From agent, you can only get agent bike. From motorbike shop, sometimes you can get parallel import bike which is much cheaper. For financing, try Hitachi or Singapura, instead of those bikeshops, should be cheaper but need to fit the criteria.

How about actually calling the agent themselves to ask for a comprehensive price instead? Just a thought.. :dot:

I have always thought that buying from agent was more expensive. Like if i were to buy a YBR from Hong Leong, it would be like 1k more ex if i buy from bike shops. Dunno why.

Lesson in business: if any supplier tried to undercut his distribution channels, his channels would retaliate and stop distributing. Usually this means overall sales will go down.

Most suppliers choose to work with their channels and would try to maintain the same price whether you buy from either.

He who hesitates is lost!

Buying a yamaha bike from bike shops is generally cheaper than buying direct from HL. Bike shops get their bikes from HL at "special agent prices". HL's interest rate is 5% and mininum DP is 30%. You may ask: who would then buy from HL and why? Well, they are those who want peace of mind and not contend with certain bike shops' hidden costs/early settlement fees etc.

Agent are normally distributor that distribute bikes to authorised dealers to sell. Hence some bike shop will become their authorised dealers to sell agent's bikes which warranty are recgonised by the agent.

This way the dealers are the one helping them to spread the sales network however they must have some form of incentive to help the agent to sell. One of the common way is the agent will sell the bike at a higher price or so called recommended retail price so that people will flock to the dealers to buy instead.

In short, it is normally cheaper to buy from authorised dealer instead of agent.

It is a no brainer if the price HL quoted is ONLY WITHOUT insurance. Unless if your insurance is more than $2k, of course get from HL. But lookout for hidden charge or you may have missed out some chargable item. Or maybe the year of manufacturing is different.

Thanks bro....

My first tots were HL corp shld be cheaper so Thats why i chose to buy direct from them. But after seeing all the reviews given by all of our forummers, looks like working direct with some of the motor dealers shld be a good choice so as to save $$$ rather loosing out more cash in the end. I went to HL corp yest.... but the Sales person was no there. How bad was that.... they request me to give him a call which is very troublesome for me.

Btw thanks for the good advise bro Kinwei.....

For your info, HL doesn't do loans. HL passes cases to Excel. When you buy a bike direct from HL and opt to take up a loan, you'll be dealing directly with Excel after HL collects your DP and delivers your bike. Pls note that HL promises no other hidden charges/early settlement fees whatsoever. But when you receive your hire-purchase contract from Excel(usually a week or two later), you'll see a $150 processing fee and $500 early settlement fee being stated in it. Pls bring this up to HL immediately. HL's response would be they'll 'talk' to Excel to waive them come the time you tio 4D/Toto and decide to clear everything. In a nutshell, pls pre-empt HL straightaway when buying a bike with an intention to take up a loan. Hope this helps those who intend to buy direct from HL. HL is good, though the same can't be said for the party handling the loan.

Good information. Funny thing is, all the while I thought Hong Leong being a big Finance company can do the loan themsleves right? Actually another good place to buy bike is Loois. No hidden charges plus no early settlement fee and interest rebate upon early settlement.

So now , if im goin to pay cash for my bike which will be the choice made, buy direct from HL or from a bikeshop itself. Since theres not much difference when taking up loan......i wanna know what will you guys Opt for when paying cash.

Thanks.....

If you gonna pay cash and the OTR price isn't much of a diff, I suggest you buy direct from HL. HL's mech will do up your bike swee swee (charge batt, install Seng Kwang bracket for IU etc). Some of the mech have even been to Japan for training. I trust HL mech more than bike shops. I believe you can sort of negotiate with HL. Hava talk with Mr Lee (HL sales manager). He may be able to lower the price abit if you are persistent. Even if the price is firm, he may throw in a Dainese voucher or something :). One thing to note: Not showing your desperation in buying the bike will aid in your negotiation.

P.S.: I'm not from HL. I just happen to buy my bike from HL and thus would like to share

my experience hopefully to the benefit of you guys.
