Was surfing web and came accross this scoot.

http://www.honda.co.jp/PCX/

According to web info. This was unveilled in tokyo motor show 2009.

It was decided to be mass produce.

Interesting enough. It was made in Thailand. Thailand price is $3K and Japan price is $4.5K

Using my Excel sheet. Assuming the worst. Just take their selling price and add our additional stuff like GST and etc. Thai price OTR without insurance is 5K.

Japan prices is 6400 otr without insurance. Both include 6 months road tax, IU and other misc fees.

The technology is pretty amazing.

It is using PGM-FI. needless to say

"auto idle stop" when this feature is on. The bike will automatically switch off the engine when idle for more than 3 sec. The moment u twist ur throttle, The system will auto start the engine (system do everything.) The moving transition have a very minor delay. Closing to 1/2 sec max.

another interesting feature will be the starter coil. ACG.

Instead of the traditional separate starter motor and stator coil.

The ACG stator coil is not just a stator coil, it's also a starter motor at the same time. Not sure what kind of advantage we will be seeing. But website claims it's more efficient, cut down on weight and is more quiet due to the brushless design.

Engine is was water cooled 125cc sohc. Power is 11ps at 8500rpm. torque is at 12nm at 6000rpm. Weight is 130KG. Nothing to shout about. power is similar to a Gmax 150, Vespa LX150.

FX is pretty good I would say. according to website. It's 53km/L at speed of 60km/h constant. Not very applicable here. But from experience and past facts. Minus 10Km away from the figue. We will like to get 40km/L

Fuel tank is 6.5L. Reserve at 1.5L. All these will means that the range of this bike will be aprox 200km.

Well. IF only Boon siew were to bring this in. 150cc (likely to be 14ps). OTR at 6400. I think alot of people who like scoot will be intersted. AT least Scooter riders will have 1 more scoot to choose from when buying bike.

I love the new low slung kind of bike...

The other Honda Faze on ibike also look cool.

heh.. I would pass this bike on. Let others try it instead. This kind of new technology usually need some tweaking here and there to finally work well. An engine that kills itself after idling for 3 seconds? Does that means it's gonna kill itself 10-15 times on our traffic infested roads?

Killing itself is ok but to start so many times per trip I wonder what will happened to battery? Especially in SG context where there are many stop and start traffic....

Lolz. U can actually switch off the function.

Think I'm crazy but I think I kinda visualise the usage.

Morning. idling stop off. Start engine, smoke 1 stick while waiting for warm up. after that ride off.

Everything normal from carpark to small road.

Then reach traffic jam. Bike start to get heat up. Also can see that the traffic jam not moving. Activate idling stop. Bike stop engine when idle more than 3 sec. Help to cool down abit and save fuel.

If traffic is moving but alot of start stop. Deactivate idling stop.

When traffic moving as per normal U know that there's a long stretch of smooth road, but got a few long waiting traffic lights, activate idling stop.

Anyway. This bike is design for the world market. It's intented to export to SAsean counties Europe and america. Interesting enough, america model do not have idling stop function.

The logic behind is to save fuel, lower emission and reduce wear.

I guess we still have some misunderstanding about that idle stop function. For a "traditional" rider mind like many of us had for now, kind of hard to accept it... kill engine while idling for more than 3 sec and start it again when moving off :) guess many would find it troublesome.

would be able to serve well as a transport in a city, I wonder how it fair against Yammie MIO...

Love the PX125 in white... kind of curious of the price tag

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine

Did abit of read up and research.

The ACG stator coil, which is also the starter, will start up the bike pretty fast.

It's almost zero lag and super quiet. U can actually do a check on youtube.

And with the mode on, U need not do anything. Just twist the throttle and the bike will spring into life.

Hmmmm in that case I'll give a two thumbs up... should maximise fuel efficiency... I like the part where you just twist the throttle and go. :cheeky:

twist the throttle and engine will spring to life? that sounds great but what about security? cant help it but imagine if the circuit is faulty and anybody could just go to your bike, twist the throttle and ride off, and u happen not to handlelock it.

I did email boon siew. their reply is they are accessing the local market.

IF nothing went wrong. It will be in at 3rd quarter.

Something wrong will means, that they find that it's not economical to bring in additional models. especially if market demand is shifting to other bike types.

In summary. If autoscoot is still popular, they will bring in. I'm guessing they are doing research. Base on age group and the number of autoscoot registered for the last 3 years.

Alamak. No lah. If like that I also dowan.

The start up is like normal bikes. Insert key, turn to on, then u can start the bike. Standard like other bikes, can handle lock. According to the website in japan and thailand. It also comes with factory installed alarm system. Like car like that.

How idle stop work is. When the idle stop is switch on (yes, u can turn off the feature.) When at traffic light. When u stop more than 3 sec, The bike engine will auto off( u don't need to turn off ignition manually). When light turn green, U turn the throttle, the engine will just spring to life(u no need to press start engine). There's no lag in between. U just turn throttle and the bike will just move off as if the bike is still idling (no diff from normal auto bike).

The starting sequence is instantanous, zero lag. This is due to the ACG starter design.

ACG start in this case is also the stator coil, which generates electricity when the bike is running. In summary, U don't see a starter motor.

The starter is the coil.

Diff between ACG and traditional starter.

Traditional starter:

Press -> eee....eeeeekkk. eeeeeekk -> vroooom

ACG starter:

Press -> Vrrrrrrooooooom

You basically don't even hear the eeeeeek sound.

Seeing the bike kills the engine after 3 secs of idling, then how does it handle the heat in our weather? If the engine dies, I assumed the cooling system dies as well? If so, that is not going to be good for it..

Well, 125cc, maybe it will not generate too much heat in the first place?

Also highest octane fuel in thailand, I was told it's 92. Not sure if it's the same now.

A octane 92 fuel engine usually runs at a lower compression. usually 9.5 range. It will generate lesser heat when compare to higher compression engines. Eg. runner at 11.5.

And need less to say, once engine stops, it will stop generates heat.

What will happens. I think no one in sg will know cos it's not here yet.

Maybe engine will not auto idle stop if the engine is too hot to facilitate cooling?

I think it's not so bad, as we can still turn off the auto stop idling system.

Or maybe SG will follow USA? USA models are not equipe with Auto Idle stop.

Yes, displacement like 125cc the temperature generated are much bearable. But at times temperature rise might due to pro-long idling, riding, weather etc.

Since the "auto stop idling" function can be bypass, why not get one with it? :cheeky:

Has it reach our shores?

Well, I think it's not here yet.

Yet to see them on roads or any of the bike shop advertising it.

I was surfing some thailand base forums. And discover some not so nice thing about the PCX.

In theory, pure figure. It got a very healthy HP and torque for a 125.

But it's heavily restricted. 2 types of restriction.

Variator roller ram shape. If you ride autoscoot and understand the workings. U will know what it means.

Apparently, the roller ram shape is design in such a way that it prevent the rollers from travelling all the way. This will prevent the variator from opening fully. Thus the max 110 top speed.

What the expats in Thailand did was take the stock variator and grind away the "hill"that prevent the roller from travelling fully. And final step, rebalance the variator.

Hope fully Malossi will produce a unrestricted variator in time to come. Or honda comes out a non restricted variator for export market.

The PGM-FI ecu is also restricted. Thailand expats did a analysis on the ecu and found that honda put not only 1 but 2 restrictions at 2 locations.

The 2 restrictions is found at the low end power band and the top end power band. Thus not allowing to have good exploding accelerations. The top end restriiction will prevent the bike from going above 110.

ECU has been cracked by some of the expats working there via standard ecu piggy bag devices. Power commander like products , But I'm not sure what the brand or product name is.

Again, Hopeully there's a non restricted ecu for export market.

CBR1000 of the olden days, 2004 I think Already. have similar way of doing things. JDM CBR1000 is restricted Via the air filter, airbox and snorkles. To unrestricted that. Just replace the parts with the europe models.

My personal opinion. The bike is not really that handicap as there's still solution to work around the restrictions. Basically. The bike power is supposed to be like 150cc scoot base on specs. but becomes a traditional 125 performance due to the restrictions.
