so u mean 20w-50 will be more suitable for our weather condition ? what about 15w-40 ?

i seen more of motul 15w-40 ,it seem like many shop are selling that grade. does it have any huge difference with 20w-40 ?

The viscosity and the temperature range. Normally if you use lower weight, its "thinner" and lose it's "slippery" effect fast. But of cause depends on your engine type, piston size and so on and so forth. You can even use car's 0w-50 if you like.. But the thing is our engine is a higher rev engine hence you need thick viscosity.

The last digit is the temperature at operation. Since I said here is hot and humid.. a higher operating temperature would allow optimum performance of the oil without causing it to thin too fast.

So.. you will see more 15-40, 10-40 such here in SG. Engine oil in any form will NEVER harm your engine.. You can even use cooking oil if you like. It's just lubricating and prevention of rust (from air circulating within) and prevention of wear and tear.

thanks for clearing my doubt =)

Kokwei: If you are riding a stock R15,the acceptable range is 20w40. As mentioned by Foxin, you can use almost any lubricant but dont use cooking oil !! haha however the engineering design will endure wear and tear better if u use 20w-40. As we cant prevent wear and tear, we can at least minimize it. Using 10w-40 does not provide enough protection for our stock engine pinions and gears. Additional info for you, example 10w-40: 10w means the lowest temperature it can flow and operate and 40 means the viscosity of the engine oil,the higher the number, the thicker. Get it bro?

yeah .. thanks ,very informative !! the problem is why there so little shop selling 20w-40 . is it because not much of the demand ? anyway i will go down to the shop u always goes to for buying oil . even motul dont have 20w-40 . what brand have that sae ?

should have a 1000cc honda cub .. 1000cc weight 100kg . super acceleration !!

Why so much trouble and hassle?

Just plant any 999cc or 1198cc engine(full alloy so engine weights like what? 5kg?!) and oil reserve onto a mountain bike la. Don't even need 100kg, barely 40kg wet weight. Rocket launching capability!

Then those motorized wheelchair car? Mount onto them also! Become instant cam-am spyder.. weight barely 100kg and 4wheels! Compared to the 300over kg cam-am.

Cheap! Thrill! YOLO! YAY!
