which mean if i use mineral oil , i cannot go above rpm 6 ? hmm so the first time when i get my bike , inside is acutally filled with mineral oil by yamaha ?

Hi there, u may rev up to any RPM if u use mineral oil however u have to change the oil more frequently as it degrades faster due to the extreme heat. When engine oil degrades, it loses its lubrication capabilities thus will damage yr components.

Hi there, after the successful assembly of engine from the factory line, a mixture of lubrication known as engine oil will be pour into the engine. This mixture is stated as semi synthetic engine oil. Brand is classified. After the successful dyno run of the engine, the engine oil was vacuum out and only a bit of mist of mineral oil based lubrication will be blast into the engine compartment to prevent rust. These engines will be fix to the bike and then to the showrooms.

I like add on to the "u may rev up to any RPM if u use mineral oil..." statement.

This can be done across all kinda of engine oil. The point is, do be caution about situation like, red-lining your engine during running-in process, under rev when you're going up hill etc.

Rev according to situation appropriately and there is not one set textbook answer as to at what point your rev must be at different riding stages. It comes with experience and so do watch out for signs like

1) bike unable to climb up in terms of RPM despite you milking the hell out of the throttle

2) violent shaking on the throttle

3) very loud feedback from the engine

and many more.

Stressing the engine is the last thing you wanna do. Not that you cant, but you've got alot of work to do to care for the bike in general. Much like you apply aloe vera to yourself after one full day of soaking the sun. :)

Adding on to the above, the red line in our RPM meter means that our bikes had reached its limits and will still run smoothly with a higher heat and workload. A good load of lubricating oil and coolant are much needed if running under these conditions. For a stock engine with all the torque in screws and mountings, you will have a safe red line run however if you ever removed your engine compartments and hand re-tightening the screws and mountings, its not safe to run within the red line as extreme vibrations will loosen those hand tightening mountings.

For a safe ride, try not to cross the red lines. Follow the speed guide and you will have ample time to break in case of emergency. :)

thanks u very much for the info . i also realised just now when my bike was moving at a constant 20 to 30 for a period of 20 mins it get very hot in the inside . r15 not suitable to go on slow ? i go at a constant rpm3 low high

All motorbikes including R15 are design to run from 1km/h to the maximum speed. In general, compared to the other brands, Yamaha engines produce a slightly higher temperature. In addition,if u are running slow, the speed is not enough to flow strong airflow into the radiator, thus the radiator fan kicks in to produce air flow as the temperature raise. However, do check your coolant reservoir and also inside the coolant. Most of the time, it had dried up thus the heat is greater!

Hi, I just found this forum recently. I'm using R15 in Sydney. Got a problem with the fuel pump. Is anyone know if R15 v1 fuel pump is the same as yamaha v-ixion (indonesian bike) part number 3C1/PT.CHAO LONG CO.,LTD ? Mine is just suddenly died. And they quote me with staggering AU$450 (SGD 580) for that!

Thanks for all the really helpful advices!

Can't wait to get my hands on it soon! Haha

Haha I just saw a female saf rider on a red r15, entering pasar labar camp just 30mins ago! Damn hot!

hey guys, anyone has this problem before?

the engine light (orange icon above speedometer) lit up halfway thru my journey. managed to stop safely, off engine, and switched off ignition (realized it was a bad move). ): switched on the ignition, and i get blinking engine icon. unable to start bike. managed to push start after some 30mins, engine icon doesn't light up anymore. rode for abt 40mins home, and bike seem to be back to normal. tried starting several times, all seem well.

what could be the reason? was riding in very heavy traffic and rain.

ps: pardon my lack of technical knowledge in the very longwinded post. :/

i guess I GUESS , must be the rain that make u unnotice of the raising temp and at the same time the engine is getting hot cus of the jam . best way is to go slow but constant rpm through the jam that what i try to practice .

That light is the engine trouble light.

Seems like the problem persist under raining condition?

I suspect that your machine is running in low on engine oil or coolant or your fuel sensor is faulty.

Pretty much I guess you need to open up the engine and to see what was really wrong. Magnetic coil can also be one of the factor. The skies the limit.

The last thing you want it that your piston is having some problem.

Yes, it used the same machine parts. And no, it shouldnt cost that much.

A quick search on the online database and it will cost you some 62.944 to 94.14 excluding import and taxes. I'll say you would be expect it anywhere below 100 AU$.

I have mine change out for a good S$180, some 141 aussie dollars.

I don't like to go between vehicles, plus was raining and the white lines will be slippery. :/ wasn't really moving much at all. road works along upper cross street and terrible jam all the way. when I start moving off, the light goes off. the light comes on when stationary.

it's the first time it happened. lol hopefully the last. just changed engine oil, travelled less than 1k. if its the other reasons, coolant, magnetic coil or piston, will I be able to cont riding after that? as in after I got home, the bike seems normal. restarted the bike several times. all okay.

Hmm... Then I like to believe that its your spark plug cable then. :)

Go have it check to see is it that water sip into it. I guess everything else is normal then.

Thanks! I might just wait till I going there in couple of weeks. Coz last couple of days the bike suddenly stalled and won't start at all in the middle of the road after I ride it about 5KM. (Air temp 40C ) So I got it towed to the bike shop. Yesterday I called them. They said nothing wrong with the bike. They can start it normally (weird). They just said that this particular bike can't use 98octane fuel (I use shell v-power all time)

are there many riding r15 there ?

Not much. Everyone prefers litre bike here. I still prefer this R15 coz it's economic and I'm only use it on CBD (speed limit 50).

so to speak, I just need to get the cable / spark plug replaced? will get it down to the workshop. thanks a lot!! :)

I'm just guessing it might be that. One of the way is to have it properly inserted back again. Else it will be a good excuse to change to a better one from NGK or Spitfire etc. and it will so call increase your voltage to your spark plug.

I don't think you need to change your cable though unless it really cannot prevent water from going into it.

I'd slap a "nonsense" to your mechanic back in Aussie about our bike not being able to take in RON98 furl :p

I've used 95, 97 and 98 rating. So far so good. As long as it's not leaded it will be fine.

And people here is Singapore are complaining workshops here are a killer.. haha! Yay, come on over and get the parts and enjoy the sunny/ humid weather. We could even meet for a drink or 2 to talk more about bike and life. Ride safe!

Well. All ppl here says v-power is not really good. Too much additive. Better get 98 caltex or BP Ultimate. (Based on riders here).

Aussie bike shop are ripping our money. Normal service cost me $350. (Oil and filter included). So I always do it my own. Nothing much to do on this R15.

I'm going to singapore in 2 weeks XD. But only for 3 days >

I see. noted with thanks! hopefully it's just the spark plug and not major issue. *phew*

appreciate all the help and advice! (:
