Need some ideas of how to transport my bike up to my HDB flat for some cleaning/refurbishing work that's going to take an extended time, using the lift. Anyone done it before? It's a class 2 bike so it's quite long. One idea is to use a ramp so bike's front will go up the ramp to shorten the effective space it will take on the floor.

interesting... passenger lift quite cramp and the weight of the bike does pose some maneuverability issue.

Can I ask which storey u stay in? Cause you can opt to use the lift and ramp.

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine

1. Piece by piece? Take the bike apart and bring it up piece by piece.

2. Get 3 or more to help you carry the bike up the stairs?

ROFL. if he stay 15th storey, most probably all his friends would be dead. and bike would be mangled from all the ooppsie incidents.

would be easier to change to knobby tires and ride it up the stairs! :thumb:

Have seen this before (Honda Steed)

Day 1 - bike parked in carpark.

Day 2 - seat and accessories missing

Day 3 - wheels gone

Day 4 - engine gone, only frame and number plates sitting on ground

Day 5 - Totally disappeared!

Few weeks later - bike magically reappears.

Hi, I stay on a very high floor. The weight is a problem for maneuverability but luckily does not exceed the lift's weight limit.

Another idea I had is to find some kind of jack that can jack the front end high enough to reduce the effective length of the bike, and then roll the bike on the ramp + rear wheel into the lift.

remove the rear end.. (swingarm, wheel, subframe,)

roll using the front wheel.

This is one option. Actually my friend suggested the same thing. However, I really don't want to have to remove the swingarm if I can help it, it'll be a real pain.

i remember when go watch motogp in sepang..

the 250cc bikes, the mechanic just press the front brake, then lift the rear using his other hand until its tilted around 45 degree and move it around.

damn gp250s.. weight around 100kg, top speed over 270km/h.

Interesting challenge.

It might help if you let us know what bike you intend to move up?

Here's an idea:

1. The general idea is to treat your bike like a huge rectangular box. So it has to be rigid. I suggest finding a way of locking the handlebars straight so that they absolutely do not move. Cannot stress this enough.

2. Get a trolley like the one in the picture. Also get a solid wooden board. I think an old door might work.

3. Lay the trolley down on the floor with the wooden board against its back. You might even want to fabricate 2 wheel locks to clamp the bike to the board. The idea is to hold the bike firmly in place. Sort of like how when you send your bike for inspection, when they test the brakes, there is a device that clamps the wheels into place so it doesn't move. Same principle.

4. Push the bike onto it, heaviest part is where the wheels are.

5. Strap the bike with board onto the trolly. Make sure it cannot move.

5. Lock the trolley's wheels into place. Either have have wheel chocks or have friends who can stop them from moving.

6. Lift the entire bike up. Don't forget to bend your knees! It will now be vertical. You should now be able to wheel it around.

Whether this works or not depends on the size of the lift and how well you construct this set up.

Good luck! Keep us posted!

Wats the use of cleaning/refurbishing when you dun't want to remove the parts off the bike? might as well leave it under the block and wash it.

I did a full refurbishing of my bike in my balcony. I removed everything at the carpark and carried happily carried up my block slowly.

When fixing back, just do the opposite, carry down the block. I use a canvas to cover the uncomplete bike.
