I SUPPORT PROJET CONOCO HYDROCLEAR OIL

rxzdelux,

u read answer by Alex

I have couple of questions.

1. I downlaoded the oil pdf sheet from conoco website and read . It never specify how maximum mileage can be used. I normally change oil every 1700km?

Alex,] Normally oil company will follow OEM recommendations, and I believe Yamaha recommend oil change every 2000km, but still depends on your riding patent is consider light or severe

I.e if everyday ride through the crossway, get stuck in the traffic jam for 60 minutes per day,

=> 1 month accumulate to 26 hours of idling (assuming work 26days per month) . then you should change sooner. The reason when stuck in the jams, the odometer not clocking any mileage but engine still running further more 2 Wheeler engines are air-cooled engines unlike the passenger car engines which are cooled by a coolant. The Engines are effectively cooled by the air drag across the engines while the vehicle is in motion. The Engine operating temperatures exponentially shoots up when the vehicle speeds are reduced or the vehicle is stopped since the air drag drastically reduces under these conditions as encountered in a typical city operating conditions

Others example of severe conditions will be heavy loaded tricycle, dusty road condition.

But for riding only in Singapore, I don't think you will be subject to the above ;p. So it will be ok for you to do an oil change at 1700km.

2. If you say it is recommended by JASO MA , then what is the anti friction used?

Alex] Motorcycle use wet clutch mechanism and the same engine oil lubricates the engine, the wet clutch and the gears. So car Engine Oil oil with high Friction Modifier will lead to clutch slippage. That the reason why is important to make use the oil used in your motorcycle does meet JASO MA, which is formulated to take care of the higher temperature operating condition as well as have controlled friction characteristics to take care of the wet clutch requirement. At the same time it should have reduced friction characteristics as required by the Engines & gears.

Thanks

Hi Guys....

It's been a long time since I last post my comments, I can see quite some new people here.... Hi everyone (again)....

about the timing chain, valve and tappet issue.... my bike now already running into 60,000km in 1 year 3 month. so far, so good. I got no problems with the timing chain, valve and tappet. I used to bring my bike for "TOP OVERHAUL" after every 4 month due to my heavy and "All-Time-Full-Throttle" usage.... you need to take care of the bike... at least know how it works and what it takes to make it works smooth.

---->> NOW!! after 5 month using the Iridium spark plugs, It shows it's age and need to be replaced.... I started to hear popping sound from th engine. meaning that, the spark plug is not at optimum performance. need to change.

---->> fortunately, my chain & sprocket set still last till now after so many month. I recommend to you guys the RK-M Takasago Chain 428 and alloy steel sprockets. they last longer with all the torture I put on them... hahaahaa...

I juz change a set of 420 chain (Brand=NK Made in Malaysia) and CHROME alloy steel sprokets at Johor last Tuesday (27/06/06). I love chrome sprokets! Looks nice. :cheeky:

hi bro,i new here .firstly welcome back!!

check with u,where u buy ur Iridium spark plugs?wat is the model number?

thanks for sharing

Hai.... and thanks...

it is the NGK Iridium Spark Plugs, I bought from my regular mechanic shop at sentul, Kuala Lumpur. Unfortunately I forget the part number. maybe later, I can chek them from the shop I bought. Recently, I changed to another brand. not sure about the brand name but it cost me RM 14.00 and it has good response too. the orange colored with big "3X" image package tells that it will last at least 20,000km. and the shop owner says if it doesn't last 20,000km, he'll replace one for me F.O.C. that's cool, so I decide to give it a try.

P/S : the spark plug has three ignition head.

P/S : SplitFire plug has 1 'V' ignition head

Result after 600+- km, the 3X spark plugs response as expected. very powerful and close to SplitFire Spark Plugs performance if not alike with added pickup and smooth top speed performance. You can feel the difference right after installing it. but I encounter start problems the first time I install the plug. I need to kick several times before the engine fires. after that, it's just a smooth kick and the engine fires. maybe new plugs require the electirc to flow in it first ???... is there such thing ?? hehehe....

For periodic maintenance and keepin' your bike in tip top condition pls refer to this list.

http://www.yamaha-motor.com.my/periodicinspection.aspx

Taken from X-1 manual.Caution:

Make sure that the air filter element is properly seated in the air filter case.

The engine should NEVER be OPERATED WITHOUT the air filter element installed, otherwise the piston and cylinder may become EXCESSIVELY WORN.

thanks dude....

I've go to the mechanic and he says, there is a fuel filter, together with the fuel pump located underneath the tank. and is very rare for service.

the poiunt I'm asking is that..... after my brother borrow my bike and fill the tank with RON92 Petrol, the engine starts to jerk and sounds terrible. everything seems loose.... thats why I want to service the fuel line and replace the fuel with Petronas Primax 3... and yup, I already did. now the engine is back to normal behaviour. Guys....Please AVOID filling RON92 fuel into the tank.... you don't want to get into trouble.... seriously.

Hmmm. Dat's good. So what did conoco engineers say?

I think it's best for u to use the 20W50 rather than the 10W40. I myself prefer the 20W50. Be it Conoco Super Sport or the Conoco Hydroclear.

Typically air cooled engines use 20W50. Like SparkZ or Wave which is air cooled.

I am curious on what did the engineers say?.......

Bro no offence but i have been using Esso gold 10w4o since day one on my X-1 and Spark 135.. Had no porblems but better engine and milage.

Why is 20W50 recomended?

Cheers
