Bro,

I just got back from the workshop. Guess what, 1 of the conrod (is this the correct spelling) broke. Had to get the replacement for the whole crankshaft.

It will cost me less than $1500.

I have made the decision to repair my bike since I intend to keep it for the next 5 years. It's really not worth it, but I have no choice.

Pay for the repairs bit by bit..... had to beg for money.:(

whoa, bro, seriously not worth it. have you told them to start work on it yet?

think about it, avg age of a g4 is around 14 years? yup, you solved one problem now, but more are going to come up over the next year or two, unless you fixed them up earlier already.

maybe you should think twice, or wait for more bros here to give you their input

Ride safe

Vj

hi vj, i dont know how to say this without coming across as trying to promote my g4, haha.

but i'm going to give it a try anyway.

i ride to and from school/work, daily mileage around 45-50km.

i'm pretty happy with my g4, so far i haven't had any major problems with it, probably because of what was done with the engine. wear and tear is standard, that much you have to tolerate and understand.

your required speed is pretty standard, a g4 will fit the bill.

fc varies from g4 to g4, mine is around 18km/l, even though i ride it hard.

you're lucky, there're a bunch of g4's up for sale in the forums currently (one of them is mine), grab them while they last!

remember though that it's an old bike, so dont punish it like you would a new one.

and check with the mech if you suspect that something is wrong. pushing on could turn out to be a big mistake.

i'm going to be shameless and put the link to my ad here. i do encourage you to view as many as you can though, compare them and make an informed decision.

Bro, seriously, either

1> I fork out 3k and get a new bike

2> sell the bike to the bike shop back for scrap and carry on with installment which is more than 20 months

3> carry on with the repairs, pay my installment and ride it.

Pick a choice... I'm stupified and stumped.

hmm that's quite a dilemma, guess you got really unlucky with this time around.

and as i was telling vj in the earlier post, these machines are old, so dont push them too hard. its true they need to be revved hard once in a while, but dont keep the revs too high for a sustained period, the engine cant take the punishment.

just curious though, you bought the bike from a shop right, so how much did you pay for it? i seldom see g4's in shops..

I bought it for $2500 at Heng Motor Shop (Toh Guan East). It was a hard find, went around from shop to shop at Ubi, Kembangan, Bukit Merah and lastly Toh Guan.

It was a good bike actually. I managed to maintain 150km/h all the way to Kulai and back. Then I had an accident, slipped on oil slick at West Coast Highway roundabout near Pandan. Fell on right-side and the engine cover cracked. Had to replace it and some repair.

My guess is, either the mechanic which did the repair forgot to put engine oil, or put too little or my engine leak. By the way, the repair was done on November 2008.

Guess, I'm too unlucky!

ah, well just hope the bike behaves from now on and dont give any problems, haha.

Once the repairs are done, I'll have to ride it like a street bike. No more race-like stunts. Enough burning in my pocket.

haha bro, which shop would say their bike sucks?

there's a checklist of what to look out for when buying a 2nd hand bike in the used bikes section, here's the link

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129346

check out post number #5, i use it every single time.

if you finally decide to get it from the shop you mentioned, keep a clear mind , go down with the checklist and scrutinize the bike.

good luck.

haha, yes that's the way to go, just remember to open the throttle to the max once a while so the spark plugs dont get fouled.

btw guys, i'm considering stripping down my g4 and sell the various parts, coz i realised can fetch more than my selling price.

if anyone needs any parts let me know, and i'll get back to you if i finally decide to strip it.

here's a breakdown of the newer stuff. (the standard things are not listed)

- fully adjustable rear suspension (the kind with the nitrogen canister)

- serviced and rebuilt front forks

- sprockets & chain (less than 1000 clicks travelled)

- water pump

He is asking for $800 to do up the engine. Will you be there to see the engine makeover? If not, are you confident that he will do the makeover?

Just some pointers. I bought mine for $2500.

I still don't know when it is ready. Maybe when I have paid the full repair fees. Mech say it will take 2 - 3 weeks for repairs.

Not having the bike beside doesn't suck, but taking the MRT sure sucks. So full still want to force in, some selfish b*stards/retards still taking up space to read the stupid newspaper. When its full, understood already must give up space for people wat?:(

Boh pian leh, must suffer through these hard times. Work also got problem. Contract expires next month. Still hoping for the best.:dot:

I always go GP on weekdays, usually Monday and Wednesday/Thursday during lunch time. This time around, I will have to go slow. Must do running in.

I'm working at IBP. I can chio u if I'm going.:)

Where are u werking?

Definitely, I can try to join as long as it does not conflict with my schedules.

Currently my Tuesdays are filled. And weekends have to depend. I work part time at Geylang Serai market, perhaps you could organise a trip to Geylang market on weekend evenings for a makan session....:)

Evenings are usually not packed with people, and I finish work at 4-5pm.

well gotta say its fantastic, the handling of the g4 really better than most other bikes, and the tyres inspire confidence in the corners. now i know why your engine cover can kena scratch, haha.

engine wise, as you promised, no problems at all. only the radiator hose and water pump i had to change, because of wear and tear, then some minor wiring problems which i fixed up.

other than those minor things, its all good!

as for me, i'm doing ok la, life quite boring.

how, free for kopi or not? if got outing i call you? want to see how beautiful your k8 now, haha
