It cost USD$150. Also can change colour at another USD$15 extra. At gixxer forum, there is a MO for only USD$100, but need at least 15 order. But then only for US lah.

MT dyno machine read higher bhp, so you need to minius off around 10-15 bhp.

i think that pciii has a little manufacture defect, this is my e-mail replies with them for the past few days. the quotes are from me.

Hi, I recently bought the power commander iii usb and it works great, but I have a problem while starting up the bike. It is no longer as it used to be, able to start smoothly. I would have to press an average of 3 times before the bike would be able to start, and the first and second attempt would sound like it was starting, but somehow failed as though it lacked of fuel and I’m sure that I have enough petrol to start my engine.

I’m riding a stock Yamaha 05 R1 European model with k&n air filter with catalysis converter gutted out and the mapping I used was M411-501.djm provided from http://www.powercommander.com website as it’s the closest combination I could find for my bike.

Could you please advise on how to solve my ignition problem?

Thanks!

Unfortunately we are not sure what could be causing this issue as we have not heard of this condition before. The Power Commander is designed so that it can not make any fuel changes for the first 20 revolutions after the engine starts turning over. Therefore no matter what values were in the map the bike should start as it did stock. Is this problem consistent? Does it happen when the engine is both cold and hot? If you were to disconnect the PCIII does the problem go away? Let us know so we can diagnose this problem for you. Thanks.

Hi Dustin!

I did a bit of trial and error and I noticed a few things about the problem and when it appears.

- When I start my bike the first time in the day or after about 1 hour (engine is still warm), there isn’t any problem with the ignition.

- The problem is consistent. For example, I managed to start my bike after a few tries (when the ignition problem is around), I switch off my engine, and try to start again, the same ignition problem would occur.

- My mechanic initially thought that it was my idling was too low, but even after adjusting it, the problem is still there.

- After removing the PCIII, the problem would go away immediately.

- I notice that the PCIII itself would turn warm after awhile, is it a normal sign?

My mechanic and I believe the fault lies with the PCIII itself as my ignition problem goes away immediately after removal.

These are the things we did to test

- with the PCIII installed, I would have ignition problem

- with the PCIII removed, the problem goes away

- with PCIII removed, switched on and off my engine, letting it run for a few times to test if it was just a coincidence that the problem went away

- problem didn’t occur again after PCIII was removed

If I were to describe how the startup of my bike will “sound”, it would be

Without PCIII

Press of ignition button -> vroom -> engine starts

With PCIII

Press of ignition button -> vroom -> engine dies sounding like there isn’t enough fuel in-take

Or

Press of ignition button -> doesn’t start

The average number of times I would press my ignition to start my bike is 2, and every press last for around 1.5s

I hope that the info given would help.

Thanks!

I would like you to try one other scenario if possible. When the PCIII is connected to the bike you will notice that when you turn the ignition on the light on the PCIII will come on and then go off. I would like you to try starting the bike immediately after you turn on the ignition and while the lights on the PCIII are still on. Let me know if this makes any difference. The other thing you can try is to connect the 9v battery adapter to the PCIII to keep the lights on and then try starting it. This would help us diagnose the problem. Thanks.

Yes. It starts perfectly when there is a 9v battery connected to it.

It looks like it is a PCIII issue. We get our power from the fuel injection circuit which powers on then off after turning on the ignition key. If you start the bike while the fuel pump is cycling you will not have a problem. If you wait to hit the start button after the fuel pump has cycled it takes a second or two for the power from this circuit to power up the chip in the PCIII. Unfortunately we do not have a means around this at this time. I will talk to our engineers and let you know if they tell me anything different. Thanks.
