Whether it is legal, it's opened to interpretation because many scramblers are using after-market over-sized tanks and I haven't heard of problems with inspection or the ROVs.

Definitely it is possible. Just buy one of those aftermarket scrambler plastic tanks, such as IMS, Acerbis etc, capacity from 15 litres to 25 litres, fabricate some brackets to secure it.

I have seen a Wave with such a mod, and it doesn't look too bad.

thats great to know. what i'm actually interested in is to mod/mould a plastic tank that will fill the entire space under the seat of the bike, since the makers have always left some space for riders to put their stuff in. wonder if there already is such a mod done somewhere.

Has been done long ago. U need to dig up the wave thread. Not cheap as i recall one fellow forummer mentioned. About $200+? The metal tank was expanded into the U-box.

hmm seems like cannot replace the whole underseat with a bigger fuel tank. i saw one guy mod the basket between his legs on his wave 125 into a chrome tank. stylo but not that nice.. and obvious to customs.. lol

I have seen a wave with it. The whole area in front where the basket is supposed to be is covered by a gigantic plastic tank.

Not too sure whether ROV will find fault though.

in the newpaper today, theres this article about our neighbour country catching bikes (picture showing kups) used to smuggle petrol over boarders. they mod their tank to be able to carry 30 litres. but thats some underground business and i think the bikes are not from singapore, not personal thing like your case. it may be illegal, becareful

sure got problems..

gas tank are considered as a structural container..ie they are suppose to be strong and tough in case of collision the tank will not burst..

plastic tank most probably cannot withstand the impact...this is one very important safety requiremens..not only this must be fireproof..just imagine..

accident..some how sparks and fire..the plastic container melteed.rider will end up in a fire ball.

for example those conversion cng kits must be installed by certified installers..for this reason.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time:dot:

Modifying your bike tank is considered illegal because you are tampering with the original specifications catered to your bike... Those big scrambler bikes that replaced their tanks to bigger ones especially materials that are made of plastic will definitely fail their inspection because 1 strong reason is that their replacement tank are made of material that are a superb conductor of fire and hence it will definitely pose danger to the owner.

I was dreaming all the past, Why do good times never last?:gun:

Incorrect. Many dirt bikes here use aftermarket big tanks, and there are absolutely NO issues with inspection or LTA.

And why would aftermarket tanks be a fire hazzard, when many stock tanks are also made of plastic?

This topic falls into an gray area. Not many people wants to do it and not many does it. So for TS we point the direction and he will go if he is determined. For the rest of us i feel its unnecessary to debate the balls out of the topic and get it highlighted/become a definitive NO at the end of the day cos we are not going to do it ourselves.

Like in army you see people smoke you want just follow, if not diam diam. No need to ask sergeant "CAN OR NOT AH?", later he say NO den everyone LLST.

I believe the topic should be put to rest.:)

i suggest write to manufacturers n tell them to design at least a 10 liters tank in the future.

if there is an huge market, those guys will consider, it's all about money (profits).

I saw it at serangoon ave 2 carpark. There was a filler hole for the fuel. The bike was blue the tank was an uglier blue. And no, it didnt look like in the picture. The plastic tank was much, much bigger.

I agree... Many bikes have plastic tanks. Wave also plastics underseat tank right?

The issue here is whether the Fuel tank are made for the bike. Tank is not the structure unless you talking about Madass. After market tanks are designed to replace & fit the existing bike mounting points precisely. So in an (PUI PUI PUI) accident the tank won't fly off easily.

If customised anyhow by sungei road Ngo Kim Diam and "ADD ON" then that will pose a legal issue.

BTW:

LTA still has the rights to summon anyone, just quote illegal modification covers the mountain and the seas... Any non original parts that are not LTA approved are illegal. See they wanna catch or not only.

I was stopped by LTA for mounting Number plate higher then 1m. then the officer warned me to put bigger signal light, Ah Boy Signal light too small. Then my bike original Signal is not LED. I have to put bulb.

Two years ago, I recce'd and found a shop in the kranji industrial park area (close to kranji damp) that does modification to the wave. The guy will extend the u-box increasing the tank capacity to 11 or 12L, if I remember. It's quite long since I have been there, not sure if the shop still exist. Heck if you ask me, it will probably take a while for me to even locate the place, lol. Haven't been there in a while and that place was so ulu..
