hi ppl i just got my license and tinking of buying either a kr or sp. dont really know the pros n cons of both bikes but there are more sp than kr among my frens. anyone can help? which of these would u reccomend? thanx

Looks wise, the SP looks nicer with the pro-arm and handles slightly better but I think outright speed (stock form), the KR will have the edge.

I'm a smoker, by that i mean two stroker, someday I'd like to burn clean, but for now that power band is my nicotine.

I rode krr in 2006.. back then there were lots of 2b 2strokers around. No cubs because the only ones available was wave and x1 plus insurance were cheaper then. Also tried many other KRs and SPs before.. so my experiences.. in point form:

 

- SP are more easily stolen as I believe some people possess SP's masterkey. Don't believe, ask some experience riders here in SBF.. more SPs reported stolen then kr..

 

- meanwhile... KR seat can be open with screwdriver (or really thin fingers). Which means with enough time, your whole bike can be taken apart.. Fortunately there are ways around this..

 

- SP has pro-arm. While some people feel it's an advantage, personally it's not because of the exhaust placement. Putting exhaust on the left blocks some view of the pro-arm; also makes it hard to clean. The pro-arm is also heavy and you can't put spoke rims on it, unlike a kr which will flyyyyyy with spoke rims and lightweight tyres.

 

- However, due to it's pro-arm, SP can fit bigger rear tyres. Can fit 120 width tyres.. 130 even (i think..) while kr is most comfortable at only 110..

 

- krr parts are way cheaper in Msia then SPs

 

- The cliche' everyone has heard of: krr is faster, while SP is more stable. krr is faster because its frame is lighter. About, SP unless you can find one in pristine condition, the many SPs you will find has their forks and rear suspensions abused to hell and back. How "stable" can that SP be then?

 

- krrs are newer then SPs; you can find krr with FBA plates, while you be hard-pressed to even find a FU plate SP.

 

- Krr is harder to kickstart because of it's higher kickstart rod

 

- krr share both fuel and temp gauge, separated by a button which is a stupid design

 

- krr fairings are easier to take out (important if you DIY often)

 

Will post more once I can remember them. Personally, I try not to be biased when posting this. But as you can see from my sig, I used to ride a kr. Never really fancied SP. Back then, I would advice people to go for krr.. it's 2010 now. My advice today ... is to get whichever bike that is in better condition. You buy a kr or a sp in **** condition, your pocket will burnnnn.. Good luck!

Couldn't have answered it better myself. But if it was up to me, I wouldn't choose either bikes. Get a bike that doesn't hurt so much on the insurance. The money spent there can be used for the repairs/checks you might want to do when you get the bike.
