it all depends on how u wana use it, some adore corners neglected miles.

there r wide tire choice around available for ST1100s, the most common r BT020, Metzler MEZ4, Dragon & Michelin Macadam. I'm a Macadam user, my last pair last me over 90Kkm before replacement. :D

cos got a irritating sound ........

loose clutch housing will sound like something is clicking, goes something like

"TATATA....TATATA...TATATA." it seems to be coming from the centre of the engine and it is best heard when the engine is idling.

it is not a serious problem, it does not affect the performance but is does cause some irriation for some people.

As it is not a must or hurry to change la, if u really wan to remove the sound.

i recommand u to change it when u r changing ur clutch plate. it will be better and save money too.

btw i did change it before by gopa but i cant remember the price. u can ask him to quote u.

i don feel changing housing is a waste of money but it is the pride to make our ulimate machines prefect.

cheers

smokingjoe,

if it doesnt sound unuually abnormal y u wana waste ur money to 'perfect' it...?

get ur carburettor synchronised & ensure engine oil is at the appropriate level(3.6-3.7ltr, level for 3.7ltr is slightly above the 'H' marking when not being operated for the last 10hrs, 3.6ltr is slightly beneath the 'H' from the level glass). by have both done the 'unusual sound should be able to reduced or disappear.

if we have the time, I dont mind to hear it for u to confirm the plm. just gimme a call/sms.

Simon,

Thanks for the website on the tyres. I have already seen the tyres and decided to stick to the Bridgestone Tyres as I have a Bridgestone Rear Tyre.

Would like your advise on something else. My bike's exhaust is very "Sweet" in the morning. I suspect that the fuel is rich. Could please advise on what can be done about it?

hi thomas28,

can u give more details of the 'sweet' u said.

if u think it's too rich, it can be re-tuned easily with the turn of the pilot air screws by lifting the carburettor out from the engine, correct air/fuel mixture for all P.E. models is 1&4/6 turn outs.

correct method to do it is by closing(clock wise) in the 'pilot air screws' & then turn it out, can be done in less than an hour UNLESS u use a pilot air screw wrench to minimise the process of stripping ur bike.

very difficult to diagnose the plm from ur words description....

Simon,

The sweet as in i suspect the air fuel mixture is wrong. There might b an overflow of fuel in the carburetor. I have also seen that the carb manifold is cracked. Could this be the problem? Also, on a very cold day, the bike seem to be sputtering (fuel not coming) and it gets very hard to warm up.

My clutch has a unusually far bitting point. I have asked two different mechanic from two different workshops and both told me that nothing can done, not even bleeding.

One of the mechanic told me that the only way to rectify this is to change a new pair of adjustable lever - just like the adjustable break lever.

Anyone have the same problem?

ngleo,

yes, originated from STOCK bitting point is further, nothing can be done to make it nearer unless u use another model's clutch lever.

Why don't change adjustable clutch lever. I am using a RVF/VFR clutch lever for my ST1100. Anyway, saw a ST1100 at SANFU at Kaki Bukit yesterday. Wondering whether the bike belongs to someone in this forum. See the damage sim tia.

Can you tell me if the RVF/VFR clutch lever is black or is it chrome? And where can I get them?

the clutch handle only come in silver/chrome clour  not very sure. But believe have to change the brake lever to the same colour too. Or else will look odd. Stock ST1100 levers are black.

You guys are helpful indeed. Thanks for the useful info once again thomas28 and amen23.

I was suggested to change both lever by one of the bike shop but i was hoping that i can find one that's black instead of chrome cos it doesn't look that great with my maroon ST.

guys,

recently I received cases of coolant hose leakings from ageing ST1100s, especially those over 4 year old OR under utilised.

inspect ur coolant hoses(especially 2 hose under carburetor) before u go for overseas ride, make sure correct coolant(ethlyn glycol) & properly mixed with 'distilled' water(40-60% will do). simply press the hose, if it's not too hard & no visible stained leak or mineral corroding residue around it should be ok.

perform weekly inspection of the reservoir making sure it's level at 'High'(before morning start) all the time, any increase or decreament will need ur immediate attention.

change ur coolant regularly within the interval of 38,000km or 2 years.

hope it helps.
