What bike? Budget < $1500

Hi guys,

 

What 2nd hand bikes are available in the market now for 2nd hand bikes that are below $1500, my budget is kinda low.

 

I know I could get a phantom, KRR, SP or a kup kia. What are my other choices?

Do consider going even cheaper; yes you could get a Phantom for $1000+ but the condition? Expect to see lots of cosmetic damage; you pretty much only get a durable engine, frame, and a pair of tyres. Then again, the prospect of a good torquey engine appears only if the previous owner was kind enough to send the thing for overhaul.

 

Whereas if you were to consider a Yamaha (RXZ, YBR) or old Suzuki (GN125) you potentially have more bang for the buck because the cheaper the bike the more you can spend on cosmetics and upgrades. I'm not joking that I saw a GN125, brand new, for just over $1000 at a very old bike shop a couple years back. You just gotta know where to look.

 

Cubs are hairy because the newer, more powerful models can fetch quite a big price (might as well get Phantom for big indestructible hunks of metal, not little plastic bike), and older ones like Y125Z erm, I sort of bent everything on mine after 6 years of full-throttle riding.

 

Same story for used 2B sportsbikes - they'd sure gotten abused before.

 

If you have an existing bike to trade in, sometimes you can get a great deal at Bukit Merah. I was offered to trade in my Y125Z, top up $500 to get an older generation Pulsar once. A great deal due to the ultra long range capability of the Pulsar, but I consider that too experimental for my tastes.

 

Finally you have a not so legal option - used modified Gilera Runner - there were some on sale on the forums for $600 but inspection may be a problem, and so is maintenence. You might inherit a lot of worn parts that were supposed to be serviced every x years or so, but didn't, and you get to pay through the nose to get it back in working order.

However, I don't fancy naked bikes or cubs leh. I prefer actually a tourer, but 2b very few tourers and is very expensive, like Honda Varandero.

 

I prefer sport bikes or cruiser/chopper style. But under $1500 I would be able to find like a phantom, NSR or KRR right? These are the few i know. Are there anymore

i quite big size leh. ride some skinny big very ugly leh. hahah, what you all suggest. i prefer those abit bulky de. like phantom, daystar, SP all those....
