i am using my ear buds as plugs by putting them on and not switching on music. works great! sometimes i put on music softly and its even better...but if put music a little louder surely will not hear any outside noise which i think is dangerous. i am using the shure earbuds...think was ec3 or something like that. its an alternative lah.

The best options are the foam disposable ones. They have sound attenuation up to 32db. I like the E.A.R classic as they tend not to slide out of the ear as much as the tapered ones from 3M.. I buy in bulk (200 pcs /box) from Chee Fatt Co. They carry many other plugs and top brand tools. They have shifted to Tanjong Penjuru but you can order your stuff and collect at their old outlet at 18 Sam Leong Rd.

Same same bro, i also got myself a box of 200pcs E.A.R ear plug.

Is very good for long ride too cos it's made of foam so it would'nt hurt that much when use for long hrs.

Some i give/sell to friends cos 200pcs is too many.

As for the 3M foam plug it have to depend la....cos i've small ear hole so no matter how i twist/press it, it just would'nt fix in.

Yes i'd say the foam disposable ones are probably your best bet! Very very effective too.. Can look at guardian, they shld have a lot too!

If you want to reduce the noise level by a lot/don't want to use disposable ones, then get a pair of molded ones. They reduce sound by a lot, but from what i remember they're not cheap. Personally, i use the disposable ones during live firing (and it's LOUDD!!!), and they work pretty well!

200 bucks for a pair of bluetooth headsets.. worth it bo?

I took one recommended by webbikeworld, the sound isolation is pretty great, even while traveling over 200km/hr the sound still remain rather comfortable.. Don't expect it to mute everything though, haha. I'm pretty sure there's no earplug that can do that. Even custom molded ones wouldn't do that, haha.

i bought the $2 type from a hardware shop. there are 2 types, one the plastic is a bit hard, another type it is very very soft, very comfortable. it is washable so can be reused. the great thing is that there is a string attached to/connecting the 2 ear buds.

hi folks. i usually just wear my in-ear-phones (without plugging into any music) when i want to have a quieter ride. but it can get a little uncomfortable sometimes. so i went to get a pair of ear plugs today at the Guardian Pharmacy.

I like foam ear plugs (I also use the foam inserts for my in-ear-phones) because they are comfortable and give a good fit. These set of plugs only cost me S$1.55 and worked really well when I tried them out for my ride just now.

I know the box looks a little cheapo but the plugs work great. Now I have another alternative when I want a quieter ride without music :)

A little lazy to photograph the other side of the box. So if you go just look for a small yellow box :)

The box looks expensive! I'm actually more attracted to the box than the plugs... Its so.. Yellow... and Cube... Pweety...

Anyway, if you guys wear earplugs, how to hear what is happening on the road?

the ear plugs only reduce sounds by 29db so you can still hear. furthermore, it is only at 29db on a small part of the frequency range. the main thing is wind and engine noise is reduced dramatically so riding is way more comfortable :)

the box looks pretty ah? go get lah...so cheap only. by the way...there are 2 other models at guardian...both only reduce sound by 21/22 dbs.

i got 3m ear plug from army accessories shop, west mall (bukit batok). $2.20.

same as scubasimon's, only orange.

i must say they are very good. reduce all the whirling (wind) sound and reduce drastically the booming sound from big vehicles/ own engine - still can hear.

wearing ear plugs did not impair my hearing, only reduced the unnecessary noise. dunno how to describe, just buy a pair to try, if u think too quiet, then dun wear?

basically, the reduction of sound pressure levels (measured in decibels) will protect your ears. if you were to look at the sounds you hear while riding, a very high proportion of it is from the wind and your own motorcycle. most importantly, these sounds are constantly there and they become "background noise". the danger about background noise is that they lower your hearing sensitivity (in other words, make you a little numb). by reducing the overall sound level, you basically take away a lot of the "background noise". by doing that, you can hear other non-background sounds (like horns, loud trucks that suddenly want to overtake you or cut into your lane) more clearly.

I posted yesterday but it seems like they haven't approved it yet so I'll give this a try here.

Do you guys know where I can get custom filtered motorcycle earplugs like

? I actually own a pair of Big Ear but I forgot to bring them here in Singapore. I'll be living in here for 6 months so please help me out with this.
