OK. then my next question is, where in Spore do I get all these stuff that you guys mentioned? Go back to PML?

The Spore BMW emergency number (62923166), I already have.

I also have the BMW KL Workshop mech #. Share with you guys in case you don't have and need it someday: Gary 016-340 2277. The workshop is located at Glenmarie, Shah Alam, Selangor.

Can get most stuff from bike shop. Check out LAB, they have some strange stuffs there sometimes that may be useful. Goo is avail from petrol station. Build your own first aid kit, pack stuff for road rash especially. What I've found as a must have is a small can of spray on dressing. Just spray it over the wound and it protects and also its also waterproof but that stuff STINGS!!! Big time!!!

Cotten or plastic gloves are useful.

The tire iron is a little tricky. Just checked with my bro, he made those himself when he was an apprentice in a machine shop about 20 years ago. But I think we can still get it made, know anyone studying in Poly or ITE?

Bulbs and plugs and fuse should be standard stuff, don't need to go to PML unless the part is exclusive.

Just make a list of the stuffs that you consider will affect the running of your bike and yourself, filter it down to a practical amount and starts with those. But like what they say, the one thing that you decide not to bring is usually the one thing that you'll need...hek hek

And one more thing, if you plan to tour during the wet season, a bottle of WD40 or contact cleaner is a good thing to have. Helps to disperse moisture if any happens to get into your electronics.

Bring a leatherman type tool, or a "China-man" will do just fine. :thumb:

Hi guys, I wonder if you guys has read up on this web: http://www.ultimatejourney.com.

Its a great adventure about a couple on their two BMWs going around the world.

Owning a BMW would be dream to me, let alone touring around the world.

If the two couples can make it around the world, I can't see why anyone wouldn't make it pass the thai border (I got to krabi on super four;P). The thing about owning a great machine and to appreciate it more, is to learn the technical side of the beast. As you read on the site, the couples tear apart their machine just to kill time, thus knowing their bike better. It would not only benefit the owner, but also the machine itself.

:cheer:

I hope to own a beast, to ride past the thai border and beyond

Just my two cents worth :thumb:

Man...i had the most unpleasant experience (so far) last night with Bertha. Went to Plaza Singapura for the 1st time with it. Going up the car park, no problem, no need to pay, can go thru the gap. Looking for a parking space, no problem. Went for dinner, buuurpp. Went shopping for toiletries, groceris, see see look look, shiok. Went back to the bike to go home, bike still there, no twisted soul jealous of it, no inadequately-trained car drivers accidentally backed into it or grazed it. Put my stuff in the panniers, put on helmet, start the engine, and vrooom i go. Go down level by level until the exit where the ticket scanner is. Oooppss!! BIIG PROBLEM. There're two lanes. I was too fast going into the right lane. Saw there's no gap between the barrier for bikes to go thru. Look around, saw a sign "Motorcycles keep LEFT"! Dammit, only the left lane has the gap. There's a concrete barrier btwn left and right lane. And I'm on a downslope. Stop the engine, get down from the bike, wave at those cars behind me and motion them to go to the left lane since I'm blocking the right one, and then what else, attempt to pull my bike back up lah. It....was.....H..E..A..V..Y.

"See lah. who ask you to buy such a big bike. Serves you right."

"Oh god, why does this has to happen to me?"

"Maaan...those drivers must be laughing their ass off at me."

"Mmmpppffhhh...come on, mooove u big heavy ass...UUUrrrrrggghhhh"

And then out of the corner of my eyes, I noticed a van stopping at the side. The driver came out and walked towards me.

"Need help?"

Ahhh....my saviour...my hero.

He helped me pull Bertha up to the top of the slope, then we pushed it together to the side to let other cars pass. Has a short chat on how I ended up...well...like that.

haha. Then he told me he's a biker too. Oooooh...so he understands, he knows what it's like. I said thank you to him endlessly. Then he got into his van, we waved again at each other, and off he went.

I stood there for a while, shake my head, and laugh at myself, and the situation I got myself into.

While riding back home, I kept thinking abt what other things that can happen and how to deal with it. Like for example, u break down somewhere in MY, what can I do? Who can I contact? Even a simple thing like punctured tyre, I don't think there're many shops in MY catering to high-capacity bike. How am I going to get my tyre replaced? But then I was also thinking, there're so many other bikers who've toured M'sia, thailand, and probably even further up north even. So how do they handle it? How do they prepare for any...eventualities?

Any comments by anybody with any experiences?

Hey dude,

My friend riding a Fazer encountered the EXACT same thing u mentioned.

Plaza Singapura really suck man. Hope the shopping centre management do something abt this. :sian:

Actually, it is not just Plaza Singapura. A lot of carpark in town sucks. Maybe becos bike is not paying a single cents tats why they dun really bother. Sometimes have to tilt the bike to one side just to get across the barricade especially big bikes. So annoying!!! Dun u guys agree!!!

"Mai tu liao"... hahaha

Anyway, just finished work. Going to get the tyre repair kit and some other stuff for my bike now.

Or we set a date lah and see anybody interested?

How abt next thurs? I have something on Mon, Tues and Wed evening so can't.

No lah, not BMW exclusive meeting. We can join the BMW club for that.

This will be something different, open to all as long as you ride or interested enough to join. Right guys?

Have fun!

Guys, there's a couple of meet up that I was told thats goin on right now.

1. Tuesday night, the old TK Tech at Tanjong Katong, around 9pm. Assorted bikes, small 2 strokes to Goldwing.

2. Wednesday night, Coffee shop just beside Meridian Changi, Assorted bikes, Harleys can also be found here too. Especially big crowd if there's a football match on the tele. Both good place to meet old and new bikers on different machines

These are regular stuff, not pre-arranged. Thought of checkin it out one of this day.

My apology Guys, had a little problem with the forum, couldn't submit post, keep getting error message and all of a sudden, 6 of the same post....heh heh....delete, delete,delete...:cheeky:

Ah....the first ride.....What can I say..... Received the bike at around 1000hrs, got home around 1930hrs.... burn up 2 tanks of gas.... and got a good tan on the arms too....:thumb:

Lets see, ECP (twice), TPE (twice), PIE, a little SLE, BKE, AYE, 99bends (many times), many small roads here and there.......yep... looks like they're all covered.

The first turn after getting out of PML's compound caught me totally off guard. Tip the bike left and the rate of turn was so fast that I thought I was gonna drop the bike!:faint: Apply a little gas and the bike picks itself up and shoots right out of the turn and zoom, I'm gone!!

Brought it over to the carpark behind KFC and do a little "supermotard" riding just to get a feel and in about 10mins, I was turning with much more confidence that I've received my first trophy, a scrapped right footpeg....... that sure woke me up.... but honest officer, its not my fault, the bike was so stable, begging me to lean more, and more and more..... it made me do it... serious....

At idle, there's a little boxer shake, just a little. The bikes gets a little vibe especially around 2500rpm and smooths out as the engine picks up speed, by 2800rpm, alls well. Mid end torque is most impressive, I found overtaking to be effortless, swifter than my old FJR. You can practically leave it in one gear and ride off the clutch.

I was adviced to keep it around 4000rpm during run in. This would translate to 90km/h at 4th gear and 115km/h at 6th. All suspension was left at factory setting first but a little more preload at the rear should tightened the rear end up, byt I'll leave that to later.

This is my first BMW and the switch gear takes a little getting use too. In the begining, I tend to loose a little throttle everytime I press the signal cancel rocker. After a while, I managed to improve on my technique but I still still find the movement a little stressful on the wrist.

Use the mainstand and try to minimise side stand usage because if someone accidently bump the bike from behind, the side stand WILL flip!!

U-turn is easy, no problem there. I'm around 1.68m, using the low seat, but still on tipy toes but don't fine it a problem.

Now that its still being run in, things are still settling in. The engine is a little noisy, a little ticking can be heard during idle, exhaust note sounded a little restricted..... how to describe it..... like a little stuffy nose...but I was told that it will improve once everything beds in.

Oops, taking too much space already..... will post more later.....

But overall, one word, "Impressive"

Here's a pix of the chick:

I should've stretched my budget a bit and got myself a new RT or GS. Looks so......chio...

I always thought GS is too tall for me, but cyclop is 1.68m and he can handle it! I'm 1.7m. Arrrghh...ok ok, cannot be too greedy. Ride my RT for at least two years first. After that......heh heh heh...........

Hi gsxer, recently there had been many incidents of my frens' bikes being knocked over and here break there break:giddy: Bikes knocked down included GS, ATs, Vstroms n oso Varas. Some are lucky with the crash bars to tong, some were like you, either broke the bracket or the box catch, neither can be repaired. Perhaps you want to contact Chua at M-Technik to see if he has used ones to sell ?
