Will be sending my baby to stamford soon to do a valve clearance + rear shock overhaul and replace tensioner. Going to miss riding her for a few days i guess.

Another improvement you guys can try is replacing the ballbearing. I did it when mine was worn out and my mech installed a special type that makes turning really quick and sharp. Cost me $150 tho but I think it is worth it (original is 60 or so).

Hi, I'm getting my VFR in about 2 weeks but it's gonna be the older model (2000) with gear driven cams.

May I know where is Stamford? Seems that VFR owner frequent there. Any other bike shops that has good VFR knowledge?

Are the bearings ceramic bearings? Or just stronger bearings?

Any VFR wanna join me for track in June? Just asking. Relac one, cos I just got the bike...

stamford is on the fifth floor of autopoint in AMK industrial park 2. Alex is very knowledable but he likes to take his time and he is not cheap either but to me he is the best mech in sg. He is one of the few that has been trianed at Honda in Japan.

Hey guy,

I was forced to do some hard-stopping today and realise that my front wheel seems to wobble slightly as my bike came to a halt. Does anyone has this exp?

Is it cos of the CBS again? Or could it be due to difference in pressure of my caliper?

I used mainly my front brakes only... jus a slightly tap on the rear brake...

If wobble then not normal. If what you feel is light pulses on the handle bars, then it is the CBS in action.

I changed my coolant once I got the bike... virtually brand new then.

No major problems with temperatures since then, although sometimes it has ventured to 108-109 degC.

Note, if you max up the pre-load and still not able to hit ±30mm sag, but damping is OK, then you would prob have to change the spring rate. (take note panniers & no panniers settings.. they differ)

If the sag is within range, but the rebound is way too soft, its time for a shock!!

Erm... mind if i voice a point?

ABS is the one providing the pulsing effect. It activates when the sensor on the caliper does not pick up pulses from the serrated (holes for the newer VFRs) disc on the left of the front fork.

The CBS is the acronym for Combined Brake System. Pressing either the front or rear brake lever alone will activate the both front n rear brake calipers, which is linked by a mechanical actuator. This is very obvious when you test it with the bike on the main stand.

Kindly kick me if I made a mistake ...

yesh I have changed them before... quite a simple job accept 1 small little screw somewhere on the bottom left of the engine block. That one is quite difficult to access.. Apart from that, the usual coolant plug is located at the water pump area...

maybe u guys can try water wetter

review of it is goooddd

not sure 108 is acceptable temp to hit

mine bikey is 3 mths old and already can hit 107deg :giddy:

but check with other viffers seems to be the norm range

Hhmm... about the temp on the bike, dictating the temp when the bike is stationary or slow moving or before heat dissipation is stablized, is not a good comprehension of the coolant/cooling system. The reason is, it takes time for heat exchange between the coolant, radiator. air, wind etcetc and all these are time dependant. Further-more these are very dependant on surroundings.

Try to read it at equilibrium state. ie:- able constant speed, non varying surrounding conditions (jams, start stop, bike just stop). Like an experiment in school lab. you will never find out the heat capacity of a solution if you do not let the setup stable before taking temp readings

The temp will fluctuate around from 87~101++deg C in normal start stop traffic, or. Its a matter of time before the temp will hit 120deg C.

hope these helps in detemrining ur coolant/cooling system status on your baby :p

Think my ABS kicked in this morning...

going quite fast down shenton way when a taxi pulled into my lane about 50m ahead...

pulled on my brake and can feel (even heear) that 'chi chi chi chi' sensation... all the way to near the taxi's bumper.

think to myself... not bad, finally get to use ABS...hahaha

my fault la... going too fast.

Very smooth... the ABS>

Car is totally different... feel the whole car shaking when ABS kicks in... then again, maybe it's because mine is lau pok car. :cheeky:

Yup, just been riding for 2 years. I am the third owner. Previous owner took very well care of the bike. I bought it through this site. I have tried to continue taking care although I am pretty non tech when it comes to DIY. I leave everything to my mech who is one of the best in the biz.

Maintenance is pretty basic like any other bike. For VFR at oround 70 to 80K you might need to change the ballbearings in your steering column (i dun know how they call that) and the tensioners.

But since you ride a sportbike, normally you don't stinge on wear and tear items. Only the best for my baby so I end up with some hefty bills. I got to service my Ohlins shock soon and do a complete valve clearence + tensioners so thats going to set me back close to 1K I am afraid. But then after that I should have the best running Viffer in singapore :cheeky:

glad u enjoyed my bike bro :thumb:
