This is due to the size of the 1600cc V-Twin engine but in reality, it isn't as loud as the Harleys.

oh dear, i guess you mean its just a big fat 'meow' rather than 'roar', right  o_O :help:

Well, it had a very distinct sound as compare to Harley even though not as loud but the sound is unique in its own way.

You mean my description on the exhuast note of the 1700cc Yamaha MT-01?

The bike is like 2 days old when I heard it. Overall its no louder than say a Phantom, but its exhaust note is much deeper, so it resonates around the entire estate. Incredible sound~!

Heard the MT-01 up close at Hong Leong's workshop and also at Excel cycle. The stock pipes are very effective in toning down the noise made by the huge V-twin. As such it merely sounds as loud as a phantom TA200. It is not loud at all even when revved.

I bet the sound is waiting to be unleashed by the Akrapovic pipe upgrade that is available.

Here are some pics of the Akras for MT-01 during temperature testing..

anywae, ive been fooled once many times wen i heard loud revving bass sound of the engine of sum bikes i tot MIGHT be a harley or those big custom choppers(sorry last tym im alil ignorant of these things so i reli did not know how to distinguish), BUT..it turned out to b kapcai type of bike..no offence kapcai riders thou..

i mean if they cn mod their bike sound, i dn c why our humble cruisers cant...apart from changing the pipes, r there any other ways?::thumb:

First and foremost, I must remind you that it is illegal to have a modified or “tong’ as some would use loud exhaust tone pipe that doesn’t compliance with the regulation on vehicular noise-emission standards.

Quoting SAF famous quote “Do anything you want, just don’t get caught”.

im quite aware of the regulation..bt issit an issue of d level of sound in respect to d bike's brand as in must nt b an exaggerated difference wit the original sound?..

bcoz if its juz an issue of noise level, gosh harleys must hold d record number of failures during inspection..heheh

Indeed you are dead right!

All Harley Davidson’s stock exhaust pipe in reality isn’t much louder than a class 2 metric cruiser. Our local inspection centre varies differently in respect to noise-emission standards. Some are stricter than the others while others understood “loud pipe save life” interpretation and turn a blind eye for the enthusiast. Until the day the local authority come down real hard on this pipe sound, it is just too depressing to even think about it.

My take on this? Prepare to pay the price if you are going to take the risk and don’t come weeping when you are fined. Believe me; it got nothing to do with the brand of motorcycle you are riding.

In fact, some members of the public wrote in to ST forum sometime back in 2006 on their concern and NEA being the regulatory for noise-emission standards has commented they will work closely with LTA along with ROV on this noise level issue.

yeah its good that some ppl vocalized their concern on behalf of us riders.

anw i heard that d bike will lose its power if d pipe is modified to allow d sound to amplify, bt i dont reli understand why? if its true then its bad news coz my bike is alredi abit under-powered as u know, n i presume, tht u used to ride a daystar..(i look at ur photos tht appeared in ur posts)..

now tht i mention power, is there aniwae to boost it? within d boundaries of d regulation? huhur..

ps: sorry if my qns sound stupid, bt im actually still on the learning venture n i reckon tis s d ryt place to gain lots of knowledge..heh

No worries maeztra

Everyone is here to learn and that includes me too!

In regards to the losing power, when you gain something, you lose something. How irony isn’t it? By reducing the backpressure in the exhaust system, most engines would promptly lose around 5 to 10% of the power the engine produced.

By properly re-jetting the carburetor and adding a free flowing air filter, the maximum horsepower produced will slightly improve over the stock engine. However, there is a difference between usable power and maximum horsepower. Both engine configurations could have similar maximum horsepower but the rising of the horsepower torque would be slower than your stock condition.

Hmm..to boast the performance of your stock condition motorbike, you could try the following.

- Purchase performance exhaust pipe and send it to LTA for approval (It may or may not be approve depending on the emission value). This is subject to availability for your motorbike model.

- Sprockets only if your motorbike is using these. Play around with the front and rear sprocket to achieve better pick-up or higher top end based on your motorbike’s wet weight and engine capacity.

- High flow air filter only if you are using performance pipe.

- Windshield. This will strongly cause a cut with your motorbike performance.

hey ya thankx fo d infos..bt a few things i need to clarify wit ur last post

"Sprockets only if your motorbike is using these"..ure refering to wad?

and regarding d windshield, wen u say cut, u meen decrease ryt?

aniwae, since u owned a daystar b4, wad hv u done to mod physical or engineering wise?...maybe u cn provide me sum ideas as i dn reli noe wad to do to my bike apart from steamin in d wind whyl cruisin! hahaha

Sprocket is the gear of the wheel that your drive chain meshes with.

Yes. I meant the windshield would decrease your speed, pulling power and handling of your motorcycle when travel beyond its recommended speed.

Hmm..are you riding a Daystar too? Well, I did lots of enhancement on mine that is road worthy for long trip up north.

Performance enhancements

- Modified exhaust pipes

- High flow air filter

- High performance clutch springs

- High performance spark plug cable

- High performance spark plug

- Smaller rear sprocket (Higher top speed and lower Rpm for less vibration)

Accessories

- Windshield

- Saddlebag

- Backrest with luggage rack

- Spot lamp

- Fender guard

- Crash bar

- Handlebar riser

- Wide handlebar

Then call me uncle. I also wanna get a windshield. LOL! It helps with wind fatigue la. And if you managed to push your bike to the speed you want, it helps not making your helmet fly. Like mine. grr...Everytime wanna go 130-140 my helmet wanna fly off already. So now I'm just Mr. 120. :p

nights, u reli did alot of enhancements aye..huhur..anw, for better pick up n higher end speed, smaller sprocket ar? coz wen i askd random ppl, sum mentioned bigger sprocket sia..alil confused nw heh:confused: ..anw, wher to get a long sissybar that is cheap? i dn reli mind bout quality..again thnx fo d infos..
