Dress for the fall, not for the ride...a compelling perspective

@scuba nice work but no amount of words can persuade a person like an actual fall can.

1 fall and eat asphalt = automatic wakeup idea

i learnt the hard way too, and always shudder when i recall the doctor picking these embedded into my palms and knees. ONE BY ONE.

don't know which is "lightest" but mine is lighter than many open face helmets. i've tried the HJC carbon one (not the sticker type) and it was also very light.

good write up Scubasimon :)

for the 1.5 years i've been riding, been trying to convince my wife that it's for her own good to put on at least a flip up + gloves + light mesh jacket but she won't relent... and i know if i get them with out her prior consent, i'd get hell... nontheless i should have

but now, i don't pillion her any more and if we go out together it's in the car...

for me, i am guilty of not having my jacket & boots on on terribly hot days

but when ever possible, it's just about no skin shown

head - Flip up - Multitec

torso - mesh + soft armour jacket - Viper

hand - mesh + knuckle armour gloves - RS Taichi

legs - at least jeans

feet - riding shoes, mid cut (over ankles) - Nankai

Grounded... :/

i agree with you.

But seems at most riders will go for Full Face helmet, Armoured jackets and gloves with knuckle protectors.

As for the lower body, at most would be jeans.

I have yet to see anyone wear knee and shin protectors.

Would be a good alternative?

yup... thats in sg.. cause i wont be wearing amoured jeans when im out in orchard road right. so min gear will be a ff helmet, gloves and jacket.. haha

without proper gears, i travel really slow and extra careful.

Well, i am one who is being influenced by the posts to consider to buy a FF. My consideration now is cost and comfort factors.

I do not know buying a FF can protect you so much more.

Becoz school never teach that as we all wear open face ma in school and most FF people i see ride sports bikes so i really thought that FF is only for racers.

Can anyone recommend which good FF helmet to get for below $200? Or should i go to JB to get a cheaper FF ?

Exunctly my point. imagine they started drilling these info from training days til riders pass tp!

i for one, only knew abt safety gear when i frequent sbf again, after an absence of abt 3 years..

DUN BUY AT JB! :faint::lol:

hands exposed. :p

i think motoworld got a promotion now, trade in any helmet to get $50 off their HJC FF helmet, selected models only.

go take a look, u might find one for $200 +/-..

now still have? now still have? now still have? now still have? now still have?

One more thing, wearing FF can still talk to my pillion at traffice lights?

Can la aiyo. Unless the pillion got difficulty listening to your frequency of questions... Hahaha... Or if the pillion is on ear plugs.

@darkhorse2009: why don't you go to the shop and try it out? after all, different helmets insulate noise to different degrees. you will only know for sure after you have tried them out.

Only disadvantages of using a full face is

1. Cannot smoke

2. Cannot spit

3. Need to open visor when talking to pillion

4. a bit hot when riding around in the afternoon but open the air vents and its fine

But I highly recommend to use full face >.> face important sia if accident that’s the last part of your body u would want to see scarred for life

Hmmm i do see specy still insist on FF which is a good thing la. But seriously a FF is much better than a Flip Face.

For specy wise you still can have a FF but you have to take out your spec then put on your helmet then put in your spec again lor. But some helmet are so tight that you difficult to wear your spec in after you put on the helmet. Well you can still try it out at Lim Ah Boy or Regina. No obligation one but only kana stress nia Hahaha you dun wanna buy just walk off also like that.

that was a very interesting write up while i fully agree with u its impossible to get everyone to suit up considering the weather of singapore. while i ask every of my friends to buy insurance prevention is better then cure. just the other day i faced a car exiting from a minor road. despite i flashed the headlights at him, he stil decided to come out. i braked like crazy afterwhich i confronted the car to see a gentleman apologizing non stop. while he seem sincere, the fact many of them try such "stunts" rather then just wait a second or two is simple because they don realise such acts can cause so much pain. im would encourage you to write in to newspaper forum. each time i do so my letter get so heavily edited.. (of cos i don write like that when to the press)

if my father is the minister of transport i make sure u needa get 2b before u can get cl3!:thumb:

the other day, someone wrote in to encourage bikers wear visbility vest.

i drive a car too. while i agree there are bikes that jus simply appear out of no where, its jus too convenient to check the mirrors without checking blind spot. so its not about visibility issues don ppl don check or jus simply unpatient. we shld all write in to highlight.

we are not 2nd class citizen on the roads jus because we pay lower road tax. if that is the case. bmw n lambo should have a special lane for the road tax they pay. more should be said so drivers can understand our phlight.

there was one mum fker who wrote in saying bike speed limit is 70kmph.

it is obvious that this guy needs to retake his BTT
