Okok. Goreng Pisang (GP).... Anyone eaten fresh GP fresh from the garden and fried immediately??!

When, i had this trip to the sub-urban/rural Lim Chu Kang/Sungei Buloh.

1st stop, 181 along Sungei Buloh to buy freshest fish I can find. When I reach the farm/place, the fish I look out for is the size and quality. Anyway, its all alive and splashing water in the pool.

Bought a few fish heads and catfishes. On my way back, we decided to make a stop at farmart. So took a right turn and head, meanwhile, we were chatting about this place where they build an air-con cafe with vegetable garden somewhere near here.

BINGO!!! I found Bollywood!! Got kinda of curious but went in to the garden ($2 per adult for entrance fees) look look here and there. Then I saw this very nicely build toilet in the middle of the farm!! (next day monday, it appear on newpaper as the Singapore 1st envoirmental friendly toilet!! Kaoz! :sian: )

The garden was about 2 hectare in size with good number of different vege/fruit/herbs plants. After a stroll in the garden, the weather wasnt that but it appear to be raining soon as headed back to the cafe where my car is park.

Outside the cafe, I saw 3 big brunches (I mean those really big brunch) of bananas!!! Inside the cafe, the smell of fried flour fills the room. I order 4 GP at $1 each. (Kinda of Ex$ compare to kopitiam at $0.40 each). But it definitely worthwhile!

Th GP was larger than the one sold at Kopitiam, Sweeter then any GP i taste and damn fresh, moist and crunchy on the outside. The secret is that they GROW THE bananas themselves and pluck fresh and fried.

While enjoying the GP, we decide to proceed to the car and move on to the next destination, Farmmart. For those who live in the west or Chua Chu Kang will definitely know this place. I usually frequent this place for prawn fishing.

When we reach Farmart, We stop by the kopitiam and rest for awhile after window shopping around. We order chicken wings, otah, satays, buns, roti john, fried rice and plenty of drinks. Next, a lady from the Chi Char appear and recommended "Pig Trotter Bee Hoon" at only $8. I kinda of like sceptical since all the foods We ordered arent nice at all.

So I order the Pig trotter Bee Hoon (PTBH) lor since my dad like Pig Trotter/bee hoon. The PTBH actually was serve Bery Fast! but I was bery nice!!!

The bee hoon was fragrant, nice, moist with texture, the Pig Trotter was actually the canned type but the way they fried it make the whole dish tasty!!! Recommend since all people present including me gives a :thumb: . We were not that hungry when we order the PTBH because we have many other CIM foods like Chicken wings, satays, roti john etc but we still manage to finish the PTBH.

Fish head steamboat!! Balestier one very very good!! But only the first round of the soup. the second round onwards, they used the diluted chicken stock. No that nice liao. The fresh yam and cabbage is so yummy with the Garupa fish head! Price is fairly ok, compare to local kopitiam, abit exp$$ but cheaper then any resturant. We alway park at the carpark at HDB and walk to the stored. Opps the resturant, there is this Tau Sau Piah, also very nice.

Just when to Carl's jr last week friday. For burger and beef patty lover, its a definiely must must try burger!!!

I try the Portellbelo double. It was sinful juicy and yummy!!! Thick thick double beef patty and plenty of vegies (Tomato, lettuce) plus large portion of portelbelo mushroom.

It is like imagining Burger King's Swiss Mushroom double but 2.5 the size of that!!! We eat the burger slowly and another good point of it is that drinks are free flow!!! Yahoo!!! They have this tea, put ice, lemon slices and sugar syrup and Wala!! Self make ice cold lemon tea!!

The fries are normal compare to other Fast food but the onion ring is slightly on the down side. They using real onion slices to make the onion rings but it tend to be too dry, Burger king's still better.

AFter the combo meal, i feeling i going to puke. One combo is enough to keep you away from burger for the next whole weeks. Come to think of it, i am hungry for the Carl Jr burger now, lolz...

Next burger on my list is Carl Jr Burger Superstar! I think that is abit bigger then my portelbelo burger. Yahoo, going to try that next! then after that will be western bacon superstar!!! Totally meat and bacon burger!!!

Each bite into the big burger, the patty's juice just flows into your mouth. It too not for the small mouthed or fainted hearted ppl. Bon appetit!

Just wanna intro a newly discovered bah chor mee.

1) It is to my liking even the portion is small. Toa Payoh Lor 5 Blk 72. Not the FC hor. Its the kopitiam which this particular stall can be seen from the back of the blk 72. Cost is 2.50 (small)/$4.00 (big)

Rating 4/5

Map

Nice cook noodle with nice soup. Pork and liver is fresh but portion is small. It good for light eater

2) Yishun central, Ave 5, blk 744. Same, fresh pork and liver but overly oily. Bigh portion for the price of $3.00 but the soup wasn't that nice (not sweet and thick enough). One good thing about this stall is that it opened 24hr.

map

Rating: 3.5/5

3) Woodland Plaza 888, Blk 888, Ah Boy Noodle. Once feature in th Channel 8 but was kinda of over rated. Price is around $3.50. Wanted to ask for pork chop noodle , they say no more. Tried the normal Bah Chor Mee $3.50, wasn't that fantastic at all. Like I said, over rated. Soup is the lousiest among the 3, pork is also fresh (that one important that is common), noodle are well and abit under cook. Good point is that it also open 24hr.

map

Rate: 3/5

4) Long lost 4.5/5 Bah Chor Mee. Stall closed already. I miss the stall.

Anyway, I have heard in the early 90s, there is a stall in Geylang Bahru which sells the BEST HOKKIEN MEE. My worst foods critics also says that she only likes that hokkien mee. (Practically, that is the only she said NICE in her lifetime). The stall has been closed down since 90s and disappear for more than 10yrs. A long lost BEST SINGAPORE HOKKIEN mee.

I always hope that Makan: Lost and Found will find that place but not lor, All they found are the place when I also know and been to. Its good lah but I really wish to find this stall or this hokkien mee again.

Why I so determine to find this stall? I just wanted to say this old grandmother to says that "Yummy, very NICE! :thumb: " again. She could only tell me that this legendary hokkien mee she remembered was the best and that sparks me the quest to hunt for the best hokkien mee.

Chomp Chomp, Bukit Timah, Bedok, yishun, Old Airport road all are 2nd rating based on her standards. Anyone her heard about this hokkien mee in old Geylang bahru, please provide info and help me to fulfil this old grandmother wish. (not my grandma btw) :cheeky:

Yoyo , hi everyone. I believe you had eaten your breakfast?

How you do ppl like about your tea or Dim Sum? Highly recommending one stall in Marine Parade in which sells very nice and cheap Dim Sum.

If you are comparing to the cost of Dim Sum to resturant like Yum Cha and Crystal Jade, this stall in Marine Parade wins it all due to low low price.

The average cost of Dim Sum at Marine Parade is $2 - $3.

Why is this dim sum so good? Not only it cheap, it very very nice in term of quality of ingredient use, freshness of ingredients and taste.

I had order a siew mai (all in small basket), chee cheong fun, lor mai kai, lobster puff and lastly, this fried beancurd (this dish always goes un notice but it awsome!).

Siew Mai - Pork is fresh and there is actually a hidden fresh whole prawn inside in every Siew Mai. Very NICE! :thumb:

Lor mai kai - chicken and rice is well balance and nice to fill up stomach.

Chee cheong fun - handmade chee cheong fun with filling eg. prawn and BBQ pork.

Lobster puff - Its kinda like fried prawn dumpling BUT!!! there is really a nice piece of lobster meat inside each puff and the puffs are being fried to near perfection of crispiness and sweetness.

Fried Beancurd - recommended by the stall itself. I notice none of the ppl Q up with me order that but i need to try. Beancurd was SUPERB! It is call Yong Tau Hu beancurd. The whole of beancurd was fried to crispiness and top is cover with fish cake. The surprise is still not all yet to come. The sauce is just nice, not too salt, good flavouring. There is actually hidden a whole piece of prawn inside each beancurd!! The outside of beancurd is crisp and fragrant, the fish cake is fresh and a surprise surprise on a fresh prawn which is heavenly.

Even thou both of us was so full to eat everything, we still couldn't resist the beancurd!!! :thumb:

Located here at Marine Parade Map

Last Wed, Just been to the newly renovated Newton circle. Could anyone tell me any good and cheap BBq fish there. Its seem all so Ex$$ and all the regular stall i had eaten are all reshuffle and not knowing where are they now.

I know Chomp Chomp had nice BBQ fish, so does east coast. But Newton was kinda let down for me. Any good recommendation for Newton?

Make you drip saliver more!!!

Next! Japanese Buffet! Kuishinbo!

Yummy! Beware, not for the weak heart and please book via calling in advance if not you will have to wait and see all ppl eating and enjoying their meals.

Oh Yeah!!! I think Wed have ladies night whereby 2nd lady goes for 1/2 price while on thursday couple night costing $60 per couple.

Dinner at Kuishibo - Wonderful experience for couple or big eater! Die Die must try buffet compare to Suki/sakura etc.

Highlight will be

1) Terppanyaki Beef!! Beef fresh and juicy. Cook on the outside, sweet and juicy on the inside. I pass by a table of a few really big guys, I saw their plates. Huge plate of Terppanyahi Beef piling up like a mountain, that was when I decide to order a portion for myself. Sweet!

2) Seafood paper steamboat, traditional japanese steamboat, 3-4 type to chose from. Very nice in term of taste and freshness but abit over too salty for me if you wait for long time. (Too bz eating other stuffs) The soup get thicker as it get cold, evaporated water vapour mah.

3) Snow Crab!!! YUMMY! My fren never know that crab can taste so sweet when cold?! Yup, the snow crab leg stick take skill to extract the meat of the hard shell. It takes even more skills to get the meat in whole nice piece (I can do it! :cheeky: ) anyway, out of 10 crab stick I eat, i found 1-2 piece of crab is under cook and no fresh but anyway, majority is good.

4) Tempura! All fried stuff may need the sauce to actually really enhance the taste alot.

The rest, you explore the resturant yourself. I dun Want to spoil the surprise by saying too much but just a few advises:

1) Please make your booking b4 you go or you go early for dinner

2) Go on week day if you feel pinch of your $$$. Certain days have different promotion.

3) While eating at resturant, when you hear the PA system singing "Kuishinbo, Kuishinbo, Blah blah....." Get ready to Q up for lobster or ice cream or cotton candy of special treats!

4) nothing else but definitely must try!!! :thumb:

Updates on FOOD FOOD! Yummy!!

2 places i want to recommend

CRABs!!!

Map

I spend about $300 for 6pax. I think the $$$ well spend because of the food!

1) Abalone - usual abalone, nice sauce and nice vegetable (Bei Leng).

2) Crispy chicken chop

3) Sea cucumber with vege

4) Prawn in herbal, Good!!!

5) Cant remember

6) Best and highlight of the day!!! 2 big female crabs with plenty of crab roe in chilli sauce. Chilli crab! It has been a long time since i eaten so nice and wonderful and feeling so fulfil and dun mind spending $300.00 for the dinner.

The crab roe was exceptionally large in portion and filling up all the chilli with roe. The chilli wasn't red but full of dotted orangy roe!. The head of crab is magificance, can be share among 2-3ppl for the amount of roe in the head. The body was cut into 6 portion each excluding the kongs. We have a very satisfy dinner overall. Well spend for $300.00

Next stop: Fisherman Village at ECP. Keep you all update next week!

Next I want to recommend is:

Bedok 85

I know many of us bikers knows about this place. This report is merely for newbies.

map

Just been there recently.

I order:

1) Orh Luak - Nice and crispy with nice and fresh oyster. Very rarely to eat such crispy Orh Luak because most of the Orh luak were tasty but not crispy. This particular one is crispy and fragrant to compensate the taste. I think less soup base was used but the crispy taste actually not bad for a change

2) Hokkien Mee - Same stall as above. One thing i notice the similarity of eastern and northern Hokkien mee is that 3-layer meat and lard is often used in their Mee. No many such kind of hokkien can be found in the west. I think the west is more health conscious but wtf, eastern, northern and central hokkien mee taste nicer due to the pork and lard which I LIKE!!

3) Bah Chor Mee (soup) - The usual famous bah chor mee soup. Nothing to shout about but taste is as good as it used to be. Got kinda of bored after eating so many times but still after a long while, it kinda nice also.

4) BBQ stingray - Best! in bedok market! There are about 2-3 stalls which sells BBQ seafood unlike Newton (1/3 STALLS Sells BBQ seafood). I particularly order from the most busiest stall with many newspaper cuttings. I order the plain BBQ stingray. The secret lies in their fresh seafood and CHILLI!!! The chilli got a latent effect where the spicyness will come to you later which in turn creating more business for the sugar cane stall!! The chilli got a just nice sour kick and the flavour actually got into the stingray. NICE! but need to wait quite long for about 1/2 hour.

I shall say the all food there taste nice. :lovestruck:

Stay tune for next week! Highlight: Chilli crab at ECP and Local teochew porridge of Bedok versus Ghim Moh

I had no idea why ppl give up on reading my gourmet thread.

ANyway, i did went to ECP and tried the chili Crab there. We were shopping on foot at parkway and thinking that the ECP seafood resturant will not be too far but I was WRONG!

We started walking from parkway after shopping at 9pm, we were very hungry then. Finally we come across Long Beach restuarant and I heard that the "No sign board" restuarant is much further away!

Too bad, we settle for Long Beach then since we are there and looking at the Sri Lanka Crab is also alive and kicking.

Looking thru the menus, nothing interest me, only the crab. The set meal for 2 suck! Got rice lah, vege, soup and small crab for 2 at $88+++.

Geez... My aim here is to eat crab, not other stuff even thou we are very hungry. Cut the story short: We order a large female crab (to be served last), a soup and vege plus 2 bowl of rice.

But the captain says they dun have female crab! WTH! lan Lan, have to eat lor. Ok , i demand a large crab for us and must be fresh! The captain look at us and seeing like:- can you 2 finish the crab?

After finish the other dishes, we hasten the crab to be served, they seem to forget about my CRAB!!!

My crab came in a whopping 1.5kg in weight, male and nice chili sauce.

The crab was nice althought the service is average ONLY! If not for the old auntie keep serving me tea and tissue, I will say that their service CRAP! Seeing me in short and T-shirt like cannot eat expensive food!!! They are dead wrong, I spend more then 50% of my income on good food alone.

My bill came out the total of $70. Imagine the bloody set meal ($68 - $88) only gives small regular crab while mine ala-carte order cost only at $70 nett after all the plus!

Whats the point of eating abalone and sharkfin if end of day, eat large portion of chili crab?

Wanna eat chinese seafood like abalone and sharkfin, then dun order crab. Such a waste. I mean, my aim to eat crab mah, why dun they have a set meal specially for crab lover. If i like the restuarant, I might order even more like prawn or abalone?

One thing for sure, they only have Male and depend on seasonal. Please ask before seat because once you seat, they will served you peanut, tea and towel. Too paiseh to get up and move on once they tell you they dun have female crab!

I will give 5.5/10 for this long beach restuarant, can still pass but alot of room to make up for. Btw, this particular branch at ECP is the long beach's headquarter.

Next ultimate aim will be ECP's No SIgnboard Restuarant!! Female Crab, here i come! FYI, We (2 of us) able to finish every single bit of the large 1.5kg crab!! Yummy, sweet and fresh.

some of my humble feedback on orr jian aka. oyster omelette, coz i tried from quite a few places... usually what i look for in a nice orr jian is that the flour mixture is nicely incorporated with the egg, not a mess of egg and burnt translucent starch... oysters that are fresh, no need to be HUGE!! but not tiny to the point that it's like boogers on a plate :giddy: and the chilli dip (i dun eat chilli but a bit really brings out the flavour of the dish)

i like the orr jian at bedok 85 food centre, juz nice... not yet perfect but good eating, jackson kopitiam is good too~ but the lady behind the wok must turn up the heat... orr jian has to be a tiny bit crispy to be savoury~ but the egg and starch combo is smooth... ECP food court serves a slighty burnt version that is really savoury, but i usually can't finish it coz it's too starchy and feels heaty in my throat... marina south kopitiam has a really excellent must try too~~

i've also tried the ones at bukit indah, perling and KL... the orr jian at bukit indah and perling is a very soft and moist version, nice but a tad too salty... the one at KL is super crispy and gives one the feeling of eating very nice oyster tempura~ it's a must try...

i've also tried the taiwanese version years back when there's a taiwan porridge food stall at marina south (long gone liaoz), very very nice... it not a mess of stuff on the plate (pardon the description) but neatly made into a round of crisp egg on the outside with a fluffy inside omelette with nice fresh oysters within~ please let me know where else i can find it coz i've been missing this lovely version...

juz my 0.0000002 cts
