Hi guys ..just bought a new TDM.

Any idea where I can have it serviced? Cos.. i would like to use mineral oil until it is properly run-in and not sure if Yamaha will allow me to bring my oil along.

Any help would be appreciated.

Called them. They said they use 20W-50 is is thicker than the 10W-40 grade Yamaha recommends ... I just want to use what the manufacturer recommends.

Also told me that there is a $20 service fee if I bring my own oil ..sigh.

Any other good bike shops who specialise in TDMs?

Posted

I think if u bring the Engine oil to any other bike shop, u'll be charge the same for labour. How come u dont want to enjoy the first 3 free servicing there? If anything is to happen to your bike within 10k-12k milleage (not too sure about the actual warranty) its going to be charge under their account. Else if u change EO at other bike shop, if anything is to happen to your bike within this critical running-in period, its going to be your words against them. Just my 2 cents. Btw i'm using Maxima 20W-50 myself and planning to stick with it for quite sometime.

Dili, Loois, BikeWerx, Planet...etc are some of the bike shop u can count on.

You are correct about the benefits of doing the service at Yamaha. I guess I may have to pay the service fee to use my own oil then.

Tks simply80chup.

Actually,HL using the shell mineral oil is not bad.used a few times before for running in.Dun waste money bring your own oil.No diff.

Past rides are already history....

Thanks James. Was told by her they are using Fuchs 20w50. If its Shell 10w40, no problem. Its what the manuf. recommended.

Then, after this service, I can increase RPM to 6000 .... kool!

Oh...I didnt know HL switched brand already.Must be too long never go down. When i went that time, they are using the shell 20w50 for bikes running in.

IMO,I think the oil (20W50)too thick for TDM,have a very heavy throttle feeling.10W40 thin out too fast,at maybe around less than 5K mileage.but better response. Now I am using 15W50,so far so go.Think around 6k plus mileage now before my day trip tomrrow.

Bro if u insist in using shell mineral base oil, think u need to top up some amount. Not sure how much though. Thats what a friend of mine was told. Double confirm with them again. Cheerz dude.

Hi Magnet,

From your pic, the leaking is not too serious. Try adding more torque to your bolt, clean up the mess, see if it still leak. If it does, gasket is worn out, does not cause much to get it change. If the leak has been a while, check your engine oil level. No need to worry over it, enjoy your ride.

Cheers

Changed the gasket few days ago... the leak stopped Thanks guys

Good morning everybody!!! After a much long process .. finally I'm the proud owner of a TDM 900. Took over the bike from Mr TDM_Winger aka Bob who has now chosen the "shaft driven bike" path. I've been reading all your posts since day one (took me a week to complete!!) and it seems I know you all. Will be looking forward to gain some knowledge from you guys and definitely some riding trips!!! and also accessories that might be lying unused in your room somewhere .. Anyway have a good sunday!!

I m not sure bout the ABS TDM...can check with HL...but i bet the non ABS is good enuff...its R1 calipers and disc...want better brakes, replace the hose and get the EBC if you have the extra dough...

Din...maybe you mite wanna leave your contact so its easier to activate you...normally i will sms the usual suspect for breakfast...we dont do the add your name list in this thread anymore as its so unfruitful...sms is the faster and easier way...

for replacing the sprockets and chain...

as for myself...i get the stock sprockets from Auto Machineries...both cost only not more than $70...but be wary, sometimes the old man has short memory...he may quote you different price on the phone or maybe the last time you came to buy...so you must be firm..as for chain,i will bring my sprockets and go to ahboy buy the RK or DID 525 X-ring ard $85-$95 and ask ahboy that you want them to fix the sprocket as well...maybe he will charge extra $5-$10...
