any idea whats the price of this beauty?

I bought mine at $850 at Jurong East MRT Popular store.

Not cheap.

You pay more for Japanese attention to detail (touchscreen, tablet convertible and internal DVD drive). Not sure if it's even on standard architecture (as in Intel compatible processor etc).

And for the price, may as well look at a proper standard issue C2D laptop.

Well I'm offering with reference to TS's main requirement & mainly my basic usage. I took up SR8KPO6S in particular bcos of the DVD drive which I do have to burn some stuffs for my assignments. I did not buy a notebook initially as after much consideration it will takes up space in my bag as I'm always riding around with my other gears. I'm provided with a compuer in office & I do have a desktop computer at home, my netbook is plainly for school & my outdoor works like transfering of photos when my SD card is full, quick photo editing etc... So far I've got no other problems with my netbook (other than the above mention regarding it's screen & keyboard). Regarding it's Intel compability etc; to be fair I'm not really savvy with all this specifications so I got no say in this.

I can show you to shops that sell netbooks for as low as $3xx/=

compared to netbooks of 'my time' it's like half price for the same computing power.

a pm would be good or better, if you could kindly share to us the location and such. currently in need of one

Truth be told when I was in the mood for netbooks the Kohjinsha was tempting. It's one of the first tablet convertibles on the market, way ahead of its time. How do they ever fit the DVD drive in the thing!?

As for shops - I didn't want to spoil the suspense of the thread but I have had good luck sourcing ultra-cheap netbooks from LG and E-Machines at Toa Payoh Central (under Hog's Breath Cafe/opposite Doctors Inc) and surprise!!! Carrefour Plaza Sing. If I see that $200+ LG netbook again I will buy it immediately.

But no I want that full chrome Toshiba for $499!

But really I'd like netbooks to be priced under $199. That's how much they're worth to me considering how hard they are to use. It's like you need to change all your attitudes towards computers and really gently sayang all the output from the puny computer and it is fun and worth it.

In the end nah, Nokia E63 and data plan enough for facebook and spamming peoples' email.

I think whatever it is; money is still the point here. No doubt a $800 or $200 netbook may not perform as well as a high end $4000 notebook but we get what we pay for. I think scouting around for the best deals that is closest to our budget & our primary usage requires some patience. But if u ask me I rather be doing my work on a desktop instead, err ideally with cold strawberry milkshake & smoking my cigarettes at the same time! (hopefully my boss won't read this!).

If you go to Sim Lim, shops on the higher floor that sell China- or India-made or cheap Asian computer accessories (ie the likes of laptop coolers, USB fans, cables, trinkets) also sell cheap speakers.

I got a pair of small cube speakers for $20. Meets my needs and can be comparable to the real ones out there.

although i wouldn't really recommend cash converters if your planning to get high end portable electronics from a reputable company, most if not all of the time, the prices are based prior to the condition and the functionality, and not about the current retail value of the goods, so be forewarned.. also, im glad that they are phasing out the atom processor, i don't know about you but even running on windows xp, it took ages to load, well its good that there making improvements to technology, packs a punch yet maintaining its compact form factor and ergonomics, in any case, technology will keep on evolving to further better the lives of the masses even if you were to walk with it, get left behind by it, or be ahead of it. just my 2cents worth.. sorry if its not concise=)

in the end, i bought a cheap speaker (usb, no bass) for 10 bucks at challenger. was quite suprised as the last time i bought a speaker back in 03 (creative brand w/bass) cost me close to a hundred bucks.

i just saw an amd quad-core lappie. with 650g hdd 4g ram you think its worth the 1.2k? brand is acer tho..

Depends on what you plan to do with the laptop.

For example, TS stated that he will be doing schoolwork and some presentations on his lappie; other people may have different reasons like gaming/ photo editing etc.

You can lower your expectations (ie price) if you don't usually do much ie occasional web surfing etc.

I am still searching for my cheap, portable, lightweight and long battery life laptop. I like my laptops like my bikes. Cheap and have superior fuel efficiency. Haha.

But really still searching.

Try to get secondhand ASUS netbook and then get a 15,000mAh super battery from Ebay (Hong Kong battery supplier). This will give you like, 15 hour battery life :D

By comparison stock battery of a Eee PC 1000H is a 5400mAh 6 cell. 3 cell batteries usually have like, 2-3 hours max life and a rating of 2400-3500.

Just do not get those netbooks with internal LI-PO (lithium polymer) batteries as they are non replaceable = short product lifespan. LI-PO degrades under normal usage quite fast.

Oh? I've never heard of this. I used to be really into the PC world. Overclocking, watercooling whatever, you name it. Haha. Now technologies move so fast that alot of people wonder how the hell i can keep my AMD Athlon XP2000+ running.

Regarding the batteries, how do i get these LONG LIFE BATTERIES which you speak of?

EDIT: How about THIS?

Can choose 6 or 9 cell Lithium Ion battery.
