The VFR 800 vtec is an excellent sports tourer with 2 side pannier box , for top speed no way as compared with cbr engines and also it takes more fuel can consider a second hand bike . :giddy: :giddy:

BIKE Aug issue has an article about sports tourers... BMW, Ducati, KTM (actually a trailie), VFR and a Triumph (?)... Track and performance wise, VFR behind... but in terms of everyday use and ease of living with, comfort etc... VFR is top 2. Overall, BMW was the winner. But I still love my VFR.

ha ha, dun worry koma. Plenty of abuse for my viffer. Yup, great bike. Very reliable. No issues so far. For all the VTEC riders, you can download the VFR vtec manual from the following site. Takes quite some time tho.

Did any of you guys encounter this issue with the throttle cable suffering bad abrasion due to rubbing action against the ignition (key slot) body when the handle bar is at near the full lock position to the right?

Attached some pictures showing the damage. I do lots of full lock slow speed u-turns to the right. The Honda designers of this marvellous bike should have anticipated this action and allow sufficient clearance for the throttle cable but this was not the case for my 06 vfr800abs, almost brand new.. but the throttle cable is now scratches and rubber hose damaged.. due to a design fault.. ..

The throttle cable was artificially lowered by the means of a cable tie strap to the fork leg. But over time, the tension of the throttle cable will lift the cable tie up to its "natural" resting position. At the resting position, the throttle cable will interfere with the lower edge (quite sharp) of ingition block and cause abrasion and damage to the throttle cable.

On other bikes, there will be a feature, something like a rectangular metal ring that encompasses the cables so as to ensure that the cables only move within a fixed space, thereby preventing unwanted interference. It seems like the vfr doesn't have this feature.

Any idea how to implement a permanent solution? Is this common problem for vfr800?

hhmm i didn't have any marks on the cables for up to 50k mileage except 1. Which is the tied position. Try squirting Maxima chain lube. It works fine fo my R6 now though..

guys, i'm considering a 06 vfr800 (non ABS version) myself in december. just curious, what is the average mileage like? is the vtec still operating like a pause followed by a sudden jolt? uum, is it a pain in the ass to ride around ~6400rpm? since it's a v4, does the rider's seat get heated up real quick like the rvf and do the side radiators do their job? i heard the bike's vtec acts up in cold weather but is that true at all? boon siew is retailing the abs 05 version at $19250 but do bike shops sell it at a slightly cheaper price? sorry for the sudden bombardment of questions but i'm really interested in this sport tourer, hope you folks could lend me a helping hand with your sound advice.

Consumption is about 16 km/l for normal riding.

No jolt when vtec comes on.

Depends on what your riding style, if don't keep going up and down rev range, it's ok. if u do, may find it a bit irritating... to me, no prob.

The seat gets warm, but no big deal... all big bikes like that.

Fan cuts in at 106 degC and out again at 90 plus. Riding on highways, temp drops to between 85-95 degC generally... no overheating prob for me so far.

It's a great bike... no regrets from me.

Boon siew selling the 05 model at $19500? That's a good price. The 06 model is selling for $20500 without insurance. That's $1250 off the 06 model.

Not much difference between the 05 and 06. The vtec point for 06 is lowered to 6800rpm kick in and disengage when going below 6300rpm. The transition from 2 to 4 valve is great acoustic.

for daily rding.. somehow the ABS saved me a few times... can't explain... but since its aqn unexpected e-stop, i can't control the lockup point in the wet. On the track its a pain in the arse coz it always kicks in and it seems bad for the rotors.

vtec is not jerky in the later models. It didn't pose any problems on normal riding even on the wet. But its also a pain in the tracks as its power band is somewhere at VTEC till near 9k rpm. Its hard to maintain in the range as it is pretty small and lying ard VTEC cut in point is pretty scary in a deep lean.. the last thing u want is unsettleness.

the seat does not heat up at all in my case. Neither dos the area where your thighs touch. The heated twin spar frame is below the thighs and i dunt feel the heat either from the radiator. Put ur hands somwhere out of the radiator and you will realise is working fine and ejecting heat away from your thighs,

its a great bike.. i still love it and i miss it. Mainly for the comfort, touring capabilites/consumption, and luggauge space. Handling wise its good but not great as compared to a pure sports bike. I just find the handling not quick enough, and the weight actually scales you down on the tracks especially on deep lean corners and chicanes.

Hope these helps.

great thanks man! when the vtec kicks in around 6800rpm, what is the speed on the last gear? i hope to cruise on our eways around 110km/hr and not be running on 4 valves. is that possible?

With a normal riding style you will not enter the vtec range easily. In 6th gear at 6500rpm you will cruise at around 160km/h.
