Hi all, glad to stumble on this forum. Great source of info and cool stuff. A little history - i had my class 2A for the past 14 years but never actually bought a 2A bike, but kept my 2B 125 bike till 1999 before it was sold. It has actually been 10 years since i last rode and own a bike (scooter rental in Phuket doesn't count). Recently got bitten by teh bug to get a bike and was seriously eyeing the DRZ400SM - seems like a real good bike. However, i am also keen to persue my class 2... and thereafter get a Ducati or BMW or something along the likes (for keeps of course). Hence the 2A nike idea is shelved for now...

Question is i am not particularly confident of taking the lesson after 10 years. Not even sure if i can remember to put which leg down at the lights (is it left?)... Also how tough is it these days to get a class 2? What should i be concerned about with the lessons/tests? Where would it be easiest to pass? :p How long will the process usually (i use usually assuing that i dun act up like a dumb ass during lessons or test) take? Are they lenient on old 'timers'?

Some useful and practical advice would be cool - especially for someone off the throttle for a long while. Look forwrad to being part of the community again. Thanks~!

don't know about class 2...but i am an old-timer in the sense that i've driven for the last 22 years and only this year decided to take my class 2b having absolutely zero riding experience and the course in SSDC was simple and well structured, and was easy to pass through. i'm guessing class 2 bike handling will be more challenging but i don't think it will be that tough for you :-)

all the best!

No problem. Many people take their 2A and 2 after many years. The instructors will go through the rules with you, and if they don't, you can always ask them after class! The lessons tend to be very condensed so expect to repeat them a few times.

I suggest you grab an el-cheapo 2A bike and get some road practice first. Grab your confidence and familiarity back before you proceed with the big guns.

Thanks for your replies and encouragement. I am seriously hooked - think i might just go down to register myself after work for lessons. Sold off my helmets now need to go get one... any advice where i can get good quality ones are good prices?

Initially i had that idea but am unsure what bikes would fall into the category - u see the 2A bike will probably be only used for less than 3 months then sold again - i dun wanna bear the brunt of the depreciation and insurance cost. Any idea what bike i can get? :)

The initial idea is to get a street fighter and keep it long term.

i think a good option would be to get a 2nd hand 2a bike which is easy to sell.. for eg, super4.

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

Well, you could go for a really old Super 4. Those things can't depreciate anymore than they already have.

The S4 is heavy enough to simulate, or be close, to feel like a class 2 bike, of course sans the power.

Give it some thought. It'd be good to be familiar with a bike again before you hop onto a 150HP beast.

Yes, please go and register. And tell us how you're doing.

If you've got the "itch", the only way to scratch it is to actually take up and pass Class2, buy that Duke or Harley or whatever, and have your wife think you're bonkers.
