Hi guys ,

just to share the story of my first accident since getting my license. :sian:

Had my first front wheel puncture 2 days ago ( seems like i kanna nail and it was slowly leaking) , and managed to pump it up before riding to planet for a new tyre. Got myself a $70 Metzler Lasertec and left after its fitted. 2 mins out on the main road Ubi Rd 3 or Ave 3 and while turning right , the whole front wheel just wiped out and before i knew it ,i was pinned under the bike in the middle of the junction. There was no car or truck behind me

Thankfully , a pedestrian and a biker stopped to help me up and get me to the side of the road. Slightly dazed but lucky i was going slow like 40km/hr Damages :

1) Nasty road rash on my right arm (T-shirt :dot:)

2) scratched right mirror , spoilt right indicator lights and some scratches on my rear box. Slight scratch on my helmet side too.

3) Torn jeans and shoe but lucky no leg injuries.

Went back to planet and ah chong mended the bent stuff and declared it ok and changed my right signal light for free ! :thumb:

Lesson learnt :

1) new tyres are slippery and requires at least 200km of running-in , i didnt know that :dot:

2) Thankfully i was wearing jeans and shoes...cant imagine my legs/feet if i was wearing slippers and shorts !

Gonna invest my CNY angpao on some armour , maybe looking at budget jackets like this : http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?p=6142646&posted=1#post6142646

Mind sharing what armour jackets are you guys wearing?

did u install crash bars? if u didnt, u should... its a MUST to have a crash bar. One of the guy frm planet did told me tt the new tyre will be kinda slippery and gotta be careful when i 1st changed my rear tyre. i normally wear my adidas jacket with open finger gloves, seldom wear my fully covered gloves as it is kinda troublesome.

hi bro, glad that u are alright

i also pass around that time, but abit later den u..

but i was unlucky had a accident after 4month, due to idiotic car driver.

protective gears, erm depend on how much is ur budget.

if ur budget is low, get something cheaper den

at least got some protection is always better den no protection.

get a glove, and a jacket for the min.

riding boots actually for me i dun reali recommend in SG road, as there are so many traffic light that u need to stop, put ur leg down many times. and riding boots if u not that used to it, it will cause some uncomfortness.

as for pants u wear jeans will be good also.

and another thing get a crash bar for ur bike

First accident

Just pass ....riding an old yamaha ysr125 cruiser ...it was pouring heavily but i still ride on , no shelter along bke,....following behind a black mercedees at 50 m away on the third lane and a sbs bus following behind

the merc suddenly jam brake ...i also jam brake the bus also jam brake

I skidded for abou 5 m kena pin down by the bike , the first thot on my mind is i si liao the bus is going to run over me....

it did .... the front bumper when over my top portion of my body....heng

the lady driver got out ...saw my bike under the bus ...get in the car and drove off...

the bus driver got down from the bus look at my position and the first word was "si liao si liao" ....i sound out ...not yet not yet!!!...he pull me and my bike out...and to the side check i was ok offer me a ride to the hospital but i decline

I was more concern with the bike

the damage was a bengkok stering.... damage signal lamp ...so i straighten it out and move on

Lesson learn

1. keep away from mercedees

2. keep away from lady driver.

3. Bus drivers are nice people

4. yamaha bike with bengkok steerring can still ride..

5. when it was raining heavily under the bus is not a good plce to find shelter.

Life sux..Take control ..and live it and pick yourselves up now.. die later

crash bar is life saver.

my uncle dropped the phantom twice. very slow speed losing control once.

my uncle had superficial injuries but the phantom.. without a scratch.

the most important thing is that the bike rested on the crash bar instead of his legs/body.

crash bar makes phantom look fiercer imho.

take care!

Thank God you got away with minor scratches. Ya covered shoes, gloves, jeans & jacket are very important. Although, I seldom wear my jacket due to the hot weather and too bulky to store into any of my boxes! But do stretch your budget slightly for your own safety bro! I'm getting my crash bar soon as been looking for the one I wanted. Anyway, I think you got my point, SAFETY FIRST! Cheers!

Don't do it to others what you don't want others to do to you! God bless!

@ zhi ming: glad that you are more or less ok... yes take it easy when you have put on fresh tyres... I would suggest that you ride them for about 500km before you ride the bike as you normally would...

somewhere i saw something about gloves....troublesome???

ok juz to share some experience with full leather gloves....

slid @ 80km/H on KJE while i met in an accident....wearing coverall, gloves, goretex boots...

bike was in a far worse shape then me.....i've got no injuries not even blue black....right palm cushioned my fall and supported my weight while i was sliding on my bum....my bum was saved by my wallet, the coverall tore, but the best thing is.......

the gloves had not suffered a single damage...not even a flake of the skin came off....and the gloves is still around and im still using it from the day since 2007 ride safe event....

those whom i showed the glove doesn't believe that the glove had been thru an accident...

anyway long story short u guys should know what im trying to imply....

last but not least, that day was the day of my luck as wearing gloves was a mood thing, and that was the time that i was saved, if not i think half my palm would already be left on the KJE....

HUAT HUAT HUAT AH!!!!!!!!

Go as far as you can see; when you get there, you'll be able to see farther.

Yep safety is most important...armour first , then crashbar in a few months time :thumb:

Actually some crashbars look quite nice , can make the phantom look even more "cruiser"-like , but some make it look rather sianz :dozed:

crashbars not only protect the bike from "injuries". but it can also help protect the rider from being pinned under it when crashing.

other than that, jacket and gloves is a must too. these are not too ex, if cant afford any armor jacket, at least any other jacket can help too in most cases.

i used to wear the raincoat, saved my elbows for a few times.

I wear an armoured mesh jacket, armoured gloves and FF helmet. I think my life is more important than anything else! Been really thinking about crashbars though.. I don't like how it looks, frankly!

On topic, I had my one and only accident thus far when I was U-Turning on a steep slope. Crashed at about 5km/h and my signal lights were super scratched :(

my ff, komine mesh jacket and glove saved my life.

suffered concussion, abrasions and a fractured finger.

considered good already.. going around 70 plus.. hitting side railing.

if nt for the mesh jacket..

dun dare to tink of the road rash on my body.

Sorry to hear of your fall, the tyres are new and you just happen to learn these the painful way. Do invest in good apparel/armour for riding.

What I suggest you spend the red packets on,

-Full face

-Full length gloves

-Jacket(meshed or something)

-Jeans(normally people prefer this over the armoured pants)

-Proper shoes

-Crash Bar(protect your bike)

-Good servicing and petrol daily usage :]

Ride cautiously, been hearing from another biker that there are many accidents lately.

Yeah I agree. While it might be hot when u gear up (not to mention other pple may look at u and snigger away seeing u all geared up and riding a phantom), u can always have a choice.

U wanna suffer from painful injuries, scrapes or abrasions, or u prefer to be laughed at yet arrive safe and sound?

Budget got budget protection. While budget stuff might not be as comfy as the high quality ones, but a padding is always better den u're bare skin or u're flesh.
