i agree with arcfire...if u look at the long run...each and every part u replace or rectifier will last u a lifetime of pleasure in riding. But before u start enjoying...u have to go thru it slowly lor...old bike sure gt probs ...like mine...the whole electrical system is in a mess...slowing rectify lor...

well i understand that it's an old bike. but cannot be every ride she give me a new problem wan mah. first rear brake jammed, nevermind fix it up lor.

den a few days later coolant leak so tow to planet change new coolant pipe, on the same day i collected the bike back she start to leak petrol so towed to bike and scooter, discovered float needle corode lead to leaking carb. apollo told me the engine not very good, rectifier may be the next thing i need to change.

now i think clutch cable spoil. i haven rode her since the day i got her back, last night decided to go pump petrol from NTU to jurong west mobil. on the way there ok, after pumping tyre and petrol i cannot move off. kick to 1st gear only she died. tried until du lan i decided to push her to carpark, reach carpark i give her one last time she finally got to work and i could ride back to hall. today i face the same problem again. cannot kick to 1st gear. anyone can help? :help: :help:

it's just damn du lan the bike can gimme problems at every ride.

anyway i dun have class 2, if not Alex's bike is damn tempting lah, i love red and black. :cheeky: :cheeky: maybe gg back to economical 2B bikes.

could it be ur cdi problem?coz when i 1st bought the bike it onli manage to reach 190km..den it start bounce* back...

after i changed the cdi...wow...220km/h...

tt's really sad... and suay. guess the previous owners really bo chup this bike. u look at the logcard and see how many ownership transfer was made?

i think if possible, why not sell the parts seperately(if u have the effort and time to dismantle, or bring to some shop pay them some amount for them to dismantle for u, tt's wat i guess only)

u might not lose so much and at the same time u can make a lot of g4 rider happy.

The maths are your answers there.

Lose 1K or spend half of that to build up your ride.

Whichever ways, u WILL lose money. Only thing is, which one cause lesser pain and allows u time to play with.

U sell it now, u lose 1K, and u take out new bike, a new loan is incurred. That is a nightmare for a student if u ask me. At this point, I think to be without any bike loans to take care of is definitely HEAVENLY.

I am encountering problems on my new ride as well like you do. It's not easy as well even though I am earning my own keep now. Somethings can push to next month to settle, do so next month. Settle crucial one first. Unless if your engine requires overhaul, I think it's still worth some effort cos a GSXR still commands respect from its newer peers.

Let's take it slow and see how it goes.

To go back to a 2B bike is impossible once I rode this new boy.

hello peeps,

juz wanna ask.. if changing gear is hard (plus neutral), what could most likely be the cause?

basically its hard to shift up and down gears below 4~5 k rpm. If i rev up above it, shifting gear is done easier. Furthermore, the shift gear problem often comes after a while of riding. i.e initially during morning move off ok. but once bike gets hot, gear shift is hard (not sikly smooth lah)

could these be the causes?would like to know more b4 gg to the bike shop for their comments

1) clutch plates? -> which would also cause slow pickup for high rev

2) gear box? -> hope its not this, but is that possibly an issue? maybe worn out gears or something..

3) EO? -> i ruled this out coz EO juz changed

4) setting for idle rpm? -> read in the first few posts abt this . Someone said, after they changed the 'setting' it changed gear like silk. My question is "what setting?"

thanks!

Its better to think for a minute than to talk crap for an hour. Better talk crap for an hour than to keep quiet the whole day..

Basically, difficulty in shifting gears is related to :

1) EO - viscoscity rating might be an issue wad rating are you using now? too much engine oil may cause such a problem as well.

2) Clutch cable - tried adjusting the free play?

3) Clutch plates - usually characterized by moving of the bike while clutched in and in gear. Revving eases the changing of the gears but doesn't solve the root of the problem.

As for setting of the idling, i'm not too sure if it will affect but the usual idling is abt 1-1.5k

I'm oso the 8th owner of my current g4, it has never break down during my ownership except run till fuel tank empty. In fact its running better compare to the time when I first bought it, after I service and replace the worn parts.

I think your current problem is the side stand relay or the neutral swtich faulty, tt;s why the bike dies when you engage gear 1. Also you can start the bike after that.

I would have swap the farings with you if I did not sell away my ride.

I was the one who said it. Well when I first bought the bike, the gear shifting was already very smooth.

But after I play with the air/fuel mixture screw somehow it deterioate, engine becomes rough and very difficult to shift gear and to neutral.

I tune it back to 2.75 turns out and did carb syn,, the bike is running fine again. Engine very smooth and gear shifting back to normal.

Your problem might not be the same as mine. Btw I'm refering to the air/fuel mixture screw and not the throttle stop screw (which is used to adjust the idling speed)
