..

yes. change within 6 months or risk metal pitting, corrosion, oil turn acidic from soot or total thermal melt down!!!

 

nay... you will just lose 10mins of the engine life:cheeky:

 

most modern oil is robust enough for long life. the truth is it not easy to reduce the TBN to level that is worthy to be notice. in the states, it is very common for motorcycle to have yearly change after winter or even longer. lots of UOA out there to prove the point.

 

don't have to lose sleep over it. do what make you feel better.

You can dispose it in any bike/car workshop. They willing to collect for free. They workshop can sell the old engine oil for $50/barrel. Each barrel is about 200litre.

any normal would do..can drop by any workshop like unique at kaki bukit they have packages for EO change and including spark plug change too..as cheap as 12$ as expensive as 50 over dollar..they would recommend you and wont chop you de..

Hi, I came across an item called liquivac. Supposedly it sucks oil from the dipstick side and you can pour in the fresh oil after that. You can google it if interested. But its not very cheap thou.
