Maxima Chain Guard

Maxima Chain Wax

Is both the same...? Care to explain on usage?

Is GearOil and EO the same?

i onli remember that the diff between chain guard and chain wax is the visocity of the lube.. one will flow easier compare to the other one.. but i forget which is which..

Gear oil is not the same as engine oil due to the diff in visocity..

but normally one go to bike shop, they named engine oil and gear oil as "engine oil".

:)

so how we know its time to change chain?

mine is already brown & like got rust but bike shop say still can use ...

i scare lor ... bike shop don't want my money ...

hav to see where the rust is form..

time to change the chain when:

1) the chain tension is too loose even thou the tightening of the chain is at the max.

2) the chain was strain uneven, tension varies across the chain..(as u turn the rear wheel, the tension varies from tight to loose)

3) the chain look like saw rather than straight line.. the link there is damaged, cannot rotate properly..

4) for o-rings or x-rings, the seal is damage.. if even thou still can use, but that particular link work as a normal chain

:)

Have used both before, Chain Guard and Chain wax. Chain guard makes the chain more smooth and queiter but it is not as fling resistant as Chain wax. Chain Wax attract less dirt and grime.. Chain Wax feels smooth once chain is warm.. All depends on what u like, but i prefer Chain Wax...

Spray wd40 is to allow it to clean off the dirt is it?

After drying liao, we should then use the chain lube?

yup the wd40 acts as a degreaser to remove the dirty lube/wax or watever is on the chain..

after that pls apply a coat of lube.

Here's my way of cleaning:

Things needed: A bottle of engine degreasser, WD40, chainlube/wax of any brand.

1) Spray the degreasser on the chain and sprockets generously and spin the back wheel a few times. Then let it works for 5-10mins. (You'll see all the dirt, sand and oil residue drip like nobody business)

2) Wash over the chain with water thoroughly to remove any excess dirt & degreasser.

4) Wipe the chain dry and spray WD40 to remove excess water stuck in between the x-o ring and let it set for 10-15mins.

5) Spray chainlube/wax generously from the inside of the chain followed by the outside.

Spin the rear wheel to make sure the lube/wax sits nicely on the chain.

6) Wipe off excess lubes/wax and dont the ride the bike for at least half a day.

Results: Shiny chains and sprockets. Lube/wax does not splatter all over the rims.

Rarely need to tighten chain & last but not least save money on chain and sprockets wear and tear.

I did this twice a month...

Just my 2 cents...

Cheers!!!

yeah...damn lousy task...

dirty and backbreaking...for those with lousy back and knees.

yeah have diy with the self cleaning and oiling device...works great though..

now the chain oiler diy is over..yeah search the web..the $20 type sounded promising....

not a good idea to use wd40 as a chain lubricant..this is a degrease not a lubricant..

you will end up with with a very dry chain..rusty even..replacing the expensive chains/sprockets....wd40 as lub is a no no no.:faint:

i use eo..cheap an good for my chain oiler...one 2ml application is good for at least 200km...

but i applied it for every ride...ks mah..resulting in a clean and oily an shiny chain..

i use the cheapest eo..RM 8../L Castrol from carrefour JB..

1L at 2ml per application ...good for 500 application..

at 200km per application , my 1 L cheapo EO costing S$3.2 can last me 10000km...hahah

the cost is S$3.2/10,000km= 32 cts/1000km..or .032 cts/km..( not even point one cent)

can you beat that..effort is 2 sec per ride, the chain is clean i dont even bother to clean it..every month a so just spend not more than 2minutes to wipe chain with news paper will do,

good luck to all those who still have no idea that chain needs to be cleaned and oiled , as well as those who spend lots of time and effort to get it done properly and at the same time spend $$$$$ for those xxxx sprays.

My chain has a lot of grime and my sidestand has it also... My rear spocket the edges now got hard grime. What solution that can clean off all grime.

Degreaser and WD40 is expensive.

Thought of using diesel to clean it off...

... then wash with water then spray chainwax/chainlube.

What do u tink?

Aniway, where should i place the jack to lift the bike...? Currently using my uncle scissors car jack.

diesel will do the job..

after u wash wif water, spray chainwax/chainlube correctly..

wrong application will give no lube effect on the chain.

search the thread to understand the correct way of lubing the chain..

as for the jack location, the jack is place under the middle section of the whole exhuast system(mid pipe)..

be careful not to exert any unnecessary pressure on the fairings..
