Hiya folks.

Gotta ask the more experienced riders a quick question here. I haven't been riding very long (obviously) since I just got my license 23 July and my bike 27 July. But I've been riding the CG125s at SSDC many many times, and since I got my own bike, been riding everyday (at least an hour each time).

I've been experiencing this tingling feeling in my fingers after my rides (on my TW200) that I never experienced before on the CG125s. I'm wondering if this is due to the vibrations from the TW engine (which is more than the CG125s), or is it due to my gloves (since I'm using a different pair now).

Can those who are riding thumpers let me know if you folks experience similar tingling sensations after your rides? It doesn't last long (usually about 15mins) but it is rather irritating to feel like everything has a spring inside...hahaha!

Hope to hear your views.

Yups its the engine vibrations that gets transfered to your handlebars. Try changing to a heavier balancers and gel type grips to soften the vibrations. If the vibrations are bad, you may wanna check/service the engine. I believe yours is a 2nd hand rite? I do not think the vibs can be that bad.

it could also be due to being on the road

the traffic and riding conditions are a little more tense than being at SSDC

and unknowingly we may also grip a little harder than we realise and would like to

remember to have a relaxed grip

initially when i started being on the road in the first few weeks after i passed last year i would always get the numbness + pins & needles, coz it is very stressful for a noob rider on the KJE to Tuas at 7:30am... haha

also you may wanna try "rolling" or "rocking" your palm over your throttle without losing grip of it that way you also allow blood flow around your palm

if traffic is clear and you're cruising along - MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THAT THEY'RE NO VEHICLES AROUND + BEHIND YOU - you could even let go (after clutching in) for a second or two just to wriggle your fingers quickly before getting back on the throttle :)

hiya! thanks for the responses. my bike does not have balancers at the moment...and there is a set of progrips on them. i didn't realize the vibration is that much...

...oh...i tried on my old gloves today (CLC cheap ones) and the numbness was gone. i think my gloves may be the major culprit here :-( time to shop for a better fitting glove!!

Bro. I've been having pins and needles since i was in primary school till occasionally till now. Haha. But when riding without gloves, my arm feels numb and aching. Have you tried wearing gloves? Because i always try to wear gloves when riding my YBR. The vibration is horrible.

My gloves are "ketuk" gloves. I bought for $17 dollars at BALONG MOTOR TRADING CO. It has "P0ser 46" on them. Very colourful, very eye catching but very comfortable and lasting. My friends always give me "the look" when they see my gloves. Once at 2am in the morning my friends' in a car recognised me by my gloves. Haha.

Anyway, the gloves are very spongy and of noticebly high quality and there will be alot of a difference when i dont use it. You should try to get thicker gloves but not too thick. Hell, i love the "P0ser 46" ketuk gloves that i bought myself a second pair!

UPDATE

Well...now that a few more days have passed and more riding. I realized that while the gloves did contribute to the feeling, the biggest factor as somebody wisely pointed out was the vibrations and the length of the ride. I've tried using both pair of gloves for short (1hr) and have the same feeling of pins and needles.

Most interestingly, I've been trying to grip really light in my last 2 long rides and the feeling has reduced...even with my Motoport gloves. This is welcome relief because maybe there is hope afterall!

Bro. Sometimes ah, the solution is more obvious than you think. When i got my YBR, it came with APEK GPR handgrips (931025). Although it was GPR, really look like APEK. Like the same grip like bicycle. Then i went to change it to a GPR Enduro MX (320326 MX), then the aching and numb feeling almost totally gone! Got try changing those spongey gell like handgrip? So cheap only. Wah, then that time my friend spark handgrip, wah the feeling so nice. I cannot stop grabbing it. Like soft on the outside, but slightly harder on the inside. I think you give girl hold they even more... ;)

I feel numbness on my thicker leather gloves compared to the 'cloth' mechanic type I use in SSDC. Take away the sensitvity at the throttle, but I feel it's better to hit the tarmac with the thick leather. I embrace your philosophy too, gear for the fall. Halfway only on ATGATT though.

Such an... exciting... and.... up-lifting experience... where can I get those? Any particular brand or all brands carry such soft on outside, hard on inside grips. You inspired me to post on sales request section.

Anyone can ride a bike. Being a biker, is a state of mind.

Try chong aik ah. For me i live east side, so i went to shops in the east. In my opinion, shops in the east got friedlier sales persons. I went to Bukit Merah they are all like so busy.

But you can slowly try chong aik. I got my GPR grips at BALONG MOTOR TRADING CO. With totally expensive chrome balancers for $17. Same place where i got my gloves. Ketuk sia. I remember i spent quite some time "feeling" the handgrips. And i was lucky enough to be given lessons by my colleagues. They actually took me down to my workplace car park and describe to me all the various handgrips. But dont get those kind where its like sponge throughout. It started to degrade and become sticky, the sponge got peeled off and stuff.

End of the day, it really depends on what you like to touch. For me, since my bike pickup is horrible, i got myself a small radius GPR Enduro MX grip. Give my YBR a sporty look and not so apek. Must match also ah. Imagine YBR with acerbis grip and grip protector or guard ow whatevery you call it. Change to off-road tyres, jack up the suspension. Then like that shoik. Look nice but cannot move.

If you abit "senget" or sideways, you can also get the handgrip soft on outside, harder on inside gel type. The feeling is weird yet pleasurable. Its like you "dont understand the feel" but you dont care because it feels so nice. :hungry:

Perhaps ur gloves are too tight and this limits the blood circulation? Or it does not allow your hands to "breathe" resulting in poor blood circulation which in turns makes your hand feels numb? Hmm...

Guys you know how much to repair box? The catch near the pillion seat broke off.

Got myself a set of BMW grips and installed them today. Looks good and feels good on my simple test ride around the car park. Won't have time to ride my bike long enough to give a report on whether these grips reduces the numbness...will update after I get a chance to take a longer ride.

Meanwhile, here's the thread on how I installed the grips.
