BB got any shortcuts quick access? I also want to have stock updates at a click of a button. Intending to sign up starhub BB plans, so if internet usage roughly half hour daily, the minimum 3G plan enough? No downloads, just surfing only, and reading emails of cos.

I'm running on blackberry enterprise so data is unfortunately more expensive.

But for those who are on the road overseas most of the time you should try the SingTel plan is that has this roaming service in quite a number of countries where your data usage is capped at about SGD72 per month unlimited (in those countries). compare this against > $20/Mb when you roam in Indonesia or Thailand or Australia etc.

Edited - yup - they have it - Starhub (fixed amt cap on a per day basis) and M1 has this (X Mb at Y$ per month). M1 has the most number of partners so far.

make your choice - save money

Guys,

Now that the iFone Four is announced, BlackBerry has to tighten their belts a little.

A little rant from a solid BlackBerry supporter: What keeps me from converting to that phone is that that phone is too much on the entertainment and self-productivity side.

BlackBerry keeps me connected to my emails, FaceBook alerts, and most recently, my Tumblr too, and keeps me organized with Calendar, Tasks, Notes, and Address Book. I don't need a fancy phone with fancy-shmancy features that get in the way of what I wanna do.

And the (proprietary) requirement to connect to iTunes just to synchronize your MP3, Calendar, Tasks, and Notes??

You gotta be joking if you'd call the iFone a product that organizes your life.

Side note: I spent half an hour dragging an MP4 video into iTunes to get it to frigging synchronize with a test iFone. It just stood there doing nothing, refusing to accept it. That fone disgraced me right there and then despite its killer looks.

Sound quality: Stinks, just like the entire iPod range. Why must I buy expensive headsets to up the quality of my music? Moreover, the equalizer is a joke. Some music screetches to some equalizer presets when you use it, even with mid range Sony in-ear headphones.

No offence to iFone users - for the naysayers, you can go jailbreak your toy as much as you like to get it to work, but it'll still be a (restrictive) iFone.

Over and outzzz...

I 've tried the Iphone before, not interested in the music biz, but its really a step fwd in terms of ease of surfing the net and switching between apps. Nobody now can beat Iphone in terms of ease of use. Where as for surfing speed, its not the phone, its the network, theres no difference to me between iphone or BB speed.

BB's forte is still its push mail features for pple who always have to check emails, other than that, i find the iphone really attractive as a personal netbook on-the-go. Iphone 4 has one feature that really move me, thats 5mp camera and video calls. This and its wide screen, its a really worthy phone for stocks charts and emailing now. Now i am contemplating which is more important, emails or web-surfing??? Haiz, proprietory this proprietory that, thats no dream machine for the consumer.

Sounds good from a consumer with choice.

For me, I feel like I'm more of a technology power user. Meaning to say, if products are riddled with restrictions this..., unsupported that..., it's something that I would tend to tweak or shy away from.

But it's to each his best. Bro, hope I don't sound all too harmful with my comments, yea? :)

2 days of heavy usage is good enough IMO.

Mine's about that without WiFi and Bluetooth on, and without any other apps left running.

I have heard of other brands that only last 1 day, even if the phone is powered on and left aside.

For those who are toying around with the idea of getting a BlackBerry, wait a wee bit longer.

Research In Motion is upgrading the BlackBerry operating system to the all new BlackBerry OS 6.

[yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plWOkI_Urwo&feature=player_embedded[/yt]

Release date is unknown but soon. Coming to new and existing BlackBerry phones.

They've promised a richer internet browser, wondering if it can go on par with the iPhone...

Yes indeed, you pull me back to BB again with this. Nowadays better be prudent and wait for the consumer feedback before buying. With the iphone fiasco.

anyone know any cover can cover up 9700 camera at the back??

bro,

can you enlighten me if the 9700 camera comes with auto focus?

I am in a dilemma over this and the E72. The nokia E72 certainly has what I am looking for and the price is better. But the blackberry seems more robust when it comes to emails and all these. but then... I am quite a nerd to these.

Nokia definitely has better camera, carl-zeiss some of their models, but for PDA functionality, BB is best, if not iphone. But one thing bad about push mail, is all sorts of junk mail will also push through, when u are overseas, these will add up to your phone charges I was told.

BlackBerry Torch 9800 + OS 6 released in the US

http://img811.imageshack.us/img811/9804/blackberry9800leaklg1.th.jpg http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/3530/liveblackberrytorch9800.th.jpg

The new slider/touchscreen hybrid, dubbed the "Torch", has been unveiled yesterday at one of USA's mobile operator AT&T to a crowded launch party. - CLICK PICTURE TO ENLARGE

Feeling the heat in the arena of smartphone competition, Research In Motion has developed and released their all-new smartphone to the public. The "BlackBerry Torch 9800" its is new name.

This new smartphone is hot on its heels competing with iPhone, Android-based devices like the Droid/Milestone and HTC, and Nokia, and it's clearly seen that this company does not want to be outdone by the rest.

Not only does this smartphone sports a new character in its never-seen-before sliding keyboard function, it now also sports the new BlackBerry OS 6 interface that not only brings over the popular push-email features, it also promises to be like what other smartphones are having.

Images linked from CrackBerry.com

OS 6 means, and as compared to the old interface that BlackBerry handhelds currently have, that users will see these nice new features on the BlackBerry Torch 9800, as well as newer BlackBerry handhelds:

- A fully featured, tabbed web browser (Webkit to be exact. In layman's terms, you'll surf the internet just like how iPhone and Android users are enjoying theirs)

- "Pinch" to zoom in or out.

- A phone-wide search engine. (type in anything, i.e. what's my PIN number; Google for restaurants -- the BlackBerry will find it for you.

- Youtube app + video upload.

- 5 megapixel, autofocusing camera with Scenes modes.

- and more....

It's true that this phone, and the BlackBerry team in general has a lot of learning to do in this smartphone era, but for this smartphone, it looks like it has done its homework

P.S.: Don't have a BlackBerry Torch but wanna try BlackBerry OS 6? This operating system will also soon be available in Q3 for these BlackBerry smartphones:

Storm2 9520

Bold 9700 & 9650

Pearl 9100

Please refer to your mobile provider's website or contact them on when this operating system will be available for download.

bro bro bro. i think i am in the best position to give u advice. haha. i was in the same dilemma as u, between e72 and bb9700. i chose e72 INITIALLY, as it seems to look much nicer, more lively, better camera, and also, the NOKIA tag. cus nokia has always been known to be super user friendly, just like an old household name. prior to this, i actually did several research on e72 and bb9700. i found out that e72 have quite a number of issues. especially the earpiece problem and volume, being the most common. sometimes call ppl cant hear the person at all, sometimes will 'auto-mute' during calls, just to name a few. however, i read somewhere that these problems are random, some experience it and some dont, but somehow u will have one or more of the issues.

i decided e72 as the price is really shiok on my wallet. compared with bb9700, at that time i have to fork out like another $200? i think. so well i got e72 happily on day 1, even went to buy screen protector and casing before even inserting sim card and charging... . . .

and the nightmare begins.

i started to experience call drops, automute, earpiece volume problem, syncing problem, and the one that furstrated me most, was the OVI suite. it was total crap. seriously, i spent like 4 hours in the wee morning to try to get it to work and update, but it just kept getting stuck or some errors would happen. i decided to make do without the ovi suite, but given that i like to keep my softwares updated, i kept searching for a solution online.

i went down to the place i bought my hp from and asked for a replacement and told them the faults i experienced. luckily for me, they went ahead with the replacement even though they had a no exchange policy. BUT, being skeptical, i tested the "replacement set1" i got. and guess what, it had the same automute fault and "mickey mouse" tone for the other party on the line. the CSO acknowledged the fault and brought "replacement set2" to me. i tested again, this time round it still has that "mickey mouse" tone. then came "replacement set3" and finally, all was good. at least for that moment..

i went home with set3 a happy man again. and a few hours later, that "mickey mouse" tone started to come and haunt me. my mum tone suddenly turned "squeeky". i was terrified i tell u. my mum is in 50s for gods' sake. i decided to drop the bomb on nokia. truly disappointed. i decided to sell it away to someone who can stand that "mickey mouse" tone. i know thats not gonna be me. well i sold it off to a guy....

and i bought bb9700 w/o contract.

and half a year into use, no errors at all, with the desktop manager, or syncing, or whatever. no problem.

and i was a happy man ever since.

thats the end of my story. thank you. hahaha.

Bro, I just saw this message. Sorry if I was late, paiseh.

To avoid these kinds of crap mail, what I usually do is this:

What you see is what you get - By default, BlackBerry monitors your Hotmail/Yahoo/Gmail "Inbox" folder for mail only, and pushes new mail from there towards your BlackBerry. BlackBerry does not monitor your "Junk" or "Spam" folder so you should be safe from all sorts of nonsense being pushed to your BB.

If your email provider has poor spam filtering and junk email still merrily comes into your "Inbox", it will get pushed to your BlackBerry.

Either strengthen your spam filter, or screw your mail provider and ask for a refund...ok maybe not to that extreme though :)

- BB can automatically disable data roaming when the BlackBerry detects that it's in another country. This can be set using the "Manage Connections" icon >> Mobile Network Options.

- If it's still not enough, you can set text filters. You need to logon to your carrier's respective BlackBerry website (eg. mine is http://www.m1.blackberry.com). You can set filters that determine whether to push or not to push emails with certain kinds of words or strings of text in the subject or body.

Hope this helps :)

I tried the E71 for about a month. Quite very much the best phone I used so far. Just need to get used to the camera AF function that does not come with a one button execution. It serves all my functions at work easily and the support parts are easy to find. I could've tried more functions but alas the kind bro jB who loaned me this phone was selling it. Then I tried the BB9000. Troublesome, problematic, loads of hassles just to execute one function. The BB is the worst phone I've ever used. I was so frustrated that I almost threw the phone out of the window. I am going for the E72 without anymore questions.
