Just return to the newspaper, from the headquarters of Yamaha Motor France and in a deluge of rain and hail, was enough to convince us! If the purpose of TDM 900 GT ABS (it's long name ...) is to offer the benefits of a major road, it worked! Extrapolated to a machine that already knows receiving (TDM is known for its comfort), the GT adds a new dimension in the protection offered.

Bubble well-drawn (no turbulence) and the side deflectors at hand dealing with the pampered upper body while the lower fairing is effectively the legs away, to the point where we can switch waterproof trousers when traveling peri. One regret? : That he does not paint "your body" to be better integrated into the line (but would have increased the bill ...).

But later the GT also has its setbacks ... Particularly in the city, where the mirrors superlarges require attention: they pass over those cars, they graze those vans. Ditto for the bags, which greatly exceed the size of the bike. The solution: leave the garage in-house use (bags, not retro!) And their preferred carrier package, even the top-box option Full Pack (our test model).

Verdict. As GT, TDM this is a success, its worth protecting widely certain "big GT" much more expensive ... Still, it lacks the critical eyes of a big roller: a transmission shaft and conical couple. But at € 11,429 (€ 11,649 for the Full Pack), TDM is a good deal for those who want to ride in all weathers as solo duo.

ROAD TEST YAMAHA TDM 900 GT ABS

Yamaha TDM 900 GT has a large template with imposing, even more in its GT - compared to the TDM version 900 base - especially with his bags, his fairing and high bubble that make it look a 1000.The GT version is finalizing a model with this well built and deflecting fairing covering the bottom engine.

http://www.lerepairedesmotards.com/img/essais/yamaha/tdm-900-gt-abs/yamaha-tdm-900-route5.jpg

The large side bags and top case complete a motorcycle home already cut for the road. The black plastic bags, not painted, are perhaps a little sad.As against, they will suffer less if you fall scratches.We note finally the center stand, essential for the maintenance and the chain tension simplified.

http://www.lerepairedesmotards.com/img/essais/yamaha/tdm-900-gt-abs/yamaha-tdm-900-face.jpg

Saddle

The feet barely touching the ground for driver 1, 70 meters, but the weight seems much lighter than the gauge outside would suggest, especially considering the 226 kilos of the beast.The saddle has a first contact closes and gives the impression of being square to the crotch, forcing them to remove the legs slightly and make an effort to surround the knees as the shell. La position est droite, naturelle, facile. The position is right, natural, easy. Le pilote est haut perché, avec une vue en hauteur de la route. The pilot is perched high, with a height of the road.

http://www.lerepairedesmotards.com/img/essais/yamaha/tdm-900-gt-abs/yamaha-tdm-900-valises.jpg

The turn-off the face - offering large central scoreboard - with a digital clock with inlay. Le compteur se place à gauche en retrait tandis qu'à droite le témoin de température moteur équilibre l'ensemble. The counter is at left back while the right engine temperature indicator balance overall.

http://www.lerepairedesmotards.com/img/essais/yamaha/tdm-900-gt-abs/yamaha-tdm-900-compteur.jpg

Contact

TDM in 900 shake perched above a whisper. The first wheel revolutions performed without difficulty, giving the bike this time feel a tiny cylinder 600.

http://www.lerepairedesmotards.com/img/essais/yamaha/tdm-900-gt-abs/yamaha-tdm-900-moteur.jpg

In town

TDM 900 GT winds between files easily despite his bags. Its light weight and wide handlebars facilitate all operations. Même chargée et avec le passager, TDM seems slight.. A slight cannot, deception or slow, and the wide handlebar allows you to easily counterbalance to catch up without any difficulty apparent loss of balance.

we feel good about the twin idling, knocking the latter under the 2100 rpm. This prohibits the coup in TDM to evolve in the city on the last report, the minimum possible being 60 km / h. In fact, TDM in town prefer the first two reports. The first report is already easily tease 80 km / h, the twin accepting and more willing to stay up the red zone.

Provided that it hot, the engine temperature rises rapidly, helped in this by a cooling down due to the wide encompassing fairing. As against, if the heat is easily detected via the temperature control - easy to catch - it does not feel for the driver, even in the legs.

http://www.lerepairedesmotards.com/img/essais/yamaha/tdm-900-gt-abs/yamaha-tdm-900-zodiac.jpg

Highway

TDM 900 swings hard on highway ... provided it is on the 3rd report. Since the last report, it feels the twin up to 90 km / h, which rises gently regime. Indeed, at 115 km / h, CT is only 4000 rpm. A 140 km / h, the engine still running at 5000 rpm. But this, she agrees to take it easier to hang towers 1000 rpm above 170 km / h while it is still at 2,000 rpm to the red zone ... allowing speeds shameful .

The high bubble protecting the torso, while leaving the head overlook it ... but generates waves in the helmet from 110 km / h. If the protection is much better than in the bubble of low origin, stir in the helmet generate significant noise, despite a helmet known for his silence (Schuberth C2). Lowering the head behind the bubble decreases slightly this phenomenon, but without destroying it completely. Suddenly, the ear plugs are essential to the road. For against, TDM remains unconcerned at high speed, including in large curves, despite its lightness popular in town. Warning! The recommendations included in suitcases recommend not exceed 130 km / h when they are loaded. But to respect the legal speed, anyway, no one rolls faster.

TDM almost prefer national to this game is, the more reasonable speeds reducing noise and turmoil related to the bubble high.

http://www.lerepairedesmotards.com/img/essais/yamaha/tdm-900-gt-abs/yamaha-tdm-900-route.jpg

Departmental

Once departmental TDM 900 reveals its true personality and true pleasure. The big twin is fast on the first reports and allows a rapid pace in virolos. The second s'emmène indeed blithely up to 120 km / h and the 3rd up to 150 km / h! If CT is soft under 4000 rpm, it starts to really respond from this scheme and flies beyond 7000 rpm, responding instantly to the demands of a handful of gas, and delayed effect . As for the pins of the mountains, its lightness makes it especially easy. On these roads, CT really likes the first 3 reports and did possibly 4th report on the major lines and curves.

Neutral TDM 900 is easy to bend and fall just as easily for enquiller in slaloms from right to left rather quickly. Then the center stand, which hampers the heat of the pilot, for both left and right, the stand quickly key in a shrill sound ... quite surprising the first time. Yet, TDM could be more natural angle than that, especially as the Dunlop 220 fitted as original equipment are perfect for the model.

http://www.lerepairedesmotards.com/img/essais/yamaha/tdm-900-gt-abs/yamaha-tdm-900-virage.jpg

Potholed roads

TDM revealed by its expertise in maintaining stability and excellent handling on potholed roads completely. But if the pace is accelerating and if in addition there are a duo, the shock is over and the key center stand in line ...! Of course, holes and bumps encountered were important, but it was a departmental level and not a country lane. This is where TDM reaches its limits.

http://www.lerepairedesmotards.com/img/essais/yamaha/tdm-900-gt-abs/yamaha-tdm-900-route3.jpg

Night Route

The lighting of TDM is good in low-beam headlights. The high beam provides better, but width and height, and comparatively few in depth. The brand offers a good night lighting, which largely drive fast enough.

http://www.lerepairedesmotards.com/img/essais/yamaha/tdm-900-gt-abs/yamaha-tdm-900-nuit.jpg

Braking

Braking TDM is easy, even as it reinforced ABS. If the rear brake is a little soft, it assoie the bike just enough before turning. The front brake is a good feeling comfortable and power, the power even if one does not hesitate to take it with all fingers of the hand. Especially with the ABS, TDM ensures then a powerful and effective braking over a short distance. These two modes, mild with 2 fingers and with the powerful hand tight is an ideal point for a novice rider, to be put in trust as its ownership of the motorcycle.

http://www.lerepairedesmotards.com/img/essais/yamaha/tdm-900-gt-abs/yamaha-tdm-900-freins.jpg

Comfort

The saddle is firm at first. Its form, however, requires an effort to squeeze every shell with the legs to the thighs to remove naturally. The suspensions seem firm on the first kilometers, making many feel the holes and defects in the pavement ... and raising fears the worst on long journeys. But in fact, the TDM 900 is nice as miles, allowing for trips of almost 500 km without pain after particular.

And 2000 km flown on board - both small roads, mountain roads and highways - confirm a good overall comfort. His firm is primarily to ensure a healthy, responsible and even a duet. This observation is confirmed by the pilot by the passenger. The position of the passenger foot is perfect, without any vibration. Handles passenger are well placed and offer a good grip. In short, it's all good for the duo.

http://www.lerepairedesmotards.com/img/essais/yamaha/tdm-900-gt-abs/yamaha-tdm-900-champs.jpg

Consumption

With its 20 liter tank, the TDM 900 GT can browse between 350 and 400 km. If the first stick is extinguished after 100 km, each stick is extinguished after about every 40 km after (100 - 145 - 190 - 230 - 280), until the appearance of the gauge flashing -- placed on reserve - around 320 kilometers. It then remains which make about fifty kilometers. Displays the trip at that time the number of miles traveled since the placing on reserve.

The average is close to 5.5 liters per cent, including mountain roads on the reports. It goes beyond just 6 liters cent at faster rate as possible (within the limits allowed by the center stand) or on the motorway over the legal speed in France.

http://www.lerepairedesmotards.com/img/essais/yamaha/tdm-900-gt-abs/yamaha-tdm-900-route4.jpg

Practice

The seat provides storage for a long U-lock, including support for the central part. There is still room for a later anti-puncture kit. It's quite rare to be noticed.

http://www.lerepairedesmotards.com/img/essais/yamaha/tdm-900-gt-abs/yamaha-tdm-900-souslaselle.jpg

The bags provide 20 liters with their respective capacity sufficient to accommodate both sides what is needed for a weeks holiday for two. Tensioners intérieurs avoid all falling at the slightest opening. And for the pilot who set off alone, hooks under the seat can stow in a bag on the seat back or the door if the package-top-box was removed.

http://www.lerepairedesmotards.com/img/essais/yamaha/tdm-900-gt-abs/yamaha-tdm-900-valises-interieur.jpg

Conclusion

TDM 900 GT as well as the TDM 900 motorcycle ideal for the beginner rider who wants to travel far with comfort and with the impression of having a big GT. Easy, quick grip, TDM appraised as miles, both in solo duo. A test of a half-hour could disenchant the buyer when the grip makes it appealing as hundreds of kilometers. It may be interesting to negotiate when buying a bubble cut lower, creating less vibration in the helmet. It will also be useful for urban use. But the biker could consider removing the center stand if he wants to travel far and wants angler provided that allows the bike ... on pain of frustration. The price difference between the standard version (9999 €) and GT (11,649 € in full pack) is justified if it is based on stock prices of bags (419 € each + mounting kit € 159), the top-box (399 €), the bubble of high (105 €), the skin side of the center stand (195 €) added. But you can also just imagine fitting suit and top box on a standard model. This allows the final to have a good bike to do everything for a limited budget.

STRENGTHS

* Ease of grip

* Handling

* Comfort

WEAKNESSES

* Bubble generating high waves

* Center stand that affects
